Tried their garlic fried rice $7 (also ordered a $2 cold sake promo). Portion was quite filling for one person. The garlic taste was very fragrant and rice was fluffy and wasn't lumpy and did not stick together too. Eggs were also added and fried together with the rice, making it tastier. If you love garlic fried rice, you'll love this! Best to share if you're ordering this so you can leave some stomach space for their other food items continue reading

As we are in the area visiting the Singapore Night Festival, we decide to drop in the Standing Sushi Bar at Queen Street for a late dinner. As it is past 9pm, there is not many customers in the restaurant. There many empty tables in the restaurant, but the staff squeezes the 2 of us with other customers on the same one row of tables, although there are many rows of empty tables. The single row of tables is quite packed and it is quite difficult for females to put bags except on the floor or behind on the chairs. The staff just simply refuses to let sit at other tables with some lame excuses that they except more customers. Although throughout the whole meal, there is less than 10 customers coming in. The action of doing this, sounds more like a way saving of wait staffs as most customers are at the same row of tables.Rockstar Roll ($16.90++)seared salmon draped over mozzarella and covered with mentaiko sauceAlthough stuffed with cheese, I barely feel the strong flavour of the cheese while eating the sushi. It is quite a well balanced combination.Yaki Soba ($15++)stir-fried noodles with meat and vegetablesIt kind of reminds me of Fried Hong Kong Mee, but tastes sweet with a Worcestershire taste sauce.Seafood Mentai Pasta ($17++)seafood spaghetti with cod fish roe sauceThe pasta is evenly coated with the sauce and tastes quite nice. The meal costs $48.90 after discount with Standard Chartered credit card. Overall the food is not bad. But cannot say the same for the service. Water is not refilled. The way the staffs crowd around the row of tables seem to be making the customers to leave as soon as possible. Quite uncomfortable with so many pairs of eyes looking at you while eating. continue reading

Standing sushi bar, it has 2 outlets. One is at bras basah beside SAM and food for thought. On Mondays and Thursdays, their salmon sashimi is $3 for 5 pieces. It's no wonder there is always a long queue. Even when we reach there at 6.30pm, we still have to wait for 30 - 60mins. Some of the other dishes like maki is quite expensive. The Don is still considered pretty reasonable. The service is ok, though they will ask if you need to order more if not they will pass the bill to you without you asking. This is their way of chasing customers away after they are done so that others can enter. The sashimi is thick and juicy as shown in the photos. It is satisfying though it would be better if served cold. Usually I will get sick of it after 2 plates as more of it without other sushi to go along will be too much to take. The sashimi is fresh and worth it! continue reading

This time round, Edison*, Katherine*, Zachery* decided to head to Standing Sushi Bar for dinner. Inspired by standing sushi bars in Japan, the flagship outlet of Standing Sushi Bar at One Raffles Place was a true standing concept - as in, diners would stand and eat literally. However, the new, bigger, outlet that we visited at 8 Queen Street #01-03 Singapore Art Museum, Singapore 188535 had evolved into the usual Japanese restaurant with tables and chairs. It was more comfortable all right, for us to enjoy high-quality, healthy and affordable Japanese food in a warm, hearty and vibrant environment. The number to dial is 6333 1335.The Sushi Udon Set was complete with springy udon noodles in sumptuous miso broth, and tasty sushi made of fresh ingredients. This is a dream set for any diner who covets a bowl of hot, tasty, thick noodles followed by an assortment of good sushi and sweet watermelon slices.I had the Sashimi Set - with the freshest shrimps, salmon, tuna, swordfish and squid in raw forms - very chewy with bounciness, and palatable for sure. I loved it.For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to drop by:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/01/dinner-at-standing-sushi-bar.html continue reading

Standing Sushi Bar has pretty awesome weeknight promotions. For the full post and pictures visit http://toseetofeeltoeat.blogspot.sg/2014/01/standing-sushi-bar-queens-street.htmlWe came on a Monday night because I wanted cheap salmon sashimi. Cannot resist $3 salmon sashimi and $5 umeshu! This was our first order of 20 slices of salmon sashimi. After finishing this plate, we proceeded to order another 15 slices. When we were done with all our salmon sashimi, I felt like there were many slices of raw fish swimming around in my belly. The salmon sashimi was good and fresh. The cuts were thick and juicy, just the way I like it.We could not possibly only have salmon sashimi for dinner so we decided to order a hand roll. We had one of their specialty rolls, the Rockstar Roll, which was basically a roll with pan-seared salmon. It was delicious! I am always fond of pan-seared salmon and did not really care that this was truly an overdose of salmon. This dinner at Standing Sushi Bar was filled with raw and cooked salmon, and nothing else. But it was just so satisfying! Washing everything down with a $5 glass of umeshu made this dinner perfect! continue reading
