Chickroom pie Smile Aug 31, 2013

This is the Chicken and Mushroom Pie ($8.95++). The pie contains succulent chicken chunks and button mushrooms in cognac cream sauce. I liked that there was so much sauce in the pie. The filling was very satisfying. The pie was soft, buttery and thin. The gravy on the mash was delicious as well and really complemented the sauce that was in the pie too. I will return to try other pie flavours!

Marinara combo Smile Aug 31, 2013

At PastaMania, students get a 25% discount between 12pm and 5pm. I got the Seafood Marinara ($11.50) and a Combo B which includes a drink and a soup. The soup that they offered was Minestrone Soup. The Minestrone Soup is tangy and contains lots of vegetables. You will get a variety of veggies in every scoop. The Seafood Marinara Linguine came after a few minutes. It contained prawns, squid, fish and mussels. I like the linguine for its smoothness and its ability to "pick up" the sauce. Prawns were succulent and crunchy but the squid was a little too rubbery.

Mandu Hotpot OK Aug 27, 2013
Categories : Korean | Halal

Business was brisk at this restaurant on a Friday night. Almost all the tables were occupied and the staff were visibly busy. I was a party of 5 and only got my table after about a 15-min wait.

I ordered the Mandu Hotpot ($10.90 before GST). I think Mandu is korean for dumpling. The mandu here contains seafood filling instead of pork. It was very soft and mushy inside. You can choose between miso soup base or kimchi base. I opted for the kimchi soup base as can be seen from the picture. The hotpot consisted of tanghoon, cabbage, golden mushrooms and spring onions. I like the mandu but felt that the soup turned a little starchy after a while (probably due to the tang hoon). This set also comes with a bowl of rice and soup.

Duck kway teow OK Aug 27, 2013
Categories : Food Court

This Braised Duck Kway Teow ($3.50) comes with a few pieces of fishcake and some beansprouts. It can't be seen here due to the massive amount of gravy. Overall, this dish was alright but the amount of duck meat was rather measly. Furthermore, the duck slices were thin. Although the duck meat was soft, it was not satisfying. Business at this stall was brisk and service was fast.

honey milk tea Smile Aug 27, 2013

Although the craze for bubble tea has died down a lot, Gong Cha's business remains strong. The Gong Cha system requires you to order your drink first and collect it when the number on your receipt is being flashed on an LED screen. It resembles the system in a polyclinic. There are always people waiting around for their drinks in front of this GC outlet so expect to wait for a few minutes. I ordered the Honey Milk Tea ($2.90). For the honey milk tea, you can't choose your sugar level. The drink is creamy, smooth and the sweetness level is alright for me. This makes for a perfect beverage on a hot day!
