Panda Pau And Giant Panda Cappuccino
Smile 2012-12-29

Mama Panda Kitchen ( Mandai )

Other than visiting KaiKai and JiaJia, this is the second reasons of our visit to the Giant Panda Forest. I was first attracted to these cute panda food from two of my instagram friend's posts and although the Panda shaped like steamed bun is overrated for it's price it is so cute and irresistible from trying it.

   Giant Panda Cappuccino

Giant Panda Cappuccino (S$5.50) is equally cute as compared to the Panda Pau and it is a "must order" so that you could get a set of this adorable pandas to accompany you for breakfast or tea-break.

   Panda Pau

Panda Pau is shaped to look alike like a panda head and it is filled with sweet and fragrance red bean paste which similar to "steamed red bao (豆沙包)" but with an over-rated price of S$2.90 each or 4 for S$11.50. Although the items are pricey but yet you still can almost all the occupied tables are having at least one of this Panda Pau.

Char Siew and Sio Bak Rice
Smile 2011-05-07

Fu Shi Roasted Wanton Mee ( Sin Ming )

   Char Siew and Sio Bak

The boss of the stall was an ex-taxi driver who loves food and decided open a Char Siew and Sio Bak(Roasted Pork) stall for his passion and love on eating his favourite Char Siew and Sio Bak. The Char Siew at this stall is not those usual "Reddish Brown" coloured but rather light and natural in with a layer of honey glaze and tender and juicy meat. For me, I prefer their Sio Bak over Char Siew as I love it's crispy skin(on top) with the soft texture from the meat that infuse with a light fragrant of spices which makes it that goes well with white steamed rice.

Leong Hainanese Chicken Rice

Leong Hainanese Chicken Rice ( Sin Ming )

   Chicken Drumstick Rice

The chicken at this stall is so smooth and tender with juicy meat and springy bite that makes you keep eating it. Somehow the few of us who tried the chicken also agreed that it has indeed being cooked and properly chilled to achieve the firm and yet not oily skin. Other than our favourite drumstick portion, we also tried their skinless chicken breast, which I thought it might be just another plate of tough and tasteless chicken breast meat. But I was wrong, after trying a piece of it I was surprised on how soft and fragrant it taste.

Hakka Suan Pan Zi(abacus seeds)
Just OK 2011-05-07

Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies ( Sin Ming )

 Hakka Abacus Seeds (Yam Balls)

Overall the texture of the abacus seeds was soft and fragrant but on the down side it was slightly toward the salty side and was quite oily which makes it a bit greasy for our liking. Other than Abacus Seeds, this stall also sells Hakka Style Mushroom Soon Kueh, Steamed Yam Cake, Glutinous Rice, Yam Porridge, Chee Cheong Fun and etc. Perhaps next round can their yam cake and soon kueh.

Chocolat N' Spice ( Sin Ming )

   Assorted Muffins

Upon stepping into Shunfu Mart a few days ago, we spotted "Chocolat N’ Spice" outlet near the entrance, facing the bus-stop. As when you walk nearer to the stall you will be perfumed by the fragrant of those freshly baked muffins. The muffins from Chocolat N’ Spice’s are incredibly moist, soft, fragrant and most importantly it is not too sweet which makes it a healthy choice for everyone in the family.

Over at the stall they have around 13 different kinds of muffins(such as Double Chocolate, Cheese, Carrot, Orange Peel, Mocha, Blueberry and etc) ranging from S$1.20 to S$1.50 depending on your choice.

Lao Fu Zi Char Kway Teow - 老夫子炒粿条
Just OK 2011-04-30

Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow ( Geylang )

Talk about Char Kway Teow, I am sure most of us will have a preference stall that fried the most tasty kway teow that you always frequent. If you have being to Old Airport Road Food Center, you would have heard about this well-known Char Kway Teow stall known as Lao Fu Zi Char Kway Teow (老夫子炒粿条) located at #01-12.

Personally I don’t really find their fried kway teow any usual except it is a bit towards the sweet side with average taste that somehow or rather lack of wok fragrance. But surprisingly it is always pack with queue during meal hours. So I guess perhaps it might be that extra “Fried Lard” that draws customers’ attention towards this stall.

