Sweetened Bean Curd with Assorted Beans
Smile 2013-03-30

Eat at Taipei ( Jurong East )

Sitting at the restaurant overlooking the people skating at the Olympics size ice-skating rink is a pleasure in life.

Have already eaten dinner so only ordered desserts from here.

This dessert is similar to Blackball except that instead of using grass jelly as base, they uses the traditional beancurd. Do not expect the beancurd to be the silky type but the taro balls make up to it. It's good for the sweet tooth. Sweet and chewy.

Delicious Blackball
Smile 2013-02-24

BlackBall ( Dover )
My colleague is on the way back from Star Vista and she asked us if we wanted Blackball. We all ordered. There's 4 ways to enjoy this dessert, hot, cold, warm or icy. We choose the icy one so that it would remain cold even after she's back. Blackball is Taiwan's No. 1 grass jelly dessert chain and there's only like 3 outlets in Singapore so far. It's a healthy dessert as grass jelly is low in calories. It's a perfect combination of YamQ, Golden Sweet Potato, Yam balls, sweet potato balls, red bean and pearls. Must try.

Dessert on the eve of CNY
Smile 2013-02-24

Gelateria Italia ( Bugis )

Met up with my friends for reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year, it was about 10.30pm and a lot of shops were already closed. Luckily, we found this shop selling Italy Gelato ice-cream still open and there's seats for us too. So we made this our dessert for the night. They have some rather interesting flavors like Moscato and baileys. The Moscato and baileys are very mild so even kids can have it. Unlimited toppings are allowed but if you put too much, the ice-cream will be too sweet. So don't be greedy, take just the right amount. Enjoy.

Mid-Week dinner at Owl Cafe
Smile 2013-01-27

Owl Cafe ( Dover )

 Menu

   Teh

   Curry Chicken with Bread

   Kaya Butter Toast

OWL coffee is a household brand name and ever since they've opened a cafe called OWL Cafe at Star Vista, the curiosity in me tells me that I've got to try it. My friend who've eaten there also highly recommend this cafe. So, we arranged to have our dinner there on this mid-week Wednesday.

The OWL Cafe is a cozy place to hang out and their food are inspired by the culturally rich Straits Asian region. The cafe has got alfresco and air-conditioned seating to choose from. The moment we stood at the door, the attentive staff were already there to help us press open the automated door.

We ordered Curry Chicken with bread and kaya butter toast for sharing and I had a cup of teh. The teh (milk tea) has a strong and fragrant aroma. Tea lovers would love it. The curry chicken gravy is thick and rich with coconut milk and the meat is tender, it doesn't stick to the bones. Dip with the plain toast is another way to eat them. I also love their kaya butter toast and it's our sweet dessert. Will definitely bring my parents to try this cafe soon.

Weekend Hi-Tea Buffet
Smile 2013-01-27

Zhou's Kitchen ( Raffles Place )
Look no further for a quiet place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. Zhou Kitchen at Far East Square is the right choice. Ordering starts from 3pm to 5.15pm for their weekend hi-tea buffet. Each person only cost $16.80 and a minimum of 2 person to go.

They have a wide range of dishes for ordering. From the common Shrimp dumpling to the more unique crispy fish skin with spiced powder. One can order as much as you think you can eat but do take note that any excessive wastage will be
charged as the normal selling price of the item.

After ordering, the waitress will serve the dishes. The serving time is quite fast maybe also cause there's not much crowd at this outlet. Without any MRT, this place is quite inconvenient to go to.

After trying almost 85% of the dishes in the menu, the following is a few must-ordered item picked out by me.

Braised Corn Broth with Minced Chicken

Deep-fried Chicken marinated with Prawn Paste Sauce

   Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumpling

   Steamed BBQ Pork Bun

   Crispy Vegetarian Spring Roll

   Fried Buns

   Braised Homemade Beancurd with Vegetables

   Noodle

Soup is tasty and it got me craving for another bowl. Dumplings are pipping hot and same goes to the bun. Fried bun is my favourite even without any gravy to go with, I still like it very much. Need to order some green vegetables to let the tastebuds take a rest from the fried dishes. Not forgetting the yummy noodle to complete the meal. Will definitely go back to try other dishes.

Souperlicious Dinner
Smile 2013-01-19

espresSOUP ( Dover )
Chanced upon this restaurant at a little corner which is not very visible if we just walked the interior of the shopping mall. We were greeted by the friendly staff when entering.

 Menu

Saw that there was an opening special for a set meal at $9.90 that is available whole day and we ordered that.

   Root beer Float

   Jambalaya Chicken

   Chicken Wing

The set meal consist of Jambalaya Chicken, which is stir-fried chicken spaghetti in spicy, peppery gravy. The sauce is very unique and flavorful and they've added hot dog, baby tomatoes and some veggies as topping. The chicken wings turns out to be quite delicious too.

