Platter of Meat & Seafood for 2

At first, we thought the platter was a bit little for the price that we paid. But surprisingly, we were really full and cant finish everything.

Food wise, the meat was passable ~Turkey and beef was not tough, just good enough. The ham was good. The seafood was okay. But then, that was the problem. Nothing really left a memorable impression. All was just average, and obviously overpriced.

One thing I thought the service can be better ~ they should serve the platter after we had finished the soup and salad. First of all, the table was not big enough to contain 2 soups, wines, water mugs, salad plus the platter. Perhaps they were trying to create a food spread presentation on our pathetic table? It did, but we were like trying to finish the soup fast so that we can have more room for movement without spilling or breaking anything.

I cant remember the pricing but the Xmas set but the items are quite similiar to the Knight Lancelot (mixture of meats and seafood), which is priced at $89.90 for 2-3 pax.

This castle-themed restaurant serves cuisine that represents what the royal families eat in the medieval period. Upon arrival, the entrance and dining area are all guarded with these armoured knights around 2 metres tall. To add on, there's also a life-size tiger figure as well as really customized furnishings to fit the theme. I didn't manage to take a picture of the other side of the restaurant, but we were able to see the Far Far Away Castle from Universal Studios, so the owner really do know how to pick the perfect location.

We helped ourselves to this platter of starters interesting named as Knights of the Round Table - Platter A ($19.90) & it includes castle drumlets, bratwurst sausages, banana bacon bites, crispy wedges and some side mesclun salad. The salad was amazing & the rest were fine. The only thing we didn't really like was that the drumlets were a tad bit stiff.

Along with some mesclun and straight cut fries, the BBQ Chicken Pullet ($17.50) was served piping hot to our table & the chicken was tender and delicious. However, in my opinion maybe it was slightly overcooked because there were some dry parts. Still, the portion is good for its price.

The Carlsberg Battered Fish & Chips ($17.90) came to us with side mesclun, lemon wedges and tartar sauce. To me, it wasn't a wow factor I was expecting because fish & chips from an English restaurant were supposed to be amazing than other places. But besides the outer crisp, it wasn't perfect.

Maybe my expectations were too high but the next time I ever visit, I'll definitely try something else. Heard from my friend the banquet were amazing & worth the price! But nevertheless, all the food served were so photogenic its worth this trip!

So anyway all the food were served together but not everything was served hot. My idea is that we visited at an awkward timing at 5pm and they were probably short-handed in the kitchen so I couldn't blame.

The restaurant does show some potential, the medieval themed dining concept works really well at that location. I do hope that they would have more options for the sides to every main courses since all the sides that came were mesclun & fries. Overall I heard that it was a good restaurant for family gathering & the live band/music were great, we weren't able to enjoy the performance because we left just the time it was about to start. So if you ever think of visiting, reserve a table any time after 6.30pm!

When the platter of meat arrived, I was quite flabbergasted as it was a lot of meat. Still. Besides the assortment of meat served (there was chicken, beef and pork), there were salad, green apples and roasted potatoes. I think it’s good that they provide some vegetables and fruits as it lent some other texture to the meat. Else one would get really bored eating all these meat after a while (in my opinion).

As one would have guessed, the portion was too much for 2 girls to share and stopped, leaving one-quarter of the meat and other sides. My friend managed to clear everything but we took really look to finish. I think we dined for 2 hours straight.

I love the interior of the restaurant with some Knight statues standing around and the main colours (black and gold) dominated the restaurant. When it turned dark outside, the night view is fantastic (pity I hadn’t taken any pictures). There was also live music in the restaurant where one could dedicate songs!

It was quite expensive dining there but considered the amount of meat served (best to share with 3 people or more), it was actually quite reasonable coupled with the ambience.

Had a lovely and peaceful dinner in this cosy and comfortable restaurant in Vivocity. Service here was excellent as they are very friendly. Have ordered my favourite Pan Seared Fillet of Norwegian Salmon which cost $23.50++. It is served with sauted spinach, which is tasty and flavourful. Shiimeji mushroom are fresh and chewy. THe salmon fish is very fresh and no stingy smell and with the natural sea sweetnest in it.

Personally I m a person who don't like really creamy pasta as I always feel that after eating half of the pasta you will start to develope a very sick feeling and not be able to finish the pasta as compared to let's say having a tomato base pasta. The creamy pasta here taste really good and thick but the same advise, best eaten hot. Once it start to chill, you will get the very sick feeling.

The beef steak taste really tender and good! medium rare steak is awesome. While on the other hand, the roasted chicken taste rather common. And my favourite of the day? Their mushroom soup wins my heart.