Hong Kong Street Cze Char
Smile 2010-10-13

Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee ( Yishun )
Having dinner at one of the Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee Cze Char branches near my area and I was surprised by to see some unique dishes that they served. From a banner outside their stall at the Coffee Shop, they are also one of the recommended stalls from the Channel 8 Food Show known as “Sizzling Wok - 煮炒来咯”.

Above are the 3 items that we have tried from the recommended dishes list:-

1. Sum Lo Hor Fun -三捞河分 which we think can be better because all the rice noodles seems to be bundle together rather than loosely fried. But overall the taste is still good with that slightly burnt wok taste.

2. Golden Dragon Beancurd -金龙豆腐 is a must try. As you can see from the photo, this chef recommended tofu is of multi-colour that used vegetable such as spinach and carrot to blend with soya milk and steam it layer by layer to achieve those colourful layer. The tofu is steamed, cut into cubes, deep-fried and top with floss and mayonnaise. Very unique and appetizing starter.

3. Mongolian Pork Ribs -蒙古排骨 although it might not good appetizing due to it’s colour but it has a very special taste with the combination of curry leave, black pepper and mayonnaise. It is a good change to have this rather than the usual sweet and sour pork or jin du pai gu.

Sakae Unagi October
Just OK 2010-10-13

Sakae Sushi ( Sembawang )
Since July 2010, Sakae sushi has this monthly theme promotion for it’s new dishes. And this month October theme is using “Unagi” where they launch 5 new items using it. So as a regular customer of Sakae, I went and tried their “Unagi Sushi Cake” and “Unagi Cheesy Kushlyaki”.

The Unagi Sushi Cake that cost S$5.99 per plate comes with a few slices of unagi on top of the rice cake together with some diced mango, avocado and a little spoonful of fish roes. Although the portion might be a bit bigger for a mouthful bite but I am sure this is a healthy dish with all the goodness from the fish and fresh fruits.

But on the other hand, Unagi Cheesy Kushlyaki is quite a disappointment because the deep-fried bread is so soggy with oil that it makes the appetizer dish so oily for consuming. Guess it is either over fried or the staffs has to soak up all the oil before serving to the customer.

Free Onion Ring With Chicken Set Meals
Smile 2010-10-12

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen ( Ang Mo Kio )
Last weekend, we pop over to one of the Popeyes Chicken outlet at Jubilee Entertainment Centre, Ang Mo Kio. While queuing for the orders, I was attracted to the poster at the counter showing “Free Onion Rings” with any purchase of two Chicken Set Meal. So instead of getting a burger set with a chicken meal I decided to forgo the burger and swap it with two chicken meals for the sake of our favourite Onion Rings. tongue

This is our first time trying out their Onion Ring and we love it just as much as we love their Cajun Fries. The outer coating of the rings are so crispy and fragrant which brings back some of our memories on the famous A&W Onion Rings that we used to eat.

For my Chicken Meal Set, I choose their "3 pieces Chicken Tenders" instead of deep-fried chicken pieces. When I tried a piece of it, I was surprised with it crispy outer layer and tender juice fillet as to compare with some other fast food outlet that I have tried that is sometimes either overcooked, too dry or tough.

So Popeyes Chicken lovers, go gather some of your friends or buddies and get your free Onion Rings upon purchase of two chicken set meal today, promotion while stock last.

Soup Broth Asia - Herbal Chicken Soup
Smile 2010-10-12

Soup Broth Asia ( City Hall )
Talking about Soup! I am a Soup craze especially Asian type of double-boiled soup. I am sure most of you have heard or even try those delicious western soups from “The Soup Spoon”. And for your information, Chef Anna Lim have concocted 12 different types of Asian Hearty Soup such as “Herbal Chicken”, “Chicken Daikon Leek”, “Hainanese Beef”, “Seafood Tom Yam” and etc for soup lover to enjoy a pot of tasty comfortable soup at a affordable price.

