Braised Duck Rice.
Cries 7 days ago
No Signboard Kway Chap ( Jalan Besar )

   Braised Duck Rice.

I came on a Monday to this food centre and some stalls were closed on that day. I left with limited choice so i decided to give this stall a go.

I ordered a plate of basic duck rice with a braised egg added for $4.50. The portion of braised duck given was quite a fair bit and it served with yam rice. The braised duck egg tasted pretty normal. The disappointment set in when i tried the braised duck meat. It tasted tough and dry though the yam rice tasted alright.

I really did not like it so i left it unfinished.

 The Stall.

Disappointing Fried Chicken.
Cries 2013-03-05
BBQ Chicken ( Ang Mo Kio )

   Fried Chicken in Olive Oil.

I have been wanting to try this highly raved fried chicken in olive oil. You could imagine how excited i was when i seated there, ordered and eagerly waiting to eat it for the first time. My first bite was quite a disappointment. The chicken pieces were rather crispy but it tasted bland. No taste. Did they not marinate it first before they deep fried it? Or they purposely seasoned it too lightly to make it a healthier choice? I was disappointed. This is not my kind of fried chicken.

The mashed potato was the instant version made from the potato flakes. It was another disappointment.

 The Menu.

I might try the other items on their menu but i will definitely skip their fried chicken in olive oil and mashed potato.

Walnut Dark Chocolate Cake - Not Recommended.
Cries 2013-02-13
Baker's Creations ( Yishun )

   Chocolate Walnut Cake.

   The box.

   The shop.

It was quite a challenge to locate the shop though it is just within walking distance from Khatib MRT. The exact location is just a few shops away from the coffee shop where my favourite tze cha stall - Happy Kampong is located. The shop space is shared with a shop selling different types of drinks and snacks. So, it might be an easy target to be missed out. The shop is manned by a Chinese speaking lady single-handedly. If you look carefully enough, there is a little signboard with 'Baker's Creation' printed on it at the top right hand corner right outside the shop.

I was there to collect the Walnut Dark Chocolate Cake that i ordered via email using an acquired voucher. It was a 1 kg dark chocolate cake that came coated with a layer of dark chocolate then topped with quite a few whole walnuts.

I was excited to cut it upon gotten home. Then, i realised the layer of chocolate was rather dry. It even cracked into pieces when i sliced it. After my first bite, it was a total disappointment. The chocolate tasted of artificial sweetness with only a slight chocolate taste. It did not have the bitterness that a dark chocolate should have. The texture of the sponge cake was equally dry.

I left the cake unfinished and discarded it. I guess this is most likely another one time off experience.

Chocolate Chips 'Cookie'
Cries 2012-06-28
Y2 Bakery ( Ang Mo Kio )
This is a giant chocolate chips 'cookie' for $1.00 from this bakery. It seemed to be value for money but the taste is quite a disappointment. The chocolate chips were only on the surface and none in the 'cookie' itself. It looked like a cookie but it did not taste like one. It tasted quite bland and the only taste is from the chocolate chips.

I left it unfinished.

Prawn Fritter.
Cries 2012-05-30
Snack Bar - Coffee Express 2000 ( Ang Mo Kio )
It was the last piece left on the display shelf and i decided to get it for snack in the afternoon. This piece of prawn fritter was in a pretty odd shaped with a piece of an average sized prawn on it. I paid 0.60 cents for such a piece.

The taste was a disappointment. It tasted nothing close to my favourite stall in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 that closed down quite a long while ago. The edge and that piece of prawn tasted a little hard. I expected to find bean sprouts within the fritter but there is no sight of it. It might taste quite differently if eaten hot but it was a disappointment when eaten cold.

I am interested to try their other snacks next time but would be happily to skip this.

Fried Yam Cake.

You Tiao - Liang Seng Huat Private Limited ( Ang Mo Kio )
This was a disappointing piece of fried yam cake.

I can clearly smelled a rather strong taste of rancid oil when i held it near my nose. My first bite proven it. There was absolutely no taste of yam in this piece of fried yam cake. Or, perhaps the taste have been covered by the strong rancid oil taste? This stall offers other snacks as well but i do not think i would be trying them.

Vegetarian Handmade Noodle.
Cries 2012-05-29
Vegetarian - Coffee Express 2000 ( Ang Mo Kio )
There is always a constant queue right in front of this stall during lunch and dinner time so my expectation is set a little higher. This stall offers vegetarian version of laksa, wanton noodle, fish ball noodle, handmade noodle, mee hoon kuey etc. I decided to try the vegetarian handmade noodle for the first time. The noodle is priced at $3.00.

The portion was quite little. It served with vegetarian version of fish ball, meat and veggie in mushroom stock. The noodle got a really strong flour taste and i could not quite appreciate the taste of vegetarian fish ball and meat. I gotta leave the noodle unfinished together with the vegetarian fish ball and meat.

It was a disappointing dinner.

Yun Tong 2000 Wu Xiang - Coffee Express 2000 ( Ang Mo Kio )
Another disappointment of the night.

I wanted something extra after the earlier disappointing experience. I decided to try this stall out for the first time. I ordered a piece of prawn fritter, a piece of ngor hiang, a piece of yam roll and a piece of spring roll for $4.00. All the items were re-fried before they served it. The prawn fritter has got a strong taste of flour. The ngor hiang did not taste too fresh. The spring roll tasted a little oily. The yam roll tasted just normal. The chilli sauce tasted fine though.

I am definite this is going to be the only experience.

