Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude ( Tampines )
Quite a few bakery chains in Singapore now is baking the mini buns to cater for customers who love to try more variety of flavours. Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude is selling five mini buns at $2.95. You can choose three for $1.99. Variety wise, this bakery doesn't as too many of the choices, most of the mini buns are either sausage or ham. I bought five, and my favourite is the sausage cheesy bun. However, the bread texture is a bit hard.

Dim Sum
Smile 2013-03-15

Swatow Seafood Restaurant ( Toa Payoh )
Swatow is famous for their Teochew cuisine, yet some of their dimsum are actually quite good. Har Gao (Prawn dumpling) ($4) is my all-time favourite. The juiciness of the prawn filling is savoury and of good flavour. The skin's thickness is just right too.

I tried their durian dessert for the first time. The crispy pastry has a thick and rich durian paste filling. The aroma of the durian just burst into your mouth upon the first bite.

Egg tarts are so-so. Perhaps they weren't warm enough. The egg filling is actually quite silky smooth,

Apart from dimsum, one could order dishes from the menu if it's after 11am. We tried Pork liver roll ($10), which is one of the Teochew delicacy. Very strong in liver taste, not my favourite, but I bet it's authentic Teochew flavour.

Prawn roll ($10) is good, ingredients are pretty similar with liver roll, except without the organ taste.

Swatow handmade tofu ($12) has a strong flavour of egg in the tofu, nice to eat. Cooked with gingko, this dish is simple yet very homely taste.

BAKERZIN ( Tampines )
I head over to Bakerzin for dinner the other day, ordering a salad, a soup, as well as a pasta dish. Simple yet good. Waldorf Salad ($11.50) consists of lots of fruits, such as apple, dried cranberries etc. Very light and refreshing.

I like their Pumpkin soup ($6.90), rich in pumpkin flavour, smooth texture and very comforting when drinking it hot.

Arrabiata linguine ($13.50) is garlicky and spicy. Appetizing flavour, and the tomato paste is very well-seasoned.

Dian Xiao Er ( Serangoon )
I like reading Dian Xiao Er's menu, as they actually made the effort to calculate the calories content of each dishes. Fascinating hey. We first had the Stewed crocodile soup with almonds ($7), which is slightly disappointed. The soup is overly salty and not much of the ingredients seen.

Braised mushroom in chinese wine ($10.90), 260kCal, is so tasty! Love the Chinese wine taste so much, flavour fully absorbed by the assorted fresh mushroom, yummy!

Chinese spinach in superior stock ($12.30), 330kCal, is quite a classic dish in the Chinese restaurant. The Chinese spinach is served over wolfberries and conpoy sweetened stock. Very well-done.

Dong Po Pork ($13.90) is the restaurant's all-time favourite. The pork belly actually melt in your mouth. Very good flavour! However, it's causing 1510kCal intake. Sinful but thumbs up!

Good for fun

Nook ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )

Nook Pancake House is the place that you and your mates will have lots of fun.

The selling point of this eatery is their DIY pancakes idea! (1) you get choose either jar or squeezer bottle, then (2) choose pancake batter, (3) choose sides and toppings, and finally (4) create your very own pancakes, any shape you like and have fun!!

Nook's Awesome Cheese Burger Soup ($6) is awesome! The soup consists of minced beef, lettuce and cheddar, very creamy cheesy taste, absolutely comforting! Uniquely yummy!

Apparently The Rainbow Pancake is the no.1 best seller of the shop. The gorgeous stack is made up from six colourful pancakes, very much like rainbow colours. Different colour represents different flavours. There are original buttermilk, asian pandan, dark chocolate, funky banana and strawberry farm. Their individual flavour miught not distinct enough to be differentiated out easily, but overall speaking, visual wise, it's a lovely dish.

The Breakfast Bully ($18) is another no.1 of the shop. It's pretty much everything you can imagine in a American breakfast! Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans, vine riped tomatoes and brioche. Quite nice as a whole.

