Mc Chicken
Smile 2011-10-22

McDonald's ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Nothing but a Mc Chicken to curb some supper cravings. Crispy skin garnished with some black pepper, the tender chicken burger goes along well with the mayo sauce. If you like chilli sauce, you should try mixing the mayo and chilli together to form a somewhat creamy chilli paste. The only thing I'll pick on is their lettuce, it looks so dehydrated. How I wished the vegetables were similar to the grilled one.

Carrot Cake
Just OK 2011-10-22

Fried Carrot Cake ( Bugis )
The long queue attracted me to this stall with me waiting for at least 10 minutes.
Worth the wait? I shall say that the carrot cake is of decent taste but it's really nothing to shout about. The kueh is not crispy but smells as good as one, the spring onions look like they have been at least 2 days old, not fresh at all. However, the amount given is humongous, fit for a king. The only thing is, sometimes, quantity does not equate quality.
A hit for those trying to fill their stomach but a fair miss otherwise

Bedok North 85 Fried Oysters ( Hougang )
Good food is good food and these are the reasons why :

-Generous portion for price
-Listens to requests attentively ( 1 lady ordered 3 packets of carrot cake 1 white with extra chilli, 1 black with chilli, 1 black with no spring onions and 2 packs of fried oyster omelettes 1 with less oysters while the other was normal )
Not too sure if they were all correct but the lady who ordered seemed like a regular customer as they chatted for brief moments
-Tasty yet subtle
-Well fried
-Piping hot

What else is there to ask for?

China Whampoa Home Made Noodle ( Balestier )
A one man show in the kitchen, this uncle relies on his young son to help him out at the stall while he does his cooking. The need for being hasty can be determined by the number of people in the queue.
The presentation of the food does not look much but trust me, it's very very worthwhile. Sit back and take sips of it's flavourful soup while indulging on the abalone strips. The sweet soup complements the thickness of it's noodles even though the minced pork's taste is ousted by the soup.
Though the dish looks slightly plain, the taste will definitely not deter you to think about a second bowl.

Mooncake
Smile 2011-10-21

Home's Favourite ( Joo Chiat )
Frankly speaking, I find the taste of this durian mooncake no different from the charcoal skin durian mooncake or the regular snowskin one. I got a snow skin top grade x. o. durian mooncake.
If you were to blindfold me, I would not have thought that this was any different from their normal D24 durian mooncake. Geez, even if you were to take off the blind fold, I'd feel the same way!
Nevertheless, this is best tasted 1.5 hours after taking out from the freezer. The texture is similar to those of durians, the smell is very distinct and most importantly, the snow skin is intact ( does not fall apart that easily after slicing).

Great!

Yong Tau Foo - Makan Place ( Clementi )
The thing I love about this stall is the price. At 40 cents a piece, it's quite a real steal compared to the ones available outside. There are many varieties available, vegetables, fried items and the usual fish balls, tofu, beancurds. Their fried yam is not to be missed!
Do not be fooled by the outlook of their chilli sauce. It is just slightly spicy, if you can take chilli sauce, this is nothing to you. Fresh ingredients at such affordable prices for students, no wonder a queue is always present!

Fish Soup
Just OK 2011-10-21

Ban Mian / Fish Soup - Makan Place ( Clementi )
Decided to go for some soup base dish as the weather's been rather cold.
I was hoping that with numerous orders from the queue, I would choose most frequently ordered dish, but there were mix orders of both noodles and rice.
The soup was not very tasty, though not saltish, the fish seems to be fried sometime ago and the layer of fried skin was very little. Those aside, the portions for the vegetables and anchovies were generous but sadly, not enough to make the soup heavenly. The chilli paste is rather watery as well, not spicy at all.

Drumlets
Smile 2011-10-20

Burger King ( City Hall )
Fancy some chicken drumlets at this burger joint? The spicy mexican drumlets will not let you down. Though oily, the fragrance of the drumlets and the tenderness of the chicken meat outweighs the sins. I personally think that this dish goes well with some barbeque sauce which adds on the the fiesty chicken's flavour

Donut
Smile 2011-10-20

Crystal Jade My Bread ( City Hall )
With so many stalls at Suntec City, it's still a chore to get food during lunch time with all the queues, even this bakery was rather squeezy.
Having chanced upon a donut, the size of it caught my eye. For the price I must say that it speaks well for itself. The cinnamon sugar is the real deal and the dough is fluffy too!

Yummy!
Smile 2011-10-19

Fishball Noodle (Kowloon Food Express @ Underwater World) ( Sentosa )
Given the location, I can't really blame the pricing but yet again, this is Koufu not a cafe.

That aside, this foodcourt serves like a Tza Char stall with menus given to tables upon being seated. The place is non airconditioned, so expect some houseflies.

The food was surprisingly well tasting. The gravy was similar to hor fun gravy, the vegetables were not very crunchy but the prawns were extremely fresh! The highlight of the dish was the crispy noodles; very crispy indeed. A must try if you are in for a satisfying meal.

Thickshake
Smile 2011-10-19

New Zealand Natural ( Orchard )
Though the stall's menu is somewhat on the pricey side, it's a much enjoyable one to chill out on. The Mint Choc Kisses Thickshake tastes best if you are planning to skip a meal' milk or ice cream shakes differ widely from this. As stated, this is a THICK shake and I must tell you, it is really really concentrated.
The option to choose full cream milk or skim is a plus!

Mudpie
Just OK 2011-10-19

Swensen's ( Toa Payoh )
Decided to give the sizzling pan a miss as it seemed somewhat too sinful for a dinner snack. I wished stuck to my initial plan...

The mudpie came identical to the one showed in the menu but the Hazelnut Cappuccino was such a let down. The mudpie, on an overall, was very dry. The top of the mudpie was layered with some caramel sauce on what I think was vanilla. Things got slightly better from the middle where the brownie was, down to the cappuccino flavour.

If you're looking for something moist, this is a miss for you. Sweet tooth lovers may find this to their liking but only go for it if you are bored of the same old menu.

Butterfly
Cries 2011-10-19

Min Beancurd ( Bugis )
The new kid on the block at Selegie Road, it's location is just beside the famous giant Rochor Beancurd. Rushing for time and yearning for something warm, I decided to snack on a Butterfly instead.
The outlook looks well presented but I wish I could say so for the taste. Despite the early hour, the butterfly was not even warm. It was rather tough to bite through and I must say, it's almost as tough as eating a cold french loaf.
Lots more to catch up to match up!

Bee Hoon
Smile 2011-10-19

Madina Muslim Food ( Little India )
A spicy dish indeed. Don't be fooled by the tandoori like colour, it's really rather spicy. The noodles are cooked so well, the bee hoon tastes so soft but yet not lose it's texture. Though the ingredients used are minimal, the dish is worth every cent. The only thing to be displeased at will be the meat. Minced mutton is fried along the bee hoon which blends in well but, their meat was a tad too dry. Otherwise, a very much well done dish!

Pisang
Just OK 2011-10-19

Nice Goreng Pisang & Snacks (Vegetarian) ( Little India )
A stall easily accessible from the bus stop, this is one of the few vegetarian snack stalls located at Tekka. With the many varieties available ranging from sweet potato fritter, tapioca, green bean, peanut sesame balls, youtiao, I went along with the goreng pisang.
A crispy outer layer, the banana was not ripe enough, making up a snack not worthy for sweet tooth lovers.
