Long John Silver's ( Yishun )
It been donkey years since I last had Long John Silver until when I decided to give it a try.

We ordered 2 mains and a side.

All I could say is, both our main are serve cold and the fries is not entirely cook. Lucky for the fish and chicken chop that were still edible.

Clam Chowder is alright, MOS burger serve it best still!

I was kind of disappointed to have such meal, after all fast food should kill the craving. I will give Long John a miss...

Ubin Seafood on DEALivery
Cries 2012-07-30

Ubin Seafood ( Joo Chiat )
Don't know what to cook, where to eat and we were dead tired so DEALivery came to my mind. It was a really interesting concept I must say. Whatever you crave for is just a click away. Thus, I wanted to try out restaurant that I haven been to before and came across Ubin Seafood which is nearer to my home. However, it took nearly an hour and slightly more to finally have my dinner!

With all the anticipation, I thought I would have something nice and decent since I was paying $51 overall inclusive of $5 delivery fee.

The salted egg sotong don't really blend well, I thought the taste will be close to salted egg crab but it was far off. Kang Kong taste just lack of the spice with a little kick. Seafood fried rice was very ordinary. The only dish that is o-k-a-y was the prawn paste chicken wing without bone.

It was a total disappointment really but I will still give it a try on DEALivery.

Quality Slip!
Cries 2012-01-03

Thye Hong Casual Café ( Bugis )
These days, it is rare to enjoy food that is serve in consistent quality and standards. The first time is great but the second time worst than ever.

The ingredients are not fresh, I even spotted an insect among the vegetable. Well, I can only say the price speak quality. You want quality, pay more for that if not you have a choice to patronize or not.

I will give this steamboat restaurant a miss now.

   Bad!

Although the Tom Yum soup is not that bad but the ingredients affected the taste. Shake head, shake head!

There was this service staff standing right outside luring customers even when the place was quite pack already and given the space of the restaurant, it couldn't match the demand. She probably thought she could run it like a fast food chain whereby people eat and go but HELLO it is steamboat, people take their time to eat!

As we were seated outside, we were a little uncomfortable with the glaring from the waiting customers "faster eat leh" that kind of feel.

Below Average Japanese Buffet
Cries 2011-12-04

Minoriya ( Katong )
I chose to have my lunch at Minoriya as the price for the buffet was pretty attractive, I forgot how much exactly it was but definitely below $40 per pax.

The restaurant furnishing and decorations gave a strong Japanese feel - the overall environment was great!

The Whites were seated beside our table and they were having ala-cart menu and came in before us.

The buffet menu:

We placed our order and the food came not too long after but the table beside us just stared with envy. By then, the kids already ran out of games to play among themselves and were bothering their daddy. The daddy was still patient and waited still.

The sushi here were really below average. I just couldn't smell the vinegar fragrance in the rice and taste the sweetness of the ingredients. I depended on the soya sauce to makes thing better.

The Chawanmushi just lack of seasoning, a bit bland.

Another round of food came and the table next door was still waiting for their food. The daddy then approached the waitress and asked her to hurry up. Despite that, another 10 minutes passed and he couldn't take it anymore and went to the counter to hurry them. The services here were a bit slow and the staffs appeared to be a little blur headed.

The rest of the items on the menu didn't turn out well, I just regretted coming.

Unagi Yaki Meshi (Eel fried rice) was horrible, I think the egg fried rice I cook taste better than that!

Apparently, the sashimi is the only thing that add value to the buffet.

Not really a good place for sushi.

Below Average Bak Kut Teh
Cries 2011-10-07

Pig Organ Soup - The Food Mall ( Yishun )
My mum decided to have Bak Kut Teh and she chanced upon this stall. So she bought back for dinner.

   Bad!

Immediately, I had a sip of it and that's it. The Bak Kut Teh is rather bland, not really the authentic Bak Kut Teh.

My mum too felt it wasn't nice, rather plain and it is definitely not value for money. I think if you go to the supermarket and buy the instant pack Bak Kut Teh soup ingredients and boil, it definitely taste better than that.

I did expect better from a kiosk...
Cries 2011-10-05

Ho Kee Pau ( Yishun )
Although it is a dim sum kiosk and not a dim sum restaurant but I did expect something better!

The dim sum here is just not about taste but more on the appearance - the appearance look good and is appealing but the taste just can't make it.

