Streats Hong Kong Café ( Jurong East )
Was here for a quick lunch. Order a claypot rice dish hoping for a steaming hot pot with delectable black sauce and savoury chicken but the dish turned out to be below par. Tasteless to exact. Couldn't resist not ordering the carrot cake in XO sauce because i'm a fan of carrot cakes. Alas, the XO sauce is more like 'XO" garnishing. A disappointment. What exactly they meant by XO sauce?? I've no idea but I do know that I've tasted better street food else where. mad

No Soup Pls
Just OK 2010-11-21

Swensen's ( Changi )
I'm a fan of Swenson's when it comes to the large servings of hearty american grub but it's disappointing that their soup is a total mess. Clam chowder soup is not served as hot as I'll like it to be and the worst thing is that the bread is super hard. Not very happy. That said, I think I'm better off sticking to the ice cream and 1-for-1 lunch treats. No more soup for me at Swenson's. tongue

Chinese Dessert :X
Just OK 2010-11-21

Ah Chew Desserts ( Bugis )
Chinese desserts will always come to mind whenever I'm at Bugis. I think there's a few shops selling Chinese desserts along Liang Seah Street. I would normally go for the one further down the street which has pictures of celebrities pasted on its glass window. But the bf wanted to go for Ah Chew so here we are. I had the mango sago with pomelo as usual. Thing is I was craving for something really cold but ah chew's mango dessert is not cold enough. And it is a tad too milky. Shall opt not to have the coconut milk next time.

I love Udon
Just OK 2010-11-19

Crystal Jade My Bread ( Bishan )
Feel like having noodles again so decided to try Crystal Jade's Black Pepper Chicken Udon dish. Not bad. The udon were al-dente. firm but not hard. Chicken was also ok. But somehow I just can't finish this dish although I was super hungry earlier on. Perhaps after awhile the sauce became a tad flat and heavy so my appetite turned for the worst. Guess I'm gonna try other dish next time. sad

Xian Ding Wei ( Jurong East )
Comfy place for lunch gathering but the food is just average. Had the Kung Bao chicken set meal that comes with a plate of side dishes comprising of some odd veg and 1/2 of a salted egg. I liked the soup though. it was those herbal type of soup. Anyway back to the chicken. Meat was in bite-size, so you don't choke yourself while babbling away over lunchtime with your colleagues. Sauce was just as you would have expected an average Kung Bao chicken dish to be. Not too spicy. Not must character. Perhaps that's where it went wrong.

Innocent-looking Corn Ramen
Just OK 2010-11-19

Ajisen Ramen ( Jurong East )
Indeed, the Corn Ramen is the most unassuming dish in the wide variety of ramen available at Ajisen BUT corn lovers can never resist the sweet allure of corn. That said, Ajisen should consider adding more corn and work on the noodles. Find that the noodles are a tad hard and tasteless. Broth was ok but definitely can be improved. Not asking for too much since Ajisen brand itself as a ramen joint, it has better buck up lest fickle customers flock over to the many other japanese restaurants mushrooming around the island tongue

Cheap and tasty

Hosoi Teppan-Yaki House ( City Hall )
Located neat the fountain of wealth, Hosoi seemed like a classy teppanyaki. Our chef was looking very professional with his tall hat. Anyway I got myself tge $28 seafood and meat combination set. Though the beef was ok in texture, honestly I couldn't really taste much of it because of the overwelming thick garlic/black pepper sauce the chef contaminated the beef with. How unappropriate. Maybe I should go Sakae Teppanyaki instead next time.

1-Caramel ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Tea time so it's time for cakes. If you are hanging around Dhoby Gaut, consider checking out this outlet right next to The Cathay. Just wanted to have a piece of cake and share a pot of tea with a girlfriend so we had the matcha sponge and azuki bean compote layer cake aka Midori. Soft texture and it's very light on the palate. Lovely for ladies who just want to munch on something in the afternoon after shopping therapy. Will come back to try the Maltesers Cheesecake next time.

Not Bad but Beware of Oily Utensils

Boneless Chicken Rice - Oasis FoodCourt ( Jurong East )
Personally i like my chicken tender and moist. That's exactly how this hawker stall serves their chicken. Drenched with fragrant sesame oil and accompanied by a large bowl of lotus peanut soup, I'm quite pleased with my plate of chicken rice. Unfortunately, the utensils were kinda oily and WET. OMG. seriously that's kinda gross. Hope they can up the cleanliness of the stall and utensils.

