Charco's ( Marine Parade )
If you are looking cheap & Halal ribs, then you should definitely consider Charcos.
It is cheap and comes in a big portion.
They also have a set meal where you order the main course and you can add their salads.

and their salads, they have so much variety of it!!
I especially love the egg salad and the chicken avocado.
I think eating the salad itself is already quite full. Their roasted beef is also nice.
In fact i think it's nicer than the ribs.

If you are a Meat person, then you'll be very happy here!

Great place to eat satay
Just OK 2010-11-26

Rasa Istimewa Restaurant 2 ( West Coast )
There is a variety from you to choose from but i always love to come by here for Steamboat cos it is so affordable.
It's about $12.00 per pax and plentiful to eat.

Another of my favourite would be the Satay. It is very flavouful but does not make u go jelak.
However, i prefer to eat at their branc at CCK Park because of their ambience.

As for the seafoods, it is just so-so.
I ordered the Cockles before and it was not very fresh.

The Cereal Prawns was great though.
The Saambal stingray is quite subjective. Sometimes it's nice, sometimes it's not.

Badoque!
Smile 2010-11-26

Badoque Café ( Bedok )
I finally tried Badoque after i heard so much raves about it online and through friends.
It was at Simpang Bedok, not one of my favourite place because that place is just uber-crowded.

I went on a weekday, so the crowd wasn't that overwhelming (thank god!).
However, Badoque itself is a nice and cosy place to chill out.
They have seats al-fresco as well.

One thing i really must comment on, is their impeccable service.
The orders came fast and the sales staff are really very friendly and their knowledge of their food
is impressable.

I ordered the Slab of Steak. The servings was really huge, i got a shock when it came!
But i find it a little too dry for my liking.

However, all my friends loved their food! I can't remember what they ordered though.
We also ordered small pieces of cakes for desserts and it was yummylicious.

The icing on the cake would be, there's No GST and No Service Charge!
Seriously!! For that kind of service, and they are not charging service charge.. wooooaaah!

Value for Money
Smile 2010-11-26

Mad Jack ( Jalan Kayu )
Mad Jack is one of our favourite haunts whenever we have any Birthday celebrations.
It is a cosy place with great and friendly staffs.

They are flexible, so we are able to bring in our own birthday cake (even though they sell delish cakes as well!)

One of my fav food to order would be the Rib Eye Steak. At $21.90, it is definitely a good deal as the portion is quite huge.
Another must order order would be the fish & Chips which is huge as well.

If you are on a tighter budget, u can opt for the Set meals (Lunch or Dinner) and it will come with a Free Drink and Desserts.

Speaking of Desserts, you must must try the Oz Brown (brownie + ice cream) or the Wild Boy (Banana Crumble + Ice cream). But only
if you have a sweet tooth cos it's really really sweet! smile

Swedish Cuisine anyone ?
Just OK 2010-11-08

Fika Swedish Café & Bistro ( Bugis )
I recently went to Fika Swedish Cafe for my Birthday celebration.
I wanted to try something different for to mark another year of my life.

Fika seems a great choice given that it is a Swedish Cafe and i have not tried Swedish food before.
It is centrally located and the ambience is just nice.

We went over for lunch on a Monday and there were already 3 groups having their lunch there.

Ambience: It is a quaint and cosy place and the decoration is really nice, made up of mostly white furniture.

Food: We ordered the Grilled Salmon and the Swedish Meatballs.
The Grilled Salmon is nothing to be raved about however i love the Meatballs!

My Fiance first thought the serving won't be enough for him cos there werent many meatballs anyway
but boy were we surprised at how full we were.

But then again, it could be the potatoes we ate (we ate lots of it!)

We also order the Cheesy Wedges and it does taste great but not as different as any wedges served in other western stalls.

The Mushroom soup was great though and totally handmade.

It was an overall good experience but i don't feel it is any different from any other western restaurants.

However, i would come back because of the good service and the ambience.

One of the best Halal Chicken Rice
Smile 2010-11-08

Evertop Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice ( Clementi )
This chicken rice shop needs no introduction.
It has moved from its premises near Tanglin Halt to Clementi much to my delight.

If you are looking for a nice and Halal Chicken Rice, do try Evertop Chicken Rice.
Everything is nice. From the rice, to the chicken and the Chilli.

Service is fast too. U order at the counter, they will give a table no and within minutes,
everything will be served to u..

Apart from their popular chicken rice, do try the Prawn Cocktail.
It looks like a wanton ball but has the additional fruit cocktail in the centre which makes it even more interesting.

U will also notice that they serve a small serving of Acar with the chicken.

The vegetable dishes (mainly sambal kangkong & Kailan) tastes so-so though.

They also offer a wide variety of drinks and smoothies to choose from. one of my favourite would definitely have to be the Mango Tango.

This would be a bit expensive than the normal kopitiam chicken rice but it is so worth it!

Great place for Celebrations!
Smile 2010-11-04

Swensen's ( Bugis )
Swensens has alwyas been one of my family favourites when it comes to Celebrations.
It has got to do with the wide variety of food offered and the kind price tag!

It also sure help that their ice cream cakes are yummy.

If you ask me for my favourites, it would have to be their Deep Fried Mushroom, Almond Lamb Chop and their steaks.

Their pastas tastes great too!

As for their ice creams, you should totally try the Chocolate Malt!
It is a must for me to order that cos it is not too sweet but rich in flavour.

