The penang laksa here tasted better than average and it costs $3. There was a tangy, sour taste and it wasn't at all spicy. The fish was very fine and plentiful while the thick bee hoon was smooth. The soup had a heavy taste but it wasn't as good as the ones at Penang. Still worth the try though. continue reading

If you are residing or passing by in the west, perhaps you may want to head down to Yuhua Market and Hawker Centre.Articles pasted over the stalls shown that they have received a number of interviews from the press and even got feature in the local celebrity food hunt, Mediacorp's Channel 8 Program. In promoting healthier lifestyle with through the exercise with Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB), they had their dish indicated with the amount of calories. For Penang Char Kway Teow, it consists of 500 kcal and whole grain noodles are used.Comparing Penang's to Singapore Char Kway Teow, the significant difference is its color - a whiter version whereas Singapore's style of Char Kway Teow was coated with dark soy sauce and comes with cockles and Chinese sausage as part of its main ingredients. The charred taste was not that much but the plate of Penang delicacies is definitely close to an authentic one with pork lard used and the correct moisture in it. Prawns, spring onions and beansprouts also make up part of the ingredients. Given a choice, I will prefer another dish from their stall which is none other than their Penang Laksa. Likewise, whole grain noodles were used here and this dish consist of 290 kcal - another healthier choice for the patrons. It has a heady scent of prawn paste and the refreshing aroma taste from the mint leaves. Together with the soury taste of assam and generous serving of minced fish meat, Im sold. Shredded vegetables were added and although the gravy may looks red hot spicy, the level of spice is little or close to none to me.A wait up to 10 minutes is inevitable during meal hours especially when Simei Penang Laksa Speciaility is one of the popular stalls among others in the Hawker Centre.Overall, Penang Cuisine is not very common in most Hawker Centre and I would say that the standards are pretty good. continue reading

Yuhua Hawker Centre was very crowded in the morning, totally different from the dark dessert look in the evening. There are many long queue stalls, one of them is Simei Penang Laksa Specialty. The queue here was messy. There was no queue, you just go to the stall front and order with the aunty and just wait at the side for your order to be served. The penang laksa ($3) came piping hot and had a heavy savoury aroma of fermented prawn paste. The appearance looked red and spicy but the taste was not spicy at all. The soup had minced fish meat and tasted of sourish assam. There was also many shredded vegetables given in the soup and it tasted refreshing with the sourish soup.Overall, I liked this penang laksa, but the fish given was quite little. continue reading

The FoodI ordered a bowl of Laksa and was very delicious. The gravy has a thick coconut flavour and tasty and the bee hoon goes very well with the gravy hence making it mouth-watering and inside have generous portion of ingredients like bean sprouts, fresh cockles, tau pok and hard boiled egg. The laksa is indeed one of the better ones I have tasted and it will satisfy your craving for laksa lovers! The PriceReasonably priced at $3 per bowlOverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this for all laksa lovers! continue reading

This has been the nicest Penang fried kway teow that i tried in Singapore. I always requested to have extra chilli added. It tasted better this way. The difference between the Penang and the local version of fried kway teow is dark sweet sauce is not used in Penang fried kway teow. The kway teow was fried nicely fishcake, prawns and cockles with a lot of bean sprouts. A generous bit of fried pork lards were added to enhance the flavour. continue reading
