Braised Hokkien Noodle
Just OK 2012-07-22

Soon Hiang Hng ( Taman Jurong )

This was another late dinner right after work in this food centre. I was left with limited choice so decided to have braised hokkien noodle from this stall. The flat yellow noodle braised with ingredients like fishcake, lean meat, prawns and vegetable to the prefect texture. It might be a really simple dish but it has such appetizing taste. All the ingredients tasted so fresh. It tasted even better if eaten with those green cut chillies. It was an enjoyable plate of noodle.

Sliced pork with Preserved Pickle
Just OK 2012-07-22

Zhao Yang Teochew Porridge ( Jurong East )

I tried this dish for the first time and fallen in love. I have since back a couple more times to order the same dish with others to go with plain porridge right here. The nicely sliced lean pork was stir-fried with shredded ginger together with those canned preserved pickle. Such combination is a match made in heaven. It tasted so perfect. The saltiness of the preserved pickle complemented the sliced pork with ginger and brought the flavour out of this dish. This is a must order dish to go with the porridge here.

Laksa with Otah
Just OK 2012-07-22

151 Katong Laksa ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )

I always think laksa goes well with otah. That is why i always ended up ordering an otah too whenever i ordered laksa from this stall. I have been wanting to ask the Auntie whether her stall used to be at serangoon garden as she seems so familiar. I remember eating at a certain katong laksa there a few times before it went disappeared. I ordered the smallest bowl of katong laksa for $3 with cockles added. I enjoyed the aromatic laksa taste infused with coconut milk to bring out the flavor. It did not taste as spicy as expected. The thick bee hoon was cooked nicely to the right texture with ingredients like prawns, fishcake and bean sprouts. It tasted enjoyable.

Chicken Cutlet
Just OK 2012-07-22

Jun's Western Specials ( West Coast )

Amongst the many muslim stalls in this food centre, there is this western food stall. I was there during lunch and there was quite a few people in front of this stall. It raised my level of curiousity so i decided to try it too. I ordered the fried chicken cutlet served with the usual baked beans, coleslaw and french fries. I could clearly taste that the chicken cutlet was nicely seasoned and fried well to give it a nice crispiness. Most importantly, it did not taste as oily as expected. Despite being fried, the chicken cutlet still retained its appealing tenderness and juiciness. This is a good choice for something different.

Chwee Kueh
Just OK 2012-07-22

Cheng Fa Chwee Kueh ( Jurong East )

After a not so satisfying lunch, i decided to have 4 pieces of chwee kueh for $1.00 as snack. The texture of chwee kueh was soft and moist. It served with the nicely fried aromatic preserved radish. This preserved radish is the star as it helps to bring out the flavor of these chwee kueh to the next level. The level of saltiness was just right as well. The chilli complement it perfectly too.

Ban Mian
Just OK 2012-07-22

The Same Ban Mian - 85°C Café ( Choa Chu Kang )

I am always here at this coffee shop near my mum's house for lunch. This handmade noodle stall is a regular stall for lunch. My usual order is ban mian for $3. A good portion of ban mian was served in clear tasting soup with no MSG detected. It served with usual ingredients like minced meat, vegetable and poached egg. A handful of ikan belis added just before served to enhance the flavor. This bowl of ban mian is a healthy alternative for lunch or dinner.

Curry Rice
Just OK 2012-07-22

Yi Jia Yuen Curry Rice ( Yishun )

I was there for late lunch. There was a few people at the stall so i decided to try it. The customer in front of me ordered 3 packets of rice to take away. He added fried chicken drumstick to each packet so i guess it must be good so i decided to order it too. I ordered curry vegetable, fried pork chop and fried chicken drumstick for $3.20. I asked for curry gravy to go with the rice. The taste of the curry was mild with minimum level of spiciness and it did not quite bring out the aromatic curry taste. The overall taste was just passable. The curry vegetable tasted a bit too hard to my liking. The fried chicken drumstick and fried pork chop tasted just normal. I doubt i am coming back.

Peanuts Pancake
Just OK 2012-07-22

Twenty 1st Century Chong Pang Guo Tai ( Yishun )

It is still the same signboard but this stall has stopped selling Lor Mee, Laksa and Mee Rebus. They are selling different type of pancake. Please refer to the picture of the stall. There are a few fillings to choose from: peanuts, coconut, red bean etc. I decided to go with this curry puff liking pancake for 0.80 cent each. The texture was soft and moist and it came with generous amount of finely grounded peanuts and sugar mixture. It is a good snack to go with coffee.

Pizza Bread
Just OK 2012-07-22

New City ( Yishun )

I happened to walk past this bakery and was told there is a promotion for their pizza bread. The offer price is at $3.00 instead of the usual $3.50. I decided to get one to go. I was asked to choose between the ham and the hotdog. I decided to go with ham. The standard is definitely not quite the same as the real pizza. It was a layer of ingredients like ham, pineapple and mushroom baked with cheese on french loaf. It tasted simple and acceptable. I brought it home to heat it up a bit to make it a little crispy and it tasted better this way.

Duck Rice Set
Just OK 2012-07-22

Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck - Chong Pang Market & Food Centre ( Yishun )

I was here with my partner for lunch. I ordered the braised duck rice set for $3. It came with quite a good portion of boneless duck meat with braised peanuts, braised tau kwa and half a braised egg. The rice was in dark color tasted of braised sauce. The braised duck was of the right texture. The tau kwa and the braised egg tasted just fine. The thick gooey braised sauce goes well with the rice. It came with a bowl of herbal-ish soup.

Roasted Duck Drumstick
Just OK 2012-07-22

Shun Fa Roasted Chicken & Duck Rice. Noodle - Berjaya Eating House ( Choa Chu Kang )

I bought a piece of roasted duck drumstick from the coffee shop near my mum's place for her. The drumstick was nicely sliced and quite big in size. It was nicely roasted to give the skin a slight crispiness. The meat within still tasted tender and juicy. Such a piece of drumstick is reasonably priced at $4.50. Both chilli and dark sauce were given to go with the drumstick.

Kaya Butter Toast
Smile 2012-07-22

Ya Kun Kaya Toast ( Ayer Rajah )

Ya Kun Kaya Toast has always been a great place for kaya toast and coffee decades ago. How many actually remember they started at the old market at Shenton Way a long time ago? This outlet has been a new hangout for coffee and good toasts since i chanced upon it not too long ago. Though there are many coffee outlets now but i still think Ya Kun serves the best kaya butter toast. The toasts are nicely toasted then applied a layer of their signature kaya then followed by the butter. I love how the butter melted in my mouth. The sweetness level of the Kaya is just right. It tasted even great if accompanied by their good quality coffee.
