Red Bean Pancake
Cries 2011-04-22

Pancake - North Canteen ( Ang Mo Kio )
As compared to Jollibean, the min jiang kueh here is average. I decided to try their red bean filling since I have always been having the usual peanut version. As I ordered for takeaway, the pancake was no longer crispy by the time I reached home. The jiang kueh was too thick in my point of view and it lacked the springiness. Also, the red bean filling was dry and it tasted not sweet enough. Not ever gonna get my pancake fix from here in future.sad

funnel cake sticks
Cries 2011-04-16

Burger King ( Rochor )
Lately, Burger King had this new sampling addition to their menu- funnel cake sticks. I guess they were inspired by the French toast sticks but it was really not to my liking. The golden brown dough, slightly crispy, was topped with a generous portion of fine sugar. Tasted very much like sugar doughnuts except that it came in a cigar-shaped size. Should have ordered my regular fries instead of this heavy tasting dough. Tastes kinda wrong.

1 star Chicken Rice
Cries 2011-03-09

Five Star Hainanese Chicken Rice . Porridge ( Sin Ming )
Having passed by this chicken rice stall on a weekday evening, my friend and I decided to try their chicken rice. The waiter and waitress were touting when they asked for our orders. Their chicken rice was quite a disappointment. It wasn't as tasty as the authentic one. The boiled chicken however, was tender since they claimed its kampung chicken.Their soup is rather bland without the taste of chicken soup. Frankly speaking, I don't think they deserve to call themselves FIVE STAR Chicken Rice. They should have some humility. The food was not decently priced either.

The Fresh Bread Shop ( Sin Ming )
I have had a so-so experience here..the breads are relatively small in sizes and their muffins are over priced. One small bun about the half the size of an i-phone costs me 60 cents. Wouldn't mind paying if the taste was good, but the hot dog bun I've tried was pretty average. A little disappointed especially since it wasn't very filling either. This could well be my last visit.

Bishamon~
Cries 2010-12-27

Bishamon ( Bugis )
I heard from some friends that Bishamon had some nice ramen and decided to check it out myself one afternoon. Their original miso ramen costs $8.50 for a small bowl and the portion was somewhat like what a primary school kid would eat. The noodles were springy no doubt, but the ingredients were too little. Some bean sprouts, some corn, like 2-3 thin slices of beef and half an egg (YES, not even 1 egg like the one shown on the menu). The soup was dangerously salted. Adding on, I also ordered a glass of iced green tea ($1), which arrived at my table- 'ice-less'. The drink was badly diluted. It tasted like 90% tap water and 10% green tea. It was definitely a disappointing lunch.

Spending:
Approximately
SGD 9.50

Poh Piah
Just OK 2012-03-25

Fish Ball Noodle Heng Heng Bao Bing ( Sin Ming )
Beside Heng Heng Fishball Noodle, there's this poh piah corner where the uncle makes quite nice poh piah. Tried it one afternoon and it tastes okay. The 'dao gays' were very crunchy and the poh piah skin wasn't too dry. Costs something like $1.30 per piece and I thought it was quite reasonable. Its best to eat it fresh before the fillings becomes soggy.

Chee Cheong Fun
Just OK 2012-03-18

Little Hong Kong (Dim Sum) ( Raffles Place )
I had a random craving for chee cheong fun one afternoon. Decided to try this store since it seems to be the only one selling chee cheong fun around the area. The chee cheong fun tasted average to me as I preferred the traditional one with the sweet sauce. It was interesting to see the store lady cook the chee cheong fun though. The skin is very thin and evenly rolled out. On a side note, I think the sauce they provided goes better with their dim sums instead of chee cheong fun.

Brownies

The Brownie Factory ( Raffles Place )
We had a party and decided to order some brownies for snacks. There were some macadamia nuts in the brownie and it tastes soft and crunchy. On the whole, I think the brownies tasted average and its quite expensive. Nevertheless, there are many other varieties offered in the shop. I would love to try their other flavors some day..

Mango Steamed Cake
Just OK 2012-03-15

BreadTalk ( Little India )
I was around the area and decided to buy something for breakfast! After looking around, I settled for a mango steamed cake. Its one of the few things I've not tried before. The cake has this very light and fluffy texture. Taste wise, however was average. The mango flavor is very subtle..maybe I should try their other flavors next round!

Chocolate Cake
Just OK 2012-03-15

Loola's ( City Hall )
It was my colleague's birthday and we decided to buy her a cake from Awfully Chocolate. The chocolate cake was awfully nice and it was packed neatly into a box. As we picked the All Chocolate flavor, the whole cake was filled with pure dark chocolate. There was a layer of chocolate fudge in between and the taste is not too bitter but appropriately sweet. A good recommendation for chocolate lovers..!

Lau Pa Sat Economic Rice ( Raffles Place )

There's always a long queue at this economical rice store. I ordered two vegetables and one meat dish for takeaway. Costs me $3.50. I guess this store is quite reasonably priced and their ingredients are cooked fresh. I like their stir fried lean pork as well as vegetables, not too salty but tasty enough. The staffs at the store were fast and efficient in handling out my orders.

Cold Udon
Just OK 2012-03-11

Udon Factory ( Raffles Place )

This was my first time trying cold udon; I normally have my udon warm, in a soup.
I ordered a Kama-age udon which came with their signature home-made dipping sauce. The sauce was extremely salty though. Thankfully, a lime was given to put off the saltiness..but I felt that it was still quite salty after squeezing the lime. Besides the udon noodles, one can also choose from a variety of side dishes like tempura..mostly deep fried choices.

Mee Sua
Just OK 2012-03-11

Xiao Bar Wang ( Raffles Place )
My friends and I love this place for their mee sua. For people who don't enjoy oysters in their mee sua, this place would be recommended! There's like meat balls in the mee sua and their noodles are very smooth. The gravy is not too thick and the parsley is very fragrant. Overall, the price of the dishes are affordable but the portions are quite small.
Also, their specialty cold noodles is always unavailable.

Four Leaves Bread

Four Leaves ( Upper Thomson )

My mum bought me some mini buns for breakfast that day. These cute and miniature buns tasted as yummy as they looked. The buns were chewy and costs something like $2.95 for 4 pieces. Since I was a seafood lover, my favorite bun was the crab meat one. The milo bun was not too bad either, with a sweet taste of chocolate fillings inside. The other two flavors were more ordinary - tuna & mushroom chicken.

Swiss Roll
Just OK 2012-03-04

Polar Puffs & Cakes ( Thomson )
My friends and I decided to grab a quick bite in the afternoon. Thought of trying polar cakes and puffs since we've not tried their cakes or puffs before. I bought a strawberry swissroll as it looked really sweet and pretty. Was quite satisfied with my swiss roll except that the jam was a little too sweet. There are some bits of sugar sprinkled at the top of the cake too. Better to sip on some tea with it. smile
