I prefer this to the herbal style bak kut teh. I like it nicely peppery and it tasted even more pepper when eaten hot. The pork ribs were only 4 pieces but quite meaty. I like to dip inside the thick dark sauce with red cut chillies in it. I also like to pour some soup into my rice. I like to eat with you tiao. I will thrown the you tiao in the soup and let it soaked for a while before i dip it into the dark sauce and eat it with rice. Nice and satisfied.

The standard has dropped for this Bak Kut Teh. It used to taste much nicely but the last time when i was there, it tasted very peppery to my liking. Per serving is at $6.00 more expensive that what you get at other places. I think it is not very value for money as the serving is quite small. But other than the soup was too peppery, the pork ribs were quite ok.

This is one of the big name in Bak Kut Teh. I have came across quite a lot of reviews about them. I was there at about 2pm. I waited for the lady in-charge to finish taking the order for a table before placed my order with her. I ordered for the smallest portion of braised pig's trotter and bak kut teh to be taken away.

After done ordering, someone right behind wanted to take away as well but the lady in-charge informed him that they have already closed. I did not realise that they operated from 12 pm to 2 pm then 6 pm to 2.30 am so it must be lucky day for me to be able to place the last order before they closed. I paid a total of $12.00 for both.

The portion seemed a little smaller for both braised pig's trotter and bak kut teh but at a higher price as compared to others out there. The taste of the bak kut teh was a little too peppery to my liking so i left the soup unfinished. The pork ribs were chopped into pretty small pieces and a total of 4 pieces of them in it. The pork ribs were soft and tender to the extent that it pulled away from the bone effortlessly.

The texture of braised pig's trotter got a nice softness. It was so well braised that it did not even have a bit of oiliness. Anyway, this is not the best braised pig's trotter that i have ever tasted.

I doubt i would be back specifically for both items again but i might eat it once more if i happen to be in the vicinity.

It has been ages ever since I patronise this bak kut the store. We have ordered a plate of salted vegetables for $3, two bowls of pork rib soup, one bowl of pig kidney and one prime rib soup whereby the meat is less fattening. The service is good; they are very willing to refill soup for us.The soup is very peppery, has the sweet taste as well and it is hot!

The bakuteh here are not like how other served, it is so peppery and garlicky, u dont feel the herbs at all! why not just call pepper soup? The ingredient arent generous, and expensive. i dont feel the fragrant of the rice either. Overall very cheap bakuteh with less variety.

In the middle of the night craving for bak kut teh and this stall opens through the night! We had 2 bowls of bak kut teh, beancurd skin, you tiao and lime juice. I went to meet my family to shop for lights. But they had their stroll already and was resting at this Founder Bak Kuh Teh Restuarant along Balestier Road, just opposite the Shaw Plaza. We were sitting by the right corner. The amazing thing is there was a small window, and on looking out I was next to a road which looked like an exit from a car park. I really meant, next - like cm's away. Not a secure feeling, as the cars passed by. The rest was great. While waiting for the food, we had a good

We were sitting by the right corner. The amazing thing is there was a small window, and on looking out I was next to a road which looked like an exit from a car park. I really meant, next - like cm's away. Not a secure feeling, as the cars passed by.

The rest was great. While waiting for the food, we had a good time observing the many celebrities taking photo with the owner. The owner didn't smile at all in all the photos - easily 100 of them - pasted on all available space of the wall. It was the celebrities who were trying to smile. It seemed from the photos that they requested for the photos to be taken, and the owner obliged.

The best part was still the food. My mom ordered the upgraded pork ribs. It's wonderful, done rightly, and the soup while peppered, was delightful. We also ordered some vegetables, soya bean curd, and pork belly to go along. Rating : 8.5/10. Why not 10/10? Well, I prefer a more rustic environment to go along this traditional dish, and it also lacks the traditional tea drinking setting and the smell that should come along. But on the whole, there is nothing much to complain about.

After the dinner, while we went out around 8pm, the queue had become longer. Hmm, it was just a weekday. Go early to avoid the queue.

Price wise, it's slightly pricey compared to coffeeshop. I had it some time back (02 Nov 10 may not be the exact date), so my guess is that it's about $8 for the bowl of prime pork rib. But you would need to order a little more to share. So, over $10 per person.

Recommended.

The standard dishes that me and bf will order are 2 bowls of rice, 1 bowl of fried you tiao, a bowl of bak kut teh, a plate of tao-kee, and maybe another bowl of pork liver with cabbage.

The soup is free flow, thus we normally have our bowl refilled at least 3 times whenever we dine here.

The pork rib is tender and goes well with some dark sauce and chili padi! Food are always served pimping hot here. Hence i will recommend you to come here if you are at Balestier! Not to be missed!

This store seems to be the official bah kut teh store for visiting stars! So many have eaten here that all the walls are covered with photos! Their bah kut teh soup is the pepper based type (teochew style). The soup is not too hot and is a little sweet. The ribs are tender and does not have the "porky" smell. Their pork leg is also quite nice.Only two things I do not like:1) Long queue during peak hours, and standing along the road. 2) Rather pricey.Closed Tuesday.