   Bad!

   Bad!

   Bad!

By the pictures it look nice but it is the opposite.

The wrap chicken is too meaty, not marinated nicely.

The vegetable bao is not flavoursome at all.

Worst of all is the custard fried bun, the custard inside already cool off and it taste yucky. It is as though you are eating the dough.

And the total was $9.50, I rather spent it at some nice dim sum restaurant.

Just Average Surprisingly
Cries 2011-10-03

The Eastern Restaurant ( Somerset )
By the name of the restaurant, one kind of look forward to what they serve. And once you are here, the disappointment level hit the bottom end...

It was quite empty despite TGIF!

A look at the menu, the price I would say is not within the comfort level for most of us.

I can't remember how much the fried rice cost, it is between $12-$18 which I rather go to some Hong Kong Cafe to have it as the taste is pretty ordinary.

This dish is above $10 and I rather trade it for $8 hotplate zhi char tou fu.

I just felt for a restaurant, this dish has no selling point and doesn't look presentable. I just felt it is one of the dish that you see it in every economic rice stall.

The soup kind of spoil my appetite, it is chicken but it taste like they used ham to boil it. There is a strong ham like flavour to it which kind of make me think what soup I actually ordered!

This is my very first time having custard bun! And thank god, it is the most decent dish we ordered!

The whole bill was about $60++. This is the restaurant not to be remembered.

Lucky Plaza is All About Ayam Penyet!
Cries 2011-08-31

Ayam Penyet President ( Orchard )
My sis was telling me "you have to try the Ayam Penyet at Lucky Plaza" so I went there for lunch as I was at town to run some errand. When I reached, I called my sis and asked her what is the name of the stall but she forgot the name and just told me "it is at level 3 or level 4." Thus, I went to level 3 and then I saw one restaurant that sell Ayam Penyet so we happily went in.

When I saw the menu, I already had doubt that this was not the Ayam Penyet my sis were saying as this restaurant sell Ayam Penyet and rice separately.

Ayam Penyet Smashed
$6

$0.80

Ayam Penyet BBQ
$6

$2

I ordered a Indonesian Milk Tea and it was the worst tea I ever had. I took a few sip and that's it I couldn't drink it as I can't stand the smell of it. The smell is like the smell at Golden Mile Complex where Vietnam or Thai ingredients can be found.

   Bad!

$1.80

Avocado $3.80

The Ayam Penyet here wasn't fantastic it was so so only and for the price it was not worth it. If ever someone tell you the Ayam Penyet at Lucky Plaza is nice, please make sure you get the restaurant name as the whole entire Lucky Plaza has a lot of stalls or restaurants selling Ayam Penyet!

A Let Down
Cries 2011-08-31

Crystal Jade Ginseng Chicken & BBQ ( Orchard )
Initially I wanted to have steamboat at their Holland outlet but who knew when I headed all the way there it was full house and they didn't accept walk-in. I called the Takashimaya outlet then and was told Centrepoint serve steamboat so we head there. Ended out it was Korean BBQ! Crystal Jade has too many outlets that it is so confusing which outlet specialize in what.

Never mind it is Korean BBQ, but what really piss me off is the BBQ hotplate itself! I don't know what's wrong with their BBQ hotplate, food get easily burn and it is bad for health.

The first round barbecuing and the meats were already burnt. It was not that we BBQ the meat for too long.

Their menu for the buffet is quite limited, it is just pancakes, kimchi soup, fried rice, noodles, fish/chicken/pork/beef meat, hot dog, mussel, red bean and water melon that's all. I rather travel a little longer to Jurong for Shiu Yakiniku. They both use the smokeless BBQ method but at Shiu Yakiniku the meats don't easily stick on the hotplate and get burn easily. Not only that, Shiu Yakiniku offer much more food selections.

The only draw for me is the Ginseng Chicken Soup but 1 person is entitle to 1 serving and same goes with the prawn.

The Ginseng Chicken Soup is really good! They sell it at $25 but right now they are doing a promotion at $9.

Beside the Ginseng Soup, I only fancy the vermicelli and their desserts.

It cost about $36 per pax but I don't feel worth it as we had 1 round of the BBQ and because the burn was so bad we didn't really had the second round. Most of the tables were done with 1 round too.

