Toasty Good! OK Mar 23, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

Nestled at the heart of Orchard is the commonly heard ToastBox, which serves a variety of bread toasts that goes along well with a hot cuppa! Toastbox has many branches around the island and it is so common to see one of these nowadays. Located at Scape, the hangout of many youngsters, it's a great stopover for a tea break!

The otah toast is uniquely different. The order took a while to arrive with a piece of leaf atop the bread. The otah is rather spicy and it taste somewhat different from the conventional otah u buy to eat. It did not go very well with my taste buds though!

Tried the milo thick toast but sadly it fell below my expectations. Guess the bread was too thick and the milo powder was too little. The condensed milk was insufficient too. But I have to mention that their floss thick toast is superb!

Wash that all down with a cold cup of milk tea or yuan yang with pearls! However, their yuan yang is not as good compared to other places which serve yuan yang. Nevertheless, it is still a good place for a tea break after some heavy duty shopping around town!

Old School Bakery OK Mar 23, 2011

Categories : Teochew | Bakery

Nowadays, there are so many bakeries vying for a share of the market and everything is becoming increasingly commercialised. However, there are always those small old school bakeries which have been around for decades that serve pretty decent breads and cakes!

One such bakery is the Ng Kim Lee bakery located at Chun Tin Road. Don't discount it for its humble facade, they have been featured in the Sunday Times! They muffins are one of their signature items. Priced at 50 cents each, they have a variety of flavours such as walnut, chocolate, pandan and strawberry! Their muffins taste rather average for some flavours like strawberry and it tastes more of just fruit essence flavouring the muffin. But for the walnut one, you can taste bits of nuts in it!

They serve cakes too priced at $2-3 on average. Try their durian cake, it's rather decent and have their cheesecakes too which come in a variety of flavours such as blueberry and oreo!

Their simple breads are priced at less than a dollar and its also pretty good!

Midnight Cravings OK Mar 23, 2011
Categories : Noodles

Imagine a sudden craving for a good bowl of fishball mincemeat noodles in the wee hours of the morning! When all the shops are asleep and there you have it, EAT., the classic fishball and minced meat noodle shop that opens for 24 hours and serves pretty decent noodles!

EAT. have branches all over the island and I believe they are opening more around! When the shopping mall is all cool and quiet in the night at Jurong point, EAT. is alive with steamy soups and fresh noodles. Their minced meat noodles is slightly above average but I wish they would give more minced meat and ingredients. Do try out their fried items such as chicken wings and fishcake, they are really good too! Sinful to have such fried stuff in the night, but your tastebuds will love it!

So, head down to any EAT. to satisfy your craving today!

A good drink stall is important in every canteen, coffee shop, food court, hawker centre!

And in Technoedge, this one stop drinks and snack stall has a great variety of snacks and beverages!

They serve their special house made hainanese coffee, tea and serve even Japanese green tea dispensed from a large dispenser. Besides that, they do have ribena, milo and a soft drink dispenser as well. If you are looking for some canned or bottled soft drinks, their fridge is brimming with all sorts of cold drinks and they even have yoghurt and yoghurt drinks. Feeling hot and heaty? Have some herbal tea or barley too!

Their range of snacks will satisfy anyone. From fresh egg tarts to banana cake to sandwiches and curry puffs to doughnuts and the list goes on. They serve breads and biscuits and sometimes even fried beehoon! There, a one stop stall that gives you great variety at a great price!

Awesome Stall! The stall will also have special festive decorations for every occasion!

Fish Soup  OK Mar 21, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre | Seafood | Chinese Soup

Fish soup, the always healthier alternative for mealtimes.

Jin Hua Fish soup has been around for quite a long time. a little humble stall in Ghim Moh Hawker Centre, it serves rather good fish soup!

The fish is fresh and springy. And the soup is not overly salty. Some fish soups are overladen with salt and fried tau kee which make it unhealthy. However, this fish soup is easy on the taste buds and simple.

The elderly auntie is very pleasant and kind as well. You can opt for an additional serving of vegetables for 50 cents.