Soft Shell Crabbiatta
Just OK 2010-09-27

Pizza Hut ( Raffles Place )
Was here to try the Soft Shell Crabbiatta in Arrabbiata sauce. Arrabbiata sauce is a light marinara that is has an extra spicy flavor simply by adding hot peppers to the sauce. Pizza Hut’s latest offering has a piquant taste and is pretty delightful on my taste buds. I enjoyed the soft shell crab with the earthier, smoky sauce. No doubt that the Crabbiatta sauce is tangy and luscious but the pasta kinda lacked texture and was a little too soft. Nevertheless, it’s a quirky twist to how pasta should taste like. Just imagine Singapore chili crab cooked in the Italian way. NOT BAD smile

hotpot on a conveyor belt

Kichi Kichi Express Rotary Pot ( Little India )
It was fun sitting on a high chair, customising my individual hotpot! It was a fuss-free hotpot experience.Similar to those hotpot outlets at Bugis, Kichi Kichi offers the all-you-can-eat concept. Big difference is, you don’t have to walk at all! Perfect for lazy folks like me. No time was wasted.

My favourite ingredient was the Sliced Wagyu Beef, $5 from the Premium Items section! Was greedy and took too many plate of beef. Thanks goodness Hungry Cow was there to help chow down his fellow mates. Nope this cow is not feeling even a tiny tinge of guilt for munching on his own kind. Thanks moo moo for your pleasant company!

Beef! Before! Look at the lean cut and marble fat. I think the whiteness of the fat which contrasts with the red meat and forms a marble-like pattern is so pretty. What you think? Is there anyone here who don’t love beef?? It went really well with the sightly nutty Kichi Kichi sesame sauce!

Speaking of sauces, it’s heartening that Kichi Kichi recognizes the importance of dipping sauces in the Asian culture! They have actually have a variety of eight sauces to suit all tastes:Kichi Kichi Chilli Sauce, Chilli Padi with Vinegar, Japanese Soya Sauce, Kichi Kichi Sesame Sauce, Vinegar and Ginger, Chilli Padi & Soya Sauce, Hoi Sin and Chilli Chin Chalok

BTW Dessert lovers! YOU MUST order the Chocolate Hotpot with Cut Fruits ($5)! lol

Citibank discount!

O'Coffee Club ( Jurong East )
had a salad and soup for lunch and it's really tasty. Extra love for the ceaser salad's cheesy crust which doubled up as a bowl for the greens. Smoked salmon is ok and the greens were fresh/crunchy. smile Whatever space that's left in my tummy was filled to the brim with a bowl of seafood goodness. i could taste the ocean. chopstick Anyway point it, Coffee Club's soup is wayyyy better than the lumpy mushroom soup I had at Swensen's the other day. urgh. BTW good news for Citibank card holders! 15% discount! smile

Ebi Boshi Shotengai ( Bugis )
I love this place! bowl OMG it's not overly crowded on a public holiday and the ambiance was lovely like a japanese village. order the Hokke lunch set that cost about $11+. Totally worth it. The fish was excellently prepared and a squeeze of lime did the trick in making it extra appetising. Will definitely be back again to try out more unique authentic japanese offerings. smile

The rice noodles were QQ and the beef slices were also QQ! Nope. No strong beefy smell/taste smile Broth was clear, light and garnished with suan cai (Chinese sauerkraut). But for guys, you may wish to order extra noodles. My pal who are a bowl of this goodness was hungry again after 2 hours. Perfect dish when it is raining. smile

Springy Noodles with Good Soup
Smile 2010-11-19

Snackz It! ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Decided to get the minced pork and dumpling noodles instead of the oyster mee sua. Usually I will just get that dish or the chicken cutlet as those are the signature dishes. Anyway, I was delighted that the noodles went perfectly well with the generous serving of minced pork in savoury sauce. It wasn't too overwhelming. In fact, the dumpling soup paired the main dish very well indeed as refreshes my taste buds after every mouthful of noodles. smile Will be back for more.