Mee Goreng.
Cries 2012-05-29
Indian Food - Coffee Express 2000 ( Ang Mo Kio )
Perhaps i came at the wrong time, the taste of the Mee Goreng was quite a disappointment. I went during the dinner time, quite a few customers crowding in front of the stall either wanting to order or waiting for their orders. I waited for a bit to order and waited for a little while before i gotten it. Few of their customers including myself have ordered their Mee Goreng. It was fried together and served together to the few of us.

The noodle tasted a little overcooked with certain part tasted pretty hard. The 2 slices of cucumber served along with the noodle were cut in very big chunk.

It was a disappointing experience.

My experience with Double Down Burger.
Cries 2012-05-29
KFC ( Hougang )
The Double Down Burger is one of the newest creation by KFC. The concept of having 2 pieces of meat patties to replace buns seemed a little crazy but definitely interesting. I have never been a fan and have not been to KFC for a while but this crazy burger prompted me to give it a go.

When i was at Hougang Mall on a particular evening, i decided i should try it. A set with the burger, the drink and mashed potato is priced at $6.90. The chicken patties were quite a disappointment. It tasted soggy and quite oily. The turkey bacon sandwiched between the 2 patties did not taste quiet like a piece of bacon but towards the taste of ham. The cheese did not melt nicely and it ended up to be a little overwhelmed. The entire experience was a challenging one.

The conclusion has to be the Double Down Burger is definitely not for me.

Happy Lemon ( Orchard )
The first disappointment has to be the realisation that Happy Lemon is no longer serving their drinks in their signature cup with a happy face. I definitely missed having my drink in their happy cup.

And thanks to my adventurous mood, i decided to try the Green Tea with Rock Salt & Cheese for $3.50. I have gotta agree with the earlier review that the green tea was very much overwhelmed and overtook the taste of rock salt and cheese. It tasted more like the usual green tea with milk. The drink served with no topping by default.

I could not appreciate such a taste hence this would be an exclusive experience.

Homemade Herbal Tea.
Cries 2012-02-14
Beverages - Food Fare ( Ang Mo Kio )
This is a memorable dinning experience for me because i ordered this homemade herbal tea for the first time. I asked the Aunties on what does this homemade herbal tea taste like. I wanted to know whether would this taste bitter or not. She said it is more sweet than bitter with a little mint tea. It sounded nice so i decided to order it.

First sip. I did not like it. It did not have any herbal taste. It supposed to have a little mint taste as well but it does not taste like it. It tasted like the diluted sugar syrup with no distinctive taste. It tasted pretty bland other than a slight sweetness. A bad choice for me.

I might order other drinks but i would definitely skip this next time.

Braised pork's trotter.
Cries 2012-01-06
Wang Wang Claypot Bak Kut Teh ( Bukit Merah )
I was there on a raining afternoon after done with shopping at IKEA. I am looking to take away some foods for dinner at home later. This stall was amongst one of the stalls that still opening then.

I ordered from the Uncle for a portion of braised pork's trotter to take away. The Uncle didn't hear me correctly. He prepared a portion of the pig's organ soup instead. When it was presented to me by his assistant, i told her nicely that i ordered the braised pork's trotter and not the pig's organ soup. The Uncle overheard the conversation, he offered to change it. Such attitude of service is worth commending. I thanked the Uncle again when the assistant handed me my order.

When i gotten home and opened up the container then i realised what i had was not a complete part of the pork's trotter but bits and pieces of the meat and some skin. There was a very small egg and some broken pieces of tau kwa in it. The taste of the braised soup was overwhelmed with sweetness and not as fragrance as expected.

it seemed what they served to me was the last portion of what they had for the braised pork's trotter and to make the portion to seem a little more substantial, they added in the tau kwa and the braised egg.

I am definite this is going to be an one time off experience.

Polar Puffs & Cakes ( Ang Mo Kio )
I went to get a birthday cake for my Grandma's 83rd Birthday.

I wanted the Old Polar cake on the display shelf but i realised there was a thumb-sized dent right at the corner. I enquired whether they have another one. They tried to convince me to take that particular one as they left with just that. I was telling them about this thumb-sized dent but they denied it was due to pressing too hard during the process of handling that caused it. They kept insisting that it was part of the design work when applying the peanut coating.

I decided not to get that one. I will still have to get a cream sponge cake as grandparents did not enjoy those fanciful designed mousse cakes easily available in most of the bakeries. I was recommended with this particular vanilla cream cake. It looked alright at the first glance so i decided to get it.

I only realised this was not a perfect birthday cake when gotten it out from the box after the dinner. It did not even have a perfect round shaped which is the least of the expectation. At that particular part with the imperfect curve, the coating of white chocolate curls was falling off. When looked at it carefully, it has got a hole indented.

As a paying customer, i should deserved the best ever service offered to make my experience a perfect one. And this particular unpleasant incident is gonna chase me away and not returning.

It was a simple sponge cake with cream and it tasted a little too sweet to my liking.

A disappointment.

KFC ( City Hall )
After staying away from Kentucky Fried Chicken for quite a while, i have decided to give it another shot since there was an ongoing promotion. Apparently, I ended up feeling disappointed.

My 2 pieces of crispy chicken were miserably small. It might have looked acceptable in the picture but the skin and the flour basically made up the size, there was little meat underneath. My partner opted for the original chicken and it tasted much better. I suppose i should stick to original chicken from now if there is another visit.

The gravy for the mashed potato was totally disappointing as well. The taste simply out. It did not taste like i used to remember.

And, the egg tart was another disappointment. The crust was rather thick and the custard filling did not have any eggy taste.

I used to enjoy eating their chicken but not anymore

   A disappointing lunch.
