Padang Delights - Food Republic ( Somerset )
the nasi padang here is quite good with the large variety. however as it is precooked, the food is cold. only the rice is hot. did not find the rice to be good quality. it is definitely not hom mali or thai rice! the chilli kang kong is great! just the right level of spiciness - cooked traditional way. the chicken curry is very good too! the meat is soft and the curry was perfect. about $8. too expensive

Soup Guru - Food Republic ( Somerset )

chinese traditional soups. as i stood there looking at the menu, the staff barked at me, asking me what i wanted because they only have 3 soups on that day! all other soups were not available! how ridiculous. so i picked the pear and apple soup and yam rice. i have to say, the yam rice is very very good, if not one of the best sold in public places! there is real yam in there. the soup tasted good and was well balanced and not salty. however, there was hardly any meat or ribs or any ingredient in the soup at all! just all water! there are some chinese almonds floating on the top. tastes pretty good though. about $7!

great bubble tea
Smile 2012-10-20
A-Gan TEA ( Dhoby Ghaut )
one of the best bubble teas in singapore. love the white bubbles which are tapioca and not yoghurt! very perfect chewiness and no mushiness. the tea itself is very fragrant and very very good. just enough milk and sugar to make the drink complete. i could drink this all day! generous serving size. every drink quality is consistent. however, i haven't figured out how to put the straw into the cup without spilling drink everywhere. about $2.50

biryani
Smile 2012-10-20
Selera Rasa ( Geylang )
this stall doesn't open very much and when they do, they seem to sell out very quickly so we were lucky to have got a plate of the biryani. they mostly only sell biryani here. the chicken meat is big and generous and very nicely spiced. the plates are greasy and not very clean. the rice itself is very fragrant and good. although the rice is a bit too oily. best eaten with hot tea. about $5

nice soups

House of Soup ( Geylang )
traditional chinese soups here. all pretty reasonable prices. rice costs extra $0.50. not very fragrant rice is used. the soup has generous watercress in it. the pork ribs are meaty but there is only 1 or 2 small ribs in the soup. the soup tastes very good and not too salty. served in metal bowls. the service is fast and efficient. on certain days, they do not cook the full menu of soups. about $4 for this soup

nice indian
Smile 2012-10-20
North Indian - Fountain Food Terrace ( City Hall )
the indian food here is quite authentic. during lunch hours, the queue is super long. the rice is nicely cooked and flavourful. the vegetables are not too soft and are nicely spiced. the acar helps break the spiciness. the curry taste is great. overall, the dish is quite spicy compared to local indian foods. the staff is not exactly friendly. the food is pre-cooked so it can be cold when served.about $10

nice bak kut teh
Smile 2012-10-20
Bah Kut Teh - Fountain Food Terrace ( City Hall )
the bak kut teh here is quite nice! this is their specialty here. the soup is fragrant and the rice is nicely cooked without being soft or mushy. the bak kut teh is very flavourful and leaves you wanting more. the added whole garlic cloves in the soup is fantastic. this is obviously a soup that's been cooked for a long time. you can add braised boiled egg to your order for extra. By itself, the soup is great but wish there was more meat as there was only a couple of ribs in the soup and there was not much meat on the ribs! about $6 for a small serve

Crystal Jade Dining In ( Telok Blangah )
This place has lovely views of the water and on a clear day you can see Sentosa clearly. A colourful train carrying people goes around the place at intervals, adding to the atmosphere. Very nice place. Service is not very helpful or friendly, and can be arrogant.

The table setting is minimalist and only what is required. The standard wet towel is chargeable. There are also some sourish appetizers which are also standard chargeable items.

But food and views are great. Very clean place. Everything is neat and tidy. Nice decor. Definitely recommended for the decor, ambience, location. It is very easy to find and get to. The competitor Tung Lok is just next door! Wheelchairs and prams have to use a special entrance at the back. The entry into the restaurant is actually very narrow and small and has some steps.

We had Tie Guan Yin tea, which my companions commented that it was not fragrant enough to be like Tie Guan Yin. It was more like some kind of Chinese green tea. But it was good enough. They do not top up your hot water unless requested. Also, if you are already served your last dish, they will ignore you from then on, as they do not want you to sit there drinking tea only.

The baked honey char siew bun is very good. Wish there was more filling and not so much air! Love honey char siew and it is done nicely here. Soft and sweet. And moist, not dry. About $8

The baked egg tarts were pretty good and hot. However, my companions commented that the ones at Tung Lok were much better. The crust here is flaky and buttery. The egg is fragrant and rich. About $8

The salt and pepper fried tofu was nice too. Very salty of course. Not much pepper taste but there was red pepper flakes on it. Nice and soft. No real tofu taste though. Maybe it’s too salty to taste like anything else. About $10

The mango pomelo dessert is not bad but rather overpriced for such a small serve. It was sweet and fragrant. Overly sweet actually. about $8

Overall, it is recommended for ambience and food. The staff are quite organized but fixing the bill is slow and service during the meal was almost non-existent.

Killiney Kopitiam ( Orchard )
love the yellow curry here. you can even buy it home and make it yourself. but it's so good here. hot and fresh. and very fragrant. there is a large chicken leg in there and some potatoes and egg. the curry sauce is so wonderful you just have to drink it all eventhough it is so thick with chilli oil and other oils. very good with hardy crunchy bread to soak up all the gravy. quite spicy. about $6

very good buns!
Smile 2012-10-17
Momo's Mini Pau ( Geylang )
currently our favourite place for buns. the size is generous. the filling is very good and well balanced. not too sweet or salty. their char siew buns are very very good. there is hardly any fatty meat, and the sauce is great. not bright red and fake or dry. it is very moist. the pastry also holds up well to dampness and steam. service is very friendly and helpful. costs about $1.50

nice chee cheong fun
Smile 2012-10-17
Soon Huat Delights ( Geylang )
i like the chee cheong fun here because it is nice and thick and soft. not like some places which make it too soft or too thin and everything breaks apart. the one here is really thick, long, unbroken, chewy noodles. tasted hot and fresh. but it came out of some plastic bag which i saw them pull out of. the sesame on top is nice. the sauces are standard brown and chilli sauce. nice service. very reasonable price of $2 for a big box

vegetables from din tai fung
Smile 2012-10-02
Din Tai Fung ( Marina Bay )
the vegetables here are quite fresh and not too many holes. it's got a tasty sauce on top and slightly over salty. love the little flower heads of the vegetables. service is very slow and takes them a long time to bring the food to the table. but the food tasted pretty good. the furnishings and ambient is great too. they seem to be very busy even though they have a lot of staff. it is very hard to get someone's attention unless you wave some money around. cost about $10 for this dish

great taiyaki
Smile 2012-10-02
Mr. Obanyaki Pancake ( Orchard )
love the taiyaki here. quite firm pastry. holds the filling well. the filling is red bean original, which had some whole beans, which is good. reasonable pricing at around $2.50. they only start cooking when they open the store, so you have to wait about an hour before you can get one of these in your hand. best eaten hot. it held up to steam very well and did not go soggy.