TOAST BOX & The Icing Room ( Tampines )
Apart from the usual toast sets and noodles sets, Toast Box has now serving the new sandwich sets. I tried their Tuna and cucumber set ($3.80) and totally in love with it. The tuna filling is satisfying huge in portion, served with lots of diced cucumber and onion, dressed in mayonnaise sauce. I like the buttery crispy toast too.

Bacon and egg set ($3.80) on the other hand, might not be as tasty. The sunny side up is descent, but I reckon the bacon is a little too hard and has this greasy after-taste. Not a fans.

Subway Breakfast

Subway ( Tampines )
For as low as $5 or less, you get to have the gourmet Subway breakfast roll, and with an additional $1, you could complete the breakfast with a cup of coffee/tea.

I had the Western Egg Breakfast ($4). From the picture on the board, it looks exactly like the Ham & Egg Breakfast. Out of curiosity, I asked the staff what's the difference between the two. Apparently, Western Egg Breakfast has one slices of ham with egg, while the Ham & Egg Breakfast has two slices of ham with egg. Alright, now you know what to choose hey! I like the healthy salad that comes in the roll, a good start of the day for sure, however, I reckon the egg is a bit under-seasoned. It could taste better for sure.

Slurpy Ramen with discount
Smile 2013-03-13

Shin-Sapporo Ramen ( Tampines )
Shin-Sapporo Ramen has quite a few promotions going on: If you dine in before 11.30am, you'll get 30% off the total bill. And if you are paying with citibank, you'll get a $10 voucher for your next visit.

Shin-Sapporo Gyoza (pork)/ 5 pieces ($5.80) is their signature side dish that goes very well with ramen. The well-marinated minced pork with Japanese spices filling is juicy and flavourful. It's simply excellent to eat with Japanese shoyu, rice vinegar and chilli oil. Good snacks!

Hakata Kara-Tonkotsu Ramen ($14.80) is a mildly spicy version of the Tonkotsu Ramen. There's an intriguing balance of the delectable rich broth and spice. Very comforting and tasty!

Shio Ramen ($13.80) contains Japanese sea salt and is well known for its light and clear soup. Topped with various ingredients such as vegetables, seaweed, bamboo shoots, tender yakibuta and egg, it's definitely a good choice for those who prefer a light meal.

Back again for more Italian food

Covelli Italian Bistro & Wine Bar ( Somerset )
Covelli is one of my favourite Italian restaurant that has good ambiance, serves good food with absolutely affordable price. We were served with the complimentary toasted herbs bread while waiting for our food.

We ordered two entrees. Covelli zuppa di funghi ($12) is yummy! The cream of wild mushroom soup is served with white truffle oil, full flavours!

Crab cake ($16) is a must try. The pan seared crab meat patties is made from generous amount of fresh crab meat, and fried till golden bits to give the crispiness outer layer, and finally served with Mesclun salad and purple tartar sauce.

Spicy Chorizo Sausage ($18) is slightly too salty and sour I reckon. The Orecchiette pasta with chorizo sausage is served in arrabbiata style, you might need lots of water after this.

Black truffle ravioli ($22) is rich yet comforting. The ravioli filled with black truffle and cheese is cooked in brown butter cream, finally topped wityh grated hazelnuts. Sinfully yummy.

Barramundi and lobster ($32) is a luxury combination. Two beautiful fresh seafood are being put together. The pan roasted barramundi fillet and charcoal lobster were served with fresh baby spinach in Gewurztraminer cream. The charcoal lobster is something new to me, lovely crispy texture on the outside, though it might not be so appealing but taste wise, thumbs up.

The King Louis Bar & Grill ( Telok Blangah )

The King Louis Bar & Grill located at the top floor of Vivo City, close to where Daiso is. The restaurant serves all sort of grilled food, and there's live band from time to time. Good voices there. First time there, so we mostly ordered the 'signature' dish recommended on the menu. I had the Must try Provencal Porkloin ($23.50), but it turned out to be my least favourite dish of the night. The slow cooked porkloin is thin in slices, grilled and served with creamy mushroom sauce, but I find it dry and tasteless.