   Seafood Galore Bread

My set meal comes with a very small bowl of mushroom soup and I love it so much that I ordered an additional soup - Seafood Galore with their signature homemade Bread, freshly made without any form of preservatives for $16.30. You can also order it without the bread for $13.80. Now, comes the interesting part, the bread is actually like a "bowl" to contain the soup in the middle. Usually we would dip the bread in soup but this time round, as I drink the soup, I can eat the bread as well. Love this concept. For my Seafood Galore, it's simply cauliflower soup base with fish cubes, clams, crab meat and corn with a hint of turmeric. Indeed a feast in this "bowl" of thick soup!! Definitely worth the price.

 Shop Front

Overall, it's a nice experience. Highly recommend to try the yummy and healthy soup that are prepared and served without Pork, Lard or MSG.

Love the waffle with maple syrup
Smile 2012-12-17

Killiney Cafe ( City Hall )

   Waffle set

Killiney always reminds me of their coffee and breakfast set. It's quite amusing to find two half boiled eggs in a waffle set but that is what Killiney offers. The waffle with maple syrup is really yummy. If only they offers the whole big round of waffle cause I can't get enough of it. The service here is not that well. When the staff passed me the half boiled eggs, he did not passed me the pepper and soy sauce and I had to get it from another table.

Midnight Hunger Savior
Smile 2012-12-17

Xin Wang Hong Kong Café ( Clementi )
Cheers to Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe for extending their operating hours to 4am in the morning. Best thing is it's not open at West Coast Plaza, a 5 minutes drive away from home. Now, neither do I have to torture my stomach by staying hungry nor do I have to took the trouble to cook instant noodle.

 Voucher

Big thanks to Churp Churp for letting me win the $20 voucher. It comes in handy even though the condition is I have to use it after 12 am. It was just enough to cover my portion of the meal. When my bf and I arrived there like 1am+, we were rather surprised that the whole restaurant are still quite filled with people. It still has the lively atmosphere. The staff greeted us warmly too. We got a big round table sofa seats and I felt very comfortable there.

$8.80 Lunchean Meat Bee Hoon with Papaya Soup

I had their Luncheon Meat Bee Hoon with papaya soup and this is one dish that left me craving for more. I will definitely keep going back to Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe just for this dish. The Luncheon Meat are served on a separate plate so that it remains crispy and won't be soggy from the soup. Inside the bee hoon, chunks of papaya, sweet corns and egg were added to make it more flavourful. The soup itself really has the taste of papaya.

   $5.50 Shrimp Dumpling Soup

I shared the Shrimp Dumpling Soup with bf and this is another dish that I will recommend to friends. The shrimp is fresh and the soup is so tasty I finished the whole bowl of soup. I'm so glad I found a venue to cure my midnight hunger.

Dessert for the Afternoon
Smile 2012-12-16

Honeymoon Dessert ( Orchard )

$5.50 Mango in Vanilla Sauce with Thai Black Glutinous Rice

This is the first time I tried their Mango in Vanilla Sauce with Thai Black Glutinous Rice and I love it very much. Price was rather steep though, a small bowl of dessert for $5.50! shocked Next time I would just order the same item but without the mango and save $0.70 more. The mango is a bit sour and sting my tough with its sourness and I don't quite like dessert to be sour. The vanilla sauce actually acts like a replacement to the coconut milk that usually comes with the black glutinous rice and it matches really well too. There's some shaved vanilla ice too to make this a cold dessert.

Best Ayam Panggang in Campus
Smile 2012-12-10

Panggang - Munch ( Clementi )

   Ayam Panggang

With my brother's recommendation and having the most popular tip on Foursquare, I tried this Ayam Panggang set here at Munch. There was quite a long queue at this stall and portion was big. The sweet soy sauce with a bit of chili is just nice and not too spicy. The chili is not spicy enough but the curry compensate up for it. They even added baby tomato, lettuce and cucumber to make it a healthier choice.

Saizeriya Italian Restaurant ( River Valley )
Saizeriya is a Japanese chain of casual, family style Italian restaurant. Hidden at level 2 of Liang Court, one can find decent all time favourite dishes like soup, pastas and stews at a very affordable price. Although no service charge was imposed, we were still given quite good service by the waiters and waitress. Free flow drinks at $2.80 per head and for the drinks we have to serve ourselves at the drinks counter.

   Minestrone Soup at $2.90

I had Minestrone soup which looks kind of diluted but the taste is still flavorful. A country style vegetable soup so every spoon of the soup comes with crunchy vegetable.

Mushroom Meat Sauce Spaghetti at $5.90

For main course, I choose the Mushroom Meat Sauce Spaghetti. The special sauce used make the whole dish more tasty.