Next came this light salad. Bite-sized tomatoes, with corns and chicken with sauce. Not being a tomato-liker from the start, I headed straight for the corn and chicken.. It is definitely a dish to go for.

Platter C consisting of chicken wings, potato wedges, calamari rings, fried squid, and their one of their supposing-signature banana wrapped with bacon strips. It is as I had before, banana does not goes well with the bacon.

Last came The Queen Victoria Banquet ($108.50). Consisting of five highlights, and with meat and vegetable bases, this is the best part of the meal!

I love their scallop, prawns, and back ribs most! Especially their back ribs, full of bbq sauce, and ribs is soft and sweet! Beef is a little hard to my liking, probably due to medium-rare.

STEP 1:
Make a reservation.
Not only do you make a reservation, you explicitly request for a window seat, overlooking the beautiful Singapore waters, Sentosa, Resorts World Sentosa, and the cable car (taking into account that the haze has already cleared up, tyvm). I mean, everyone loves a great view over a meal, don’t they? Read on, and you’ll gain knowledge of what you can actually see, on top of the fantastic view from where you are.

STEP 2:
Soak in the atmosphere.
Really, The King Louis Grill & Bar is the first, and only Medieval-themed Restaurant. Many would not have noticed amidst the countless restaurants in the mall, but it’s located right at the corner of Level 3, VivoCity (where Daiso is). Usually when it’s hidden, it’s a gem (and thus the formation of the term, ‘hidden gem’).

I’ve always been a loyal supporter of local business, and The King Louis Grill & Bar is no exception. It is passionately opened by a local, all in the name of creating that very place for his kids to have fun while dining. I say they have succeeded in that, as can be seen by the accolade under their belt – voted Best Family Restaurant by Parents World for 2 consecutive years now. I’d understand why, because even as a grown-up myself (as much as I hate admitting), I was hugely distracted by the adornments and specially crafted wooden furnishings. Be warned. It’s heavily guarded. Be good.

STEP 3:
Let the feast begin.
Just as the restaurant capacity is, the menu is just as big. Take your time to peruse the menu, because trust me, you are in to be spoiled for choices. From having to decide between the different banquets, to deciding whether to have a mix of seafood + meat or just be a carnivore for the night, expect yourself to have to be decisive here.

Teriyaki Chicken Salad ($13.80++): If you’re a health-conscious person and looking to only fill your stomach with a plate of Salad, you are absolutely in the right place. Not only does the fresh garden salad + grilled chicken breast meat with teriyaki sauce + parmesan cheese complement each other, it is such a big portion there really needs some feasting.

Platter C ($21.90++): Whilst the above caters for the health-conscious ones, this exists for the unhealthy ones, like myself. Crispy wedges, golden calamari, prawn twisters, drumlets and banana bacon bites. I was dying the try the latter, but unfortunately it wasn’t available that day. Well from what I heard, it has received thumbs up reviews all around. Plus, banana (omg) wrapped in bacon (omg). Double omg, I can’t see how it can go wrong.

Fries ($9.90++): Don’t be fooled by its unassuming looks, I found myself munching to the fries even after a very, filling meal. And if you like your fries to go with cheese, perfect.

The Queen Victoria Banquet (2 – 3 persons) ($108.50++): I mean, just look at it. I daresay it’s sufficient for 5 persons to feast on. I am guessing that during the Medieval times, the Kings and Queens were all deeply-stomached soldiers. There are meat aplenty on the banquet, and don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. I just didn’t know where to begin. In the banquets, the people behind it are very thoughtful. On one side of the banquet sits (a) a pasture of greens, ready to open up your palate and start you off. On the other side sits (b) an abundance of carbohydrates, and in this case, roasted potatoes. That should serve as a complementary dish to your (c) mains, which consists of Roasted Beef, Premium BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Pan-seared Snapper, Oven-baked King Prawns and Sautéed Scallops.

While the Snapper fell short, I especially love the Roasted Beef and the Sautéed Scallops. The Roasted Beef, done to your preference, is blanketed with my favorite, Black Pepper Sauce. Being very particular with my beef, I’m glad they’ve aced it – the appropriate toughness while retaining a slightly gamey smell. I thought the Scallops drizzled in garlic and wine sauce were interesting. The very substantial scallops with a slight alcohol touch to it spiced things up well. To end the banquet proper, (d) apples were readily available to wash up your palate. A complete meal, there you go.

Besides the dinner menu, you can expect Kids Meal (in conjunction with the purpose of the set up of the restaurant), and also a Lunch Express Menu (inclusive of Soup + Main Course+ Ice Cream + Drink), starting from just an affordable $10.50++.