The other thing i love from swensen has got to be the ice cream in the pans. i really forgot what it is called.
But u should try it cos it really taste awesome. However, do not attempt to try it on your own because it is really really rich and it's good to share it with someone.

Swensen is ia family restaurant so do expect big crowds and noisy children. so this may not exactly be an ideal place for dates!

Service is good relatively, no matter how busy they are. smile

Not the best but it will do.
Just OK 2010-11-04

Sushi Tei ( Orchard )
I recently brought over my friend from India to Sushi tei as she wanted Japanese food.

There were not much crowd at their paragon Branch during Lunch time, so it was quite a peaceful lunch we had.
Service was great. The staff were attentive to our needs and filled up our Tea promptly.

The sashimi could have been better.. i just think its not worth the price we were paying.

The tempura don't taste as nice too and i think there are nicer tempuras i have tasted before.

The Unagi was great though. We finished that up first cos it was one of the nicest dish we ordered apart from the usual sushi.

While Sushi Tei has a great environment which u can totally bring your friends to, it is not the place to go to if you wanna try authentic japanese food.

However, i would definitely go back there again because of the good service and environment

A nice place to chill with your friends
Smile 2010-11-04

Wanna' B Halal Cafe ( Arab Street )
If you are looking for a nice place to chill with your friends at Arab Street,
you might want to consider Wanna B.

It is also one of the nicest Halal Cafe that serves a variety of Western dishes.

I especially love their Mushroom Soup which i believe is home-made.
It is thick and creamy but does not make u "jelak". It is served with slice of Garlic bread which tastes so-so to me.

But the Mushroom soup is a must to orderas your starter.

Another western fare which i love would have to be their Sirloin Steak.
It is hard to find good and Halal Sirloin steak. Wanna B would be the reight place to bring your Muslim friends!

If you however, prefer something Asian, try their Spicy Fusion Fried Rice.
It is actually loosely termed as the Nasi Goreng Kampong and it is such a refreshing change from the Mamak shop!

5 Stars for this!
Smile 2010-10-29

Golden Pillow 933 ( Kaki Bukit )
Recently, we ran out of ideas of where to go for a Birthday celebration so we decided to try ordering in Golden Pillow.
The delivery took about 1 hour to reach us, so do call them earlier to avoid delays.

They were packed nicely in a box (like a cake) and amazingly arrived our place safe and sound with no spillage whatsoever,

When we opened the box, we were shocked to see how huge it really is.
We cut the bun into 4, peel it open and it reveals a reasonable amount of curry packed in a plastic bag.
Normally I would find it yucky to see curry packed in plastic bags but amazingly, it looks really2 clean, so I had no qualms of eating it right from the plastic bag itself.

I really love the bun. It is super soft and have this subtle butter flavor on it that I can eat on it’s own.
The curry was really yummy too and they gave use a reasonable amount of chicken.

I would say that one bun is ideal for 4-6 pax at least.
I swear, it is HUGE!

Smashed Chicken!
Smile 2010-10-29

Ayam Penyet Ria ( Boon Lay )
I first discover Ayam Penyet Ria when I saw it at Lucky Plaza years ago.
I love the Ayam Penyet there, although it’s not as authentic as the ones I tasted in Indonesia.

When I chance upon Ayam Penyet Ria at Jurong Point, iw as pretty excited cos its nearer to home.
Decided to try a different dish this time and so I tried the Pece Lele Penyet.
It’s basically smashed catfish.

Seriously, it does not look appetizing at all. It was really huge though.
Even my friends were scared of how it looked.
Granted, the catfish was not exactly nice-looking afterall, it doesn’t help if it’s smashed!

However, it tasted reaaaaally good!
The meat is somehow moist but does not have those fishy smell.
It was fried just right and it was accompanied with Tahu & tempe and the delicious Sambal Belacan.

I think I prefer the Pece Lele than the Ayam Penyet.

Try it when you are there next time!

The Best Fried Chicken in Town!
Smile 2010-10-29

Arnold's Fried Chicken (City Plaza) ( Katong )
It was yet another trip to Arnold Fried Chicken!

If you have been to the outlet at City Plaza, you would know that you have to order at the counter,
they will give you a queue No and you will have to wait for your turn to eat.

We waited for at least 45mins before we could get in but that 45min was totally worth it!

Please do not expect tip-top service from the crew. You be lucky if they even smile at you.
But understably, the place is a mayhem!

The Potato platter is a must-have as your starter.
I especially love the potato chip and criss-cross fries.

When u are at Arnold's, you definitely must order the Fried Chicken!
It's just something about the chicken that makes you keep coming back.

The skin is really crispy but not as oily and fatty as it's competitor.
We always fight for the skin ( though of course it is still fattening!)

The Fish and Chips are not that bad as well, but the star of the menu would definitely be the Fried Chickens themselves

   The Potato Platter

The one we came here for! :)

Not one of the best Mediterranean Cuisine.
Cries 2010-10-29

Amirah's Grill Restaurant & Café ( Arab Street )
Me and my friends went for one of their Ramadhan Buffets and was really dissapointed in
the quality of their food. They do not remotely taste mediterranean to me.

In fact, i feel that most of the cuisine offered were kinda jumbled up.

We found a Sharkfin-look-alike soup in the buffet menu.
The yellow rice was not flavourful, it just tasted bland.

But the service and environment totally made up for it. It is really a nice place to chill out with your friends.
