French Chicken Garlic Bratwurst with Rosti

Originated in Germany, Bratwurst is a famous finger food in Germany. There are chicken, minced garlic and mixed herbs in this grilled bratwurst. Tasty! The rosti is actually slices of potato, and it's awesome when dipped with the sour cream.

AMBIENCE

It's quite crowded and noisy especially during meal hours, and expect a queue up to 20 mins even on a weekday night!

SERVICE

The staffs are quite polite and humble, and will take the initiative to chat and ask for our feedback.

I had the Thai style salmon pasta set at $11.90++. Soup of the day was a concentrated homemademushroom soup which was redolent with the fragrancee of pureed button mushrooms. Very filling as a starter. The server offered a choice of penne, fusili, spaghetti or linguine for the main course. I picked the last. The pan seared salmon was nicely done and the tom yum flavoured tomato sauce amply coated each strand of linguine which makes for a very hearty entree. Iced tea was my choice of beverage to wash everything down.

The aircon here is almost non existent due to the open concept of the restaurant. The buzzer from the neighboring Gong
Cha outlet which is always busy also contributed to the noise level of this restaurant. Service was apathetic and unremarkable. PS outlet still the best in terms of ambience and service.

This was my second time at Ambush, after trying out its pasta the previous time. Had more expectation this time as I ordered their bratwurst, something more meaty this time? hehe. With spaghetti at the side. The bratwurst is good for people the likes of me, which is to say, you love sausages and meat in general, haha. And the combination was both fulfilling and yummy.

Having had a positive dining experience at Ambush once, we decided to try other dishes. The highlight of our meal is really the squid fritters - there were only a few sticks as can be seen from the photo (portion could be larger though, we really liked it), and the squids were some sort baby squids, smaller than the old changkee kind. Was fried till golden crispy and every bite is flavourful. Great side dish to share.

After church, my friend and I were so hungry so we decided to just head to Bishan Junction for lunch. We were thinking of trying something new when we noticed that there was a new restaurant in the mall-- Ambush. I haven't really read any reviews about this restaurant yet, so I had no expectations whatsoever about how their food was like. But I thought, just try it first hand. Lunch time at Ambush wasn't too crowded so we were able to choose the seats we wanted. When we were seated at the table

to choose the seats we wanted. When we were seated at the table, there were these newspaper thingies on it. Turned out that was their menu. I thought that was creative. =D

I had a hard time choosing what I wanted because most of the dishes sounded delicious. But in the end, I decided to try their Zamora Paella-- since it had ham, sausages, and BACON! You know what they say... everything tastes better with bacon.

Since there were only a few people at the restaurant, our order arrived early. I think I only waited for less than 15 minutes. The dish was generously topped with meatballs and all other ingredients. The rice wasn't dry and very tasty due to the finely chopped veggies added to it. It was soo good that I finished the serving big enough for 2 people. Haha!

While my friend and I were dining, we were already thinking of coming back to try other dishes. Next on my list-- the spaghetti with fried chicken on top!

My friend and I both had the lunch set which includes a drink and the soup of the day. The menu was rather interesting as it was designed like a newspaper. (Like an article!) I loved the minestrone soup although the tomato taste was kind of subtle. It has plenty of chunky and soft-till-melt-in mouth ingredients in it. When I asked for all types of sauce, they gave me these! Chilli, tomato, mustard and mayo. 1 word - Generous My friend's main course was the fish and chips. The fries were evenly f

My friend's main course was the fish and chips. The fries were evenly flavoured and tasted like potato chips. The slice of thinly battered fish was crispy on the outside and really tender inside. The serving size was really generous too! As for me, I had 3 different types sausages together with mashed potato. The creamy sauce was rather lacking and it nicely formed a pool on the potato itself. As for the 3 dogs, they had slightly crunchy skin and juicy meat! I kept eating them in alternating sequence to constantly have different taste in my mouth.

It was our son's birthday, so we ordered their Molten Choc Cake. The cake didn't turn out as we'd envisaged. When my son took a scoop, the melted chocolate inside didn't flow out as it was supposed to be. You'll be disappointed if you're a Molten Choc Cake lover.

Other than the cake, this was our 5th visit there & we're loving it!

Ambush is a restaurant at J8 that sells affordable and delicious Western food. (they also have outlets elsewhere in Singapore though im not sure where) I tried their sausages (see IMG1) and their Swedish meatball linguine. Their sausages are just about as good as those you can find in Brotzeit ( i will review it soon). And the serving size was just nice, not too much whipped potato to fill you up and not too much sausages like brotzeit is apt to serve. The swedish meatballs tasted like ikea's ve

The swedish meatballs tasted like ikea's version of the same dish, though unlike Ikea, it serves great linguine too (to be fair, theres a price difference between Ambush and Ikea even if ambush is pretty reasonably priced). Service was prompt the the atmosphere was suitable for a chit chat session - we had a girls gathering there to catch up on each other's life.
