Hanging around Bukit Merah recently, I visited the Ice Cream Shack with some fellow food blogger friends, Hannah, Hazel and Eileen. Area: Bukit Merah (Redhill) / Tiong BahruCountry: SingaporePrice: $Good For: Groups / Solos / Friends / Family / TakeawayAccessibility: Fastest route: Approx. 11 minutes walk from Redhill MRT Station (EW18)The surroundings were really pretty, as the shop was designed based on the Brighton Beach houses.Really colourful and lovely, it is bound to brighten up your day. Here are the pricings! Quite reasonable~They also have a special 10% discount promotion for secondary school students, available from 2.30pm to 6.30pm on weekdays! You can taste the gelato ice-cream flavours before you decide to buy it. Which was what I did before choosing my 2 flavours to go with my waffles.Earl Grey Lavender MangoChai Lychee RoseIce-cream with Belgium wafflesI like that the belgium waffles were airy and really crispy. I realised how some people do not like it like that though. But to me, it's a light dessert which I can order to pair off my meal (probably after eating at the hawker centre nearby! Some maple syrup is also given on the side, but doesn't do much difference to the taste though. In the process of making the waffles...We paired the waffles with a scoop each of the premium D24 durian flavour and the Lychee Rose. Eat the Lychee Rose before the D24 flavour as it has a really strong durian flavour, which would diminish the taste of the Lychee Rose if you were to eat it after the durian one.I loved both flavours though. They also have other interesting flavours like pistachio, marmite cheese. I liked their salted caramel as well and earl grey lavender! We also had the dark chocolate and mango flavour on a cone.Mango was so-so and the dark chocolate tasted more appealing. But if I could choose again, I would rather go with the pistachio flavour and earl grey lavender, though - more unique!Best bit: The pretty environment and super friendly service. Plus the D24 ice cream. Worse bit: None.Ice Cream ShackLocation: Blk 163 Bukit Merah Central, #02-3605, Singapore 150163Opening Hours: 11.30am - 10pm continue reading

I have never been to Brighton Beach in Melbourne but it has always been on my bucket list since I first saw the beautiful bathing boxes online. I was thrilled when I saw the deco of Ice Cream Shack on instagram looking very much like the bathing boxes in Melbourne. Thus I made a mental note to visit the place as soon as I can spare the time.Last Sat after the Food & Socialikes Connect event, a group of us decided to check out this place. I love how brightly lited and vibrant this place is. In fact, no editing was needed for our group pic. Yay! I love natural lighting! We were quite lucky to meet the young lady boss who went on to tell us about how the ice cream was made from scratch using natural ingredients. And I was right! The deco was inspired by Brighton Beach bathing boxes. There are many interesting ice cream flavours available here. The service was very good too. I am very sure that we tried at least half of what are available before we made our choices. Some of the interesting flavours are like Lychee Rose and Marmite Cheese. The young lady boss also mentioned that they are always getting feedbacks and trying to come out with new flavours. So if you have any crazy flavours in your mind, perhaps you can also suggest to her. We tried the waffles with durian ice cream (off white) and lychee rose (pink) ice cream. The texture of the ice cream is smooth and very close to those of a gelato. I like how intense the durian ice cream flavour is. After finding out from the lady boss, it is actually made using D24 durian! The lychee rose ice cream has a distinct flavour that reminded me of bandung. If you like your waffles to be crispy and airy, the waffles here would appeal to you. The idea of having an ice cream on a cone always appeal to me. Especially with the crazy weather here, I crave for one almost everyday. For the cone one, we choose the mango (yellow) and chocolate (brown) ice creams. While the mango ice cream has an intense mango flavour, the chocolate ice cream is rich and satisfying. But the durian ice cream won our hearts! It is good to know that there is a 10% discount for secondary school students from 2.30pm to 6.30pm and the ice cream is priced at a reasonable price. A premium ice cream flavour is only $0.80 more than the normal ones ($3.80).The ice cream shack is located just beside the hawker centre and opposite Butterscotch cafe. I say that the recent weather is simply perfect for an ice cream or two, don't you think? So if you are around the vicinity, do give it a try. continue reading