We actually ordered second round of meats to BBQ! The burn was so bad that we might have to pay for food wastage as we couldn't force ourselves to eat the burnt meat. But luckily we didn't have to pay.

Average Malay Food
Cries 2011-08-22

Ayza's Restaurant ( Sembawang )
Previously, this coffee house business was very brisk until when it changed another boss and is now known as Ayza's Restaurant.

I gave this so called restaurant a try after visiting their website. I saw on their menu that they serve desserts and is open 24/7 so I didn't really hesitate.

When I arrived I was kind of disheartened, on their website things look 100 times more appealing whereas when I was physically there at their shop house it was dull and boring. And there's no ice kachang and etc as shown on their website!

   Bad!

Nasi Lamak

My mom had the Nasi Lamak and she say it is o-k-a-y.

Chicken Chop

They were very considerate though, they packed the coleslaw, the beans and the chicken chop sauce separately. Again it was o-k-a-y as commented from my sis.

Very ordinary!

Chicken Rice

I would rate the chicken rice a 3 out of 5 despite the fact that the seller gave me a drumstick.

I will rather patronize the Malay coffee shop further down the road.

Great The First Time Round But...
Cries 2011-08-04

Texas Chicken ( Serangoon )
It will be the last time I have it the second round.

I tried the Texas Chicken the first time round at the Expo outlet and that very much left me a good impression. The food taste delicious during my first visit.

I was looking for a quick-fix before catching a movie, so I decided to have Texas Chicken.

There's not much people after lunch hour, so I didn't have to wait and queue.

   Bad!

I used to love their Honey Butter Biscuits, the biscuit here tasted a bit salty and it wasn't nicely bake - too soft; scrap dropped everywhere.

Chicken portions was not adequate for a meal, it wasn't juicy, crispy, tender at all. And for the price of it, I rather have KFC!

   Bad!

The Potatoes tasted burn, too overly cook. With the sauce it wasn't helping at all.

Overall, quite a let down. This is a fast food chain that you have to try your luck with, some day it taste good, some day it just don't taste nice. It is not like KFC which hold their standard no matter which outlet you visit.

Worst Japanese Food
Cries 2011-07-15

Food Junction Japanese ( Tampines )
I paid $7 for this meal and it tasted awful!

The chicken cutlet was cold. From that, I concluded that they cooked it way beforehand and let it on air for too long. Not crispy at all.

The salmon portion not only was small but not fresh either.

For a $7 meal, totally not worth any cents at all.

Butterscotch? Taste like Durian.
Cries 2011-07-11

Little Ice Cream Kafe ( Katong )

After a meal at With a Pinch of Salt decided to cross over and have my dessert.

Every Friday they have Ice Cream buffet @$12.90 if I am not wrong and that day I went in was actually Friday. There was a pretty good crowd and most of them were having ice cream buffet.

I scanned at the counter to see what flavours are available and it wasn't to my liking so I took away the butterscotch in a pint. The way the staff scoop the ice cream and put it in the pint made me frown. The staff really scoop the ice cream in the size of a ice cream scoop into the pint. I didn't know this is the way they sell their ice cream in a pint, if I know I would have ice cream in a cup then because it is simply not worth the price to pay for a pint of ice cream not fill up completely. I did rather buy some random ice cream in a tube at Cold Storage!

The butterscotch ice cream taste like durian. not only I felt so my boyfriend felt so too.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert ( Bedok )
Don't get deceive by the crowd...

My sis had the Mango Pomelo for $4.70 which was super not worth the price tag. It wasn't fresh mango used totally, it was made up of syrup. I would say it is pretty deceiving!

I had the Honey Dew which was decent enough. It was honey dew ice cream beneath and taste alright. Still for the price tag of $4.20 I rather have some quality ice cream else where. smile

Malacca Celup ( Joo Chiat )

They are having a promotion in line with GSS, per pax is $17.70. I went to this place in hope to taste something similar to the Lok Lok in Johor which I am in love with! It was pretty disappointing...

Basically, their concept is to use satay gravy as the key attraction. But then, their satay gravy is just so-so.

   Bad!

Not only that, their food really didn't make the cut, food taste yucky not marinated at all. Just can't force myself to eat the tasteless meat and even with the satay gravy it was not helping at all.

Not value for money at all!

The only food that taste nice was the Century Egg!
