When Ootoya first opened at Orchard Central, it did so at great fanfare as it was a branch of a restaurant from Japan coming over to set up shop in Singapore. They brought along their own Japanese chefs as well and the food was really great, with long queues going on forever. Wanting to check out the hype, I popped in for an early dinner to beat the queue and was rewarded with a nice seat.

I order an oyakodon and found that while it was not too bad, it didn't feel as good as the ones I had in Japan. After a bit of inquiry, I found out that the original Japanese chefs had left already leaving locals in place, hence the drop in quality. Well the queues still remain but it might take quite some time before the food ever returns to standard.