STEP 4:
Enjoy the live band.
For 6 days a week, Joel, the resident performer of the restaurant, will be entertaining diners from 6pm – 9pm with your favorite songs. And if you are in love with his angelic voice, you are more than welcomed to adjourn to Queens Dessert Cafe Bistro, just a couple of minutes walk away (located at the Sentosa Boardwalk), as Joel will continue his night of performance there till late.

STEP 5:
Witness the fireworks display.
Remember that at Step 1, I had you make a reservation to ask for window seats? This, is the purpose. Every Saturday at 8pm, from where you are seated, you can witness a fireworks display from Resorts World Sentosa (Lake Hollywood Spectacular). Well, take it as a celebratory one, for whatever reason – that your kingdom has flourished for a century now, that you have just deservedly fought and won a war.

My group ordered two platters for our dinner feast, The Knight Gawain for 4 to 5 pax ($89.50) and the Knight Lancelot for 2-3 pax ($87.90). And boy, I could tell you that it was well worth every penny spent.

The Knight Gawain consist of succulent roasted beef with black pepper sauce, perfectly marinated boneless chicken leg on a kebab stick, chicken breast grilled to perfection with berry compote and the lean pieces of porkloin with rich mushroom sauce. I have to say that my favourite dish in this platter would be the grilled chicken breast, hands down. Not only it is perfectly cooked, it is succulent, juicy and perfectly marinated. Accompanied with the berry compote, the combination of the sauce and meat is simply out of the world. Likewise, the chicken leg on a kebab stick is also well-marinated and charred grilled to perfection. The roasted beef was cooked medium as we requested. It wasn’t too overly rare or well-done and it was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of pepper and salt. The beef was juicy and tender, a perfect complement to the booze we had.

The Knight Lancelot offers an addition to the meaty delights that The Knight Gawain has to offer - seafood items in the likes of mussels with tomato sauce, oven-baked king prawns with great tasting cheese and the fish fillet in garlic cream sauce. The highlight of this platter I would say, would be no doubt the fish fillet in garlic cream sauce. With the fresh fish fillet being perfectly seasoned while retaining its natural taste and in a crispy thin batter, it is hard for me to not choose this dish as one of my main highlight of the day. The oven-baked prawns… Let’s just say that the cheese is amazing and it complements very well with the taste of the fresh giant prawns. The cheese does not overwhelm the taste of the prawns as it is mild and not as strong as other cheeses. I have come across many restaurants serving mussels that are too rubbery and have strong ‘fishy’ smell. King Louis actually managed to get rid of this foul stench and make their mussels surprisingly chewy and appetizing to eat, especially with the fresh tomato sauce to complement it!

We also heard about the Banana Bacon Bites ($10.50) which they are known for. Initially, the combination of banana and bacon piqued my curiosity as I never knew that banana and bacon would ever complement each other. But King Louis proved me wrong. The Banana Bacon Bites literally explodes in your mouth upon biting, releasing the sweet juices of the caramelized banana the savoury taste of the bacon after which. A truly wonderful combination I would say.

It's my second time here. We ordered the Grilled chicken and Fish And Chips! The Grilled chicken was perfectly charred and succulent for that rustic look that makes you feel the meal is fit for kings! Crispy battered for the fish and the chips! The portion was too generous too, had to takeaway the left overs.

Those man-sized armoured models are actually advertisements or signboards for the first and only medieval castle-themed restaurant in Singapore, also known as The King Louis Bar & Grill. To have another restaurant by the name of Queen and Mangosteen, which is nestled at Vivocity fascinates me for some reasons.

That is not all, stepping into The King Louis is similar to entering a world of medieval in Ancient Europe - furnished with classic, specially crafted wooden furnitures, accompanied by a life-size white tiger model. What is a castle without knights? Well, the restaurant is guarded by knights as well, so don't try to think of any funny ideas. Ah yes, it features a scenic view of the harbourfront as well. Therefore, if you want the best seats, do yourself a favour by placing reservations early.

Most of their menu items are named well - medievally, such as Knight Lancelot, King's Banquet or my personal favourite Sir Thomas' Tea Selection (simply because we share similar first names). In the end, we chose Queen Isabelle - a sharing platter for 2 (enough for 3, or even 4) consisting of a gastronomic combination of roasted beef with black pepper sauce, premium BBQ baby back ribs, roasted Queen pullet in English style and lamb steak with rosemary herbs, completed with a salad of coleslaw and fruits.

Among everything that falls on the platter, the succulent and flavourful BBQ racks was my favourite, whereas the tough beef and lamb steak were hard to swallow, especially the former. I even had to use water to assist me with the swallowing. Big fail.