   Chicken Stew at $3.90

Chicken stew is a must order dish here. The sauce may be too strong so it's best to dip with bread.

   Oven Grilled Escargots at $5.90

Oven Girlled Escargots for only $5.90. Where else can you find this type of price?

I will definitely went back to eat again.

Handmade cupcake with love

Twelve Cupcakes ( Bugis )
Walked pass Bugis Junction and decided to buy this Red Velvet cupcake. I've seen many reviews and photos from friends on how nice the cupcakes are at Twelve Cupcakes. In case you didn't already know, Twelve Cupcakes is opened by the famous Jamie Teo and Daniel Ong.

   Red Velvet

First, I must comment that the cupcake here is extremely soft and moist. It's not the dry type and since it's red velvet, the cupcake has a nice dark red colouring. The choice to put a simple red small red heart instead of sprinkling lots of sprinkles make the whole cupcake more classic and elegant. The top is vanilla cream cheese. One such cupcake cost $3 and if you buy 3, they will put them in a box. Otherwise, it's just a transparent casing.

Traditional Butter-Cream Cake : Fairlady
Smile 2012-11-18

Polar Puffs & Cakes ( Clementi )
I went down to the Polar Puff & Cakes shop at Clementi Mall to order a 3KG cake for delivery. I was presently served by one of the lady who displayed great initiative. Firstly, I asked for butter cream cake, so she patiently advice me which are the butter cream cakes. The cake is supposed to be round in shape but she took the initiative to find out whether it could be made into a rectangular shaped so that it's easier to cut. I didn't even have to request for this. Specific timing to deliver the cake is also taken into consideration. On top of that, the lady also advice me to use Passion card to enjoy discount. All in all, I did not encounter any hiccups during the ordering of cakes lol

Traditional buttercream cake from Polar. Fairlady.

On the actual day itself, the delivery of cakes went on smoothly too despite the rain. It arrived within the stated timing.

   Fairlady from Polar lighted up!

The pretty cake with the candles lighted up. The white chocolate curls and pink roses gives the whole cake a very sweet and true to its name looks. The fluffy vanilla sponge cake with buttercream taste excellent. The cream is rich and slightly salty, it's so much better compared to fresh cream cakes.

Korean Cuisine with a Christmas feeling theme
Smile 2012-07-29

Manna Story ( Jurong East )

 Christmas theme waiting area

When I walked passed Manna Story, it did not occurred to me that this is a Korean Cuisine Restaurant. The two snowman at the waiting area, lots of snowflakes pasted on the wall and the restaurant name all gives a very Christmas season feeling that I thought it's a place for desserts or ice-creams. tongue

 Menu with a Christmas feel

Tables and chairs in sweet colours

Even the menu and the tables and chairs are of the same colour schemes. The light blue and white theme makes me feels comfortable and at home. Not only that, this restaurant also provides an excellent view of the Olympic-size ice skating rink downstairs.

Grape Juice and Shikhye at $2.50 each

Cute authentic can drinks from Korea! My can of Shikhye is a traditional Korean rice beverage and has a mild sweetness to it. It actually feels like drinking syrup water. There's also some grains of rice inside that one can bite.

   Side dishes

 Refillable side dishes

Wow, these are the side dishes that were served! I think I can get full just by eating the side dishes alone. The best thing about the side dishes in Manna Story is that they are all refillable once. So if I particularly like the Kimchi, I can take a big servings from the refill area myself.

   $13 Bimbimbap Pork

The main dish arrived. I ordered Bimbimbap pork. I always like how the Korean mix rice with a lots of toppings. There's meat, vegetables and egg all in a bowl so it's really a healthy dish. Although some of the toppings can also be found in the side dishes. I still enjoy my meal very much.

   $10 Topokki

Lastly is our Topokki for snacks. It taste starchy with some braised sauce. I don't really like it that much as it takes a while to chew it.

Colourful bite size rock candies

Sticky ( Jurong East )

When I was at JCube the other day, I joined in the big crowd as a curious bystander as I watched how the skilled confectioner hand made tons and tons of Sticky candies on the spot. It's really a fascinating process especially when the end products are tons and tons of beautiful candies with intricate designs.

I also love the graffiti on the walls that makes the whole place so lively and colorful. After standing a while, I can't help but also buy a bottle for myself.

Packed in a simple glass bottles, it's a joy to have it. Every pieces of candies inside is of different flavors and have different designs on it. I like that each time I pick one candy, it would be a surprise as I didn't know what flavor I have picked out from the bottle. Though it's called sticky, but fear not cause this sweet doesn't stick to your teeth and it's also not too sweet. The best gift for special occasions too as they are able to customized the wordings and pictures on the sweets.
