I was craving for laksa, so MIL suggested Island Cafe, well-known for their crayfish laksa and Asian fare.Located on level 4 in Tang Orchard, the cafe is a great for taking a break from all the shopping. While the hawker fare at Tangs Market in basement 1 is very yummy, we were simply too tired to wait around for a table. It’s much more comfy to rest your tired legs (and aching body) at the spacious (and less crowded), resort-styled Island Cafe.Emphasis is placed on Asian dishes, such as Hor fun and Kuey Tiao. If you prefer western fare, salads and sandwiches are also available.Refreshing Summer Passion mocktails ($6.50) to rejuvenate exhausted shoppers.A sight to warm any laksa lover’s heart, no?Island Cafe’s signature, crayfish laksa ($20), a rich and spicy coconut gravy with thick rice vermicelli, prawns, quail eggs, fish cafe, cockles and crayfish. Comes piping hot, so be careful as you dig in! I recommend putting the apron provided on to prevent stains on your clothes.Hainanese Pork Chop Rice ($16) was decent too. The breaded pork chop had a crispy exterior, yet most and tender on the inside. Drizzled with Hainanese style tomato sauce.We ended our meal with a complimentary birthday cake. Carrot cake was ok, nothing to shout about.

I attended an event and the host served canapés from Island Café. There were 2 items served which were the Turkey paste with cranberry sauce tart and the hotdog with pineapple stick. The guests were served champagne and cranberry juice. Though there were 2 items food, the food were excellent. The turkey paste and cranberry sauce were thick and could feel the meaty. The hotdog had cheese filling and accompanied with a slice of pineapple would make a perfect blend of the food. The beverage was refreshing. I loved the food.

The last time I was at this cafe was ancient. Came with a few girlfriends today after shopping at Tangs and just wanted to stop here to have a drink to relax. I ordered a lime soda with mint. Very refreshing indeed and the adding of the mint were so fresh and gave the drink a certain boost. Glad that the drink could quenched the thirst and a quiet place to relax after walking around for hours.

After shopping at Tangs, it's gratifying to know that within the mall houses a cafe serving tired and hungry souls.We ordered one of the Island's Specials for that month, Crispy Fish Noodle Soup ($16), which includes dessert (tau suan) and coffee/tea. The chef has considerately separated the fish fillet from the noodle soup to retain the crispiness of the fish. Thick vermicelli is served for this dish, along with a milky broth. However, the soup tasted bland, thus minus points for the dish. But bring on fried onions and spring onions for soup toppings anytime! One plus point for the fish is that it is thinly coated with batter, so I could still taste the smooth texture of the fish.The other main dish we ordered was Hainanese Pork Chop Rice ($14). This is the better dish of the two. Average rice and vegetables, but the dish was glorified by the crispy pork strips. I could eat many of these with the tangy tomato sauce on them! Caesar Salad (with Lemongrass Chicken) ($12): Fresh simple salad dish comprising of hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes and lemongrass chicken on a bed of greens. Refreshing and tasty!For such fare, the prices are set too high but can't blame them as this outlet is more catered to tourists.