They claimed that inside the castle, which I supposed is the restaurant, you will be treated like King Louis himself. I hoped he did not choked on their tough steaks. Otherwise, The King Louis is awesome for everything else, except the food. Perhaps, a beer or two with your besties is the most ideal thing you could do here.

The price if i am not wrong was about $84?

Served with beef, chicken, kebabs, potatoes and vegetables... this is an epic meal for all of us....

I wanted to see my friends for one last time and that was it after that...

I had a lot of meat and i mean a lot!!! A LOT OF MEAT!!!! Not as bad as carnivore but it was epic...

The service staff was good and we could even see them having their own meals cooked by their own restaurant... hmm sounds wonderful...

I would love to go back but it is one hell of a meal....

The King Louis Bar & Grill located at the top floor of Vivo City, close to where Daiso is. The restaurant serves all sort of grilled food, and there's live band from time to time. Good voices there. First time there, so we mostly ordered the 'signature' dish recommended on the menu. I had the Must try Provencal Porkloin ($23.50), but it turned out to be my least favourite dish of the night. The King Louis Signature Premium BBQ Baby Back Ribs (Half - $18.90) is good though. The ribs is cooked to perfection and with a layer of sweet sauce glazed on it. Tender, and flavourful, together with mesclun, corn salsa and straight cut fries, gorgeous plate of food!

Oven baked pacific king prawns ($23.90) is a disappoinment though. The traditional baked king prawns with fresh tomato and melted cheddar cheese, tastes Ok but not overly fresh. The prawns didn't have the crunchy texture, what a shame.

Pan fried fillet of snapper ($18.90) is a good one! The fish is cooked nicely, good flavour and very fresh. Served with roasted potato, french beans, corn salsa, semi roasted cherry tomatoes, this balanced complete dish is just simple yet great!

Went to the King Louis Bar at Vivo after having finally watched Les Miserables the Movie, hoping to prolong the ‘ang moh’ European experience (Delifrance, by the way, is NOT really French) within the day itself. Greeted by a ominous looking suit of armor, we cautiously entered the restaurant, prepared to defend ourselves with the wife’s handbag and my rusty Taekwondo skills should said suit of armour animate itself via some Merlin or horror movie spell.

The ambience of the restaurant looked as if it tried really hard to give patrons the impression of medieval Europe, and to some extent, this actually worked out pretty well, except for two things: 1) There are no tigers depicted in medieval European culture so placing a replica of one doesn’t quite cut it (unless the tigers decidedly went ‘ang moh’ too, like us that afternoon), and 2) a black theme in medieval Europe seems to be more associated with the witch’s cauldron rather than a rustic tavern with which aged oak or mahogany would have served better.

Nonetheless, we were treated to a royal reception by the friendly staff who waited on us the entire duration of the meal. To be honest, I felt a little uncomfortable having at least two pairs of eyes watching over us from start to finish and attending to us, but that’s probably because we were the early dinner birds of the day – no other patrons yet! Then again, it was a weekday, and the timing of the movie had sealed our dinner bird fate.

As the wife was on her usual “dieting routine”, it was up to me to venture into the dragon’s lair so bravely did by St George. She would probably take a nibble from what I ordered anyway, which was to be a hearty portion of ribeye done medium-rare, although I had wanted to attempt one of their mixed grill feasts – in particular, Lancelot (befitting of my meat lover status).

For the first time in my life, I regretted ordering steak. Not because it was lousy or anything. In fact, it was far from being mediocre. The regret sank in, rather, because it was so good that it was a pity I had not gone for Sir Lancelot! Up to this day, the feelings remain strong and should I revisit King Louis, I would play the role of the dragon that devours Lancelot – flesh and bone.

Lest we forget, this is a food review and review the steak I must, as is my noble quest. The ribeye was nicely grilled, slight charred at the more marbled portion (because fats cook faster), and juicy throughout the leaner one. This leaves a bittersweet succulence in the mouth (the bitterness from the charred), with a lingering aroma of flavours in the palette. The commonfolk would be applauded for their use of a simple, “Wow!” The marinate used (perhaps a clever balance of the usual peppercorn, oil, and salt) embellished the already gratifying flavour, adding a nice little punch to the natural moist – which needless to say was very much appreciated, thank you. Beef lovers who truly want that distinctive beef flavour could opt for the sirloin alternatively, although the ribeye doth bringeth forth that magical touch to thine tastebuds already(eth).

For a humble price of 22.50++, you can bathe in the majesty of a meal which I’ve had the pleasure of doing. ‘Aye’ to that, indeed!
