Chill out at Kazbar!

Kazbar ( Raffles Place )
In no overrated flattery, dining at Kazbar left a fairly deep impression on me. When stepping into the restaurant, the ambience easily transports you to a mood of anticipation for a promising dining experience through its chic, modern yet nostalgic and mesmerizing Middle Eastern setting and decor.

Being a novice at Middle Eastern cuisine, my ignorance of what to order was well taken care of when the staff recommended and planned the dinner course. For starters, I really had fun trying the Mixed Mezze Plate. It was made up of servings of hummus, moutabel, babaganoush, cheese borek and falafel. Like its charming names, each brought a different surprise with the variety of teasing flavors that quickly wets the tastebuds and opens up your appetite.

If you are a spinach lover or rather not a spinach lover, then the Kibbeh and Spinach Borek is a must try. The visual of the dish could almost fool you to think that it would be uninteresting. To my nose's surprise, it was greeted with the pleasant fragrance of the spinach which slowly dispersed when the borek was cut up. Like the next dish that was served, the texture, flavor and scent combined made the Tabbouleh Salad tasted so natural that it reminded me of fresh grass and the smell of the morning dew.

The Mixed Grill Plate, which should have been the highlight of the dinner, was less impressive in its flavor. The texture of the cubes of lamp chop, shish taouk, shish kebab and kofta made chewing quite a chore. This dish basically did not entice me to take more servings which I usually would when enjoying kebab at other restaurants. Personally, what redeemed this dish was the Lebanese red wine that was served as an accompaniment. There is a character and strength to this wine in its distinct but not overpowering smell and taste. This is not much of a description but I would really recommend trying this when patronizing Kazbar.

If finding a different place to chill with friends and colleagues is a challenge, then it is worth going down to enjoy the night out and be entertained by the whole dining experience at Kazbar.

Recommended alternative to boring caterers!

Orange Clove ( Kaki Bukit )
If you are tired of calling the same caterer for your functions, want something affordable yet desire quality standard, consider Orange Clove for a change!

I tried their $20 per pax buffet dinner and I must say the menu served was really more than satisfactory. It had a good range of main course to delightful desserts! What is really rare is that even their coffee and tea taste surprisingly good. People who tried the food mostly commented how pleased they were with the spread and will consider using them for their own functions. In fact, the buffet became a topic for conversation among the guests during the evening. There was quite a pretty touch to the setup and decoration which adds to the visual experience when enjoying their food.

What is really commendable is the staff and the service they provide from the ordering (reminder service through SMS) to the setup and removal. They were really attentive and very well-mannered throughout which will make it a hassle free experience for both the host and the guests.

In all, I would say Orange Clove is a pretty good choice to impress your guests! smile