The King Louis Signature Premium BBQ Baby Back Ribs (Half - $18.90) is good though. The ribs is cooked to perfection and with a layer of sweet sauce glazed on it. Tender, and flavourful, together with mesclun, corn salsa and straight cut fries, gorgeous plate of food!

Oven baked pacific king prawns ($23.90) is a disappoinment though. The traditional baked king prawns with fresh tomato and melted cheddar cheese, tastes Ok but not overly fresh. The prawns didn't have the crunchy texture, what a shame.

Pan fried fillet of snapper ($18.90) is a good one! The fish is cooked nicely, good flavour and very fresh. Served with roasted potato, french beans, corn salsa, semi roasted cherry tomatoes, this balanced complete dish is just simple yet great!

If you are a huge chocolate fans, you would definitely been to Awfully chocolate! This place always fix my chocolate craving perfectly. I love the fact that the chocolate desserts here are dark choc and not overly sweet. I had the double chocolate ice-cream this round, it is selling at $3.80 per scoop, very huge portion indeed. The ice-cream is creamily smooth, very rich and thick in chocolate flavour! Sinful yet too good to resist. A must try for sure!

Treasure Pot in Hakka Style
Smile 2013-03-13

Crystal Jade Kitchen ( Toa Payoh )
Crystal Jade at Toa Payoh is now offering a range of Hong Kong street food on a separate menu, some of which look really yummy. I had the Hong Kong milk tea ($3.90), and they actually use a glass flask and shot glasses to serve it, how cool is that! Silky milky taste, i like it heaps.

The two of us ordered the Treasure Pot in Hakka Style ($38.80), which is supposed to serve up to 4 persons. The staff advised us not to order anymore dishes if we going for the treasure pot, and we were glad that we took the suggestion! The treasure pot contains lots of ingredients such as Chicken, duck, prawn, sea cucumber, pork belly, gluten, pig's skin, radish, fresh mushroom, duck web, deep-fried fish balls, yam ... and feeds the two of us just nicely. the gravy is flavourful and very nice to go with white rice.

Love the muffin!

Kenny Rogers Roasters ( Tampines )
This is probably my first Kenny Roger in many many years! I'm quite surprise that they serve the complimentary squarish muffin to every diner. The muffin looks good, and it tastes very good indeed! It has a crispy texture on the outside, and fluffy moist inside. You can taste a hint of corn flavour with some corn kennel bits in the muffin too. Lovely! If you wish to have more of the muffin, simply order it from the menu.

I had the Chicken pot pie ($15.90), and shockingly realized how huge it is! It's loaded with chunks of roasted chicken and fresh vegetales in a creamy sauce, served in a bread bowl. It tastes Ok, but I reckon it's slightly over starchy, and I couldn't finish the bread.

With the order of the chicken pot pie, I get to choose two side dishes. One of which I chose the potato salad. It was kind of an disappointment as it didn't come with ingredients like egg slices and crispy bacon as normal potata salad would have.

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao ( Bugis )
It's my first visit to this Crystal Jade outlet, which hidden in the far end corner at the basement level. I ordered the Steamed soup xiao long bao (4 pieces for the price $5.20), and totally in love with the juiciness of the filling. Upon bursting the bun, the soup just oveflown and can't even hold by the soup spoon. Taste wise, very rich flavour. yummy.

Noodles in Sichuan style with pork and wanton ($10.80) is not a bad choice, but could be too thick and filling when you finish the whole bowl. The broth is rich in peanut taste, slightly spicy, yet I reckon it could have more minced meat to enhance the sweetness of it.

Noodle.Yong Tau Fu - Flavours Food & Beverages ( Tampines )
Flavours is the only air-con canteen in Temasek Poly, hence the food here are selling at slightly higher price than the other canteen. Yong Tau Fu is one of the stall that always has constant long queue. One would need to pick a minimum of 6 pieces that costs $2.20. Noodles are sold at an additional cost of $0.50, laksa gravy costs an additional $0.50 as well. I have tried their laksa, and quite like the thickness of it. The aroma of spices is quite well-executed too. It's a good choice for sure.
