When a good friend, Micaela* suggested doing dinner at Rasputin's, to try traditional Russian fare, Charmaine* and I were very eager of course. After all, we had never eaten Russian food before, and it was a great opportunity to do some catching up.We started with the Shuba Salad - which is actually Herring Salad meaning "herring under fur coat" - a coat of onions and beetroot. It is a cold dish (the fish is cooked, not sashimi raw, no worries) and has a strong blend of flavors - the sweetness of the beetroot, saltiness of the fish and spiciness of chopped onions. It is supremably delicious, hints of flavors and freshness of herring that make love to the taste buds literally. We loved it at first bite. Then the must-try soups - piping hot and large portions! We shared a Borsch Soup (beetroot, onions, potato, beef and parsley) and the Ukha Soup (Russian fish broth)The Pelmeni ("ear bread") - Siberian meat dumplings- were served next. I believe it was pork - I'd forgotten to ask, but we ate most kinds of meat anyway. It tasted like a cross between the Chinese handmade dumplings and Japanese Kyoza (dumplings, as well) - believe it or not - with its marinated minced meat stuffed into thin, unleavened dough sheets. We loved it nonetheless. For more detailed information and photos, do visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2013/12/dinner-at-rasputins-russian-restaurant.html continue reading

Rasputin seems like a new place that's yet to find its niche clientele. It's confused as to whom it should please. Such lack of specialization is clearly apparent in the events it holds and the crowd it attracts. Went this Saturday. The only real specialty was the cheap liquor. Music was average. Food was average. Crowd was average. Nothing special just your normal place trying to attract a normal crowd to have some normal fun.Would recommend this place only to big groups who are looking to have fun amongst themselves. For couples or singles, who are looking meet interesting new people or strike romantic connections, other clubs would be recommended. For an average cheap night out, it's fine but you wouldn't end up with anything special here. continue reading

I was walking along clarke quay one afternoon and stumbled across this Russian bar/restaurant. I've been around Russia and was craving some of their food, so i decided to try dinner there. The service was wonderful, the Russian chef even dropped by our table for a chat as it wasn't a particularly crowded night. The food was the real thing! Completely authentic Russian cuisine cooked by Russian chefs! Although the prices aren't cheap, it's really worth it as the portions are massive and the quality is fantastic. I really recommend this place whether you've tried Russian before or not! Plus, at 11 the bar transforms into a club so if you're not done for the night, there's great music, Ukrainian vodka (try it!!) and awesome crowds during weekends continue reading

Went there on Wednesday ! Lights and bar looks decent but service was poor ! I ordered 4 whisky cokes and after 15 minutes I walk up to the bartender, who had forgotten about my order ! Not much crowd so maybe he just had a long day ! Food is decent ! I have never had authentic russian food so I don't know but it was sure tasty ! Nothing really russian here, except the vodka ! All the wait staff are indians !All in all, classic bourgeois with it's cheap plastic, decent music, inexpensive food, and dark atmosphere ! Perfect for teenybops ! Would recommend something more upmarket at Dempsey for people with deeper pockets !Cheers continue reading
