A quaint little Japanese-Western fusion restaurant located at Bugis Junction, and has been around for years (thankfully), well known for its delicious pasta and other dishes, Ma Maison was the choice for us that day as we headed for lunch. The Buddy selected the famous Hamburger Steak Set (SGD$16.50) - juicy, thick patty with sunny side up egg, side vegetables and mashed potato, served with rice or burger. The burger was tender, grilled to perfect with hints of smokiness to its flavor, yet still retaining the lusciousness of beef's natural flavor. Pity the Buddy asked for the egg to be cooked fully, because the steak is best eaten with the egg yolk poked and infusing the steak, adding to the taste.I had the Prawns and Scallops Gratin (SGD$13.80) - baked to a lovely golden color and slathered thickly with cheese. The huge fresh prawns and chewy scallops were delicious and lent credence to the cheesy pasta. The gratin melted in one's mouth literally, scoring points immediately. For dessert, there was a slice of Grape Tart - huge, juicy grapes that were sweet, not sour. They did not taste processed, and are laid out beautifully in red and green tones, atop a crunchy biscuit base. I loved how the grapes popped literally in our mouths before we settled the sweetness with the more solid crusty base. For full review and more photographs, please free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2015/02/lunch-at-ma-maison-japanese-restaurant.html continue reading

A friend bought a simple, pleasant lunch at ma maison @ central today on 9.12.2014.he was taking good care & review of my tooth implant. after that we went for lunch at central below his clinic. he ordered a tonkatsu set & i ordered a beef don set. place was really rustic & pleasant.the set came with simple garden salad. olives were nice. my friends laughed when he asked me to try the soup (came with his tonkatsu set. my beef don came with miso soup) and i said tasted exactly as i expected.what to expect of soup of the day for a S$12.90 set include coffee? i tried a piece of his tonakatsu. it was good. the pasta was ok also. my beef don was ok too. beef was flavourful & sauce was nice taken with a bit of rice. :-) it was a very passable lunch. there was also coffee with the set. ambience was great & food better than average. i would pick this over waraku (restaurant next to it).See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/12/09/pleasant-lunch-ma-maison-on-9dec2014/ continue reading

There was some up to standard restaurants in Bugis did appeal me, one of them was Ma Maison. Frankly speaking, my impression towards it was rather pricey before visiting. But after having a look at the Menu, most of their main dishes were reasonably priced. Service was excellent, attentive manager and friendly staffs.Easy to spot with its wooden exterior, large white words were visible obviously. Considered a Japanese-Italian Cuisines Restaurant, yet the decoration was predominately European. Environment was comfy welcoming, everything was neat and clean.Mouth-watering appearance with a heavenly good smell, the plate was freshly cooked and well-blended in milky cheesy gravy. Truly creamy without additional condiments, noodles remained springy and stir-fried until perfection. Mushrooms, Eggs and Bacons were generously mixed around, slightly soggy but not too greasy. Somehow I quite fancy about the “Check Out” Concept, we were given a key that literally means which table we seated. Showed it to cashier and paid our bill, exactly checking out process at a hotel lobby. continue reading

Hamburger steak: $16.90. There were fried potato and carrots at the side. The potato was moist and soft within while the skin was pan fried. The sauce of the hamburger was not too salty nor sweet and it went well with the hamburger steak. The hamburger steak was slightly juicy too and not oily. Overall it is worth a try, especially when there is 20% off ala carte items on monday (ladies' night)! continue reading

Went for set lunch with BFF at Ma Maison Bugis, we always decide on the set lunch as it is value for money. Usually below S$20 with soup, main course, salad, french baguette and dessert. The soup of the day changes daily, that day it happened to be Tomato soup, the soup is not too sour and goes very well with the fresh, warm, crispy french baguette. The salad is fresh and dressed with thousand island sauce. I love that there are olives in the salad. I choose to have steak and spagetti for the main. The steak is very well done, i ask for medium and it is really medium not like some restaurant that cannot cook steak doness accurately. The steak is cook on the outside and pink in the inside, the brown sauce is delicious and the spagetti is al dante. Marvelous. The dessert for set lunch is ice cream, you can choose either, chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. I choose strawberry, but it was not scoop properly, hence the ugly shape in the photo but still delicious. continue reading