I have ordered the “Herbal Chicken Soup” with Yam Rice. But actually each pot of soup comes with a bowl of complimentary steam white rice or for your preference you can also add extra S$1.00 to exchange it with either fried rice or yam rice. And since we are sharing, I took up the S$4.80 top-up for set meal that includes a drink (either hot green tea or ice-lemon tea) and 3 side dishes (select one from category of Appetizer, Meat and Vegetable)

Their Herbal chicken soup is very usual compared to those that we have tried from local Chinese restaurant. Imagine spotting some deep-fried dumplings and fresh watercress in your herbal chicken soup? Does this sound interesting! I am sure there are a lot more interesting combination or taste waiting for you to explore at their outlet. Do give Asian soup a try if you love their western soup at “The Soup Spoon”.

KFC Roasta Burger

KFC ( Yishun )
Last week I was captured by a poster outside one of the KFC outlet near my area and while sharing with my twitter friends they also recommend me this new burger from KFC. And since I cannot resists the temptation on what they have shared, I decided to drop by one of their outlet and grab a set too. The Roasta Burger comes in two different value meal set at:-

Roasta Promo Meal: S$5.90 (comes with Burger, regular pepsi and whipped potato)
Roasta Meal: S$6.80 (comes with Burger, regular pepsi, whipped potato and coleslaw)

After unwrapping the wrapper you find this juicy grilled chicken fillet being sandwich in between the soft oat bran dusted bun together with lots of fresh crunchy lettuce strips and tomato slices. And if you want to have a healthier choice, order it without any sauce. Although this Roasta Burger is not something fantastic in taste but at least it can be another alternative choice for KFC lover to have more choices when ordering.

The Charm Of Award-Winning Chicken Rice
Smile 2010-10-05

Chatterbox ( Orchard )
Recently there is this “Late Lunch” promotion on Chatterbox, Mandarin Hotel which is a quite a good bargain for patrons to enjoy their signature Mandarin Chicken Rice and other local delights at S$15++ from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays only (excluding eve and day of public holidays).

From my opinion, the “rice” could have been better as it is not as fragrant or fantastic as I thought it would be. But rather the chicken was tender and juicy, and it goes very well with their chilli and ginger sauce.

Surprisingly the broth of the Seafood Laksa taste great with a hint of heat that isn’t too spicy and it will leave you to crave for more scooping of it. A bowl of this also cost S$15.00 as main course in the promotion menu.

With an additional top up of S$3.00 you can enjoy a jar of either one of these homemade Soya Bean Milk, Barley Water or Grass Jelly drink to along with your meal too.

Ochado Chanodo (茶の道)
Smile 2010-09-28

Ochado ( Yishun )
Ochado is located in the North area, which sometime might be considered as an inconvenient area for most people. Despite the location, this store actual provides quite a number of decent flavour tea that are in line with the two popular bubble tea stores which is KOI and Gong Cha. For your information, the shop is just about 2 bus stops away from Yishun Mrt station, and you can easily spot it with its outstanding green and black furnishing outlook too.

Out the all the drinks that they have in the store, I would like to recommend these few which I personally find them special and worth trying:-

1. OchaDo's Lemonade - 招牌鲜桔茶 which is also known as “Ladies tea” is a mixture of green tea with freshly squeeze lime juice and top with preserved sour plum (话梅). Great cooling drinks to quench thirst on hot afternoon or after a heavy meal to wash down all the greasy food.

2. Roasted Tea with Azuki Beans and Pearls - 珍珠红豆烤奶 use roasted tea leaves to brew into roasted milk tea that served together with two different toppings such as azuki beans and pearls. I love the combination of azuki bean and pearls where the sweetness of the beans blends well with the mild taste of the pearls.

3. Pop Eggs Milk Tea - 魔力爆蛋奶茶 which from a glance you might mistaken the topping as pearls because they are quite similar on appearance and size. But when you get to try them, you will be surprised! These little “eggs” are actually from Japan and they will burst out with some coffee liquid when bites so it a good choice for coffee and tea lovers.

Rochor Beancurd House ( Upper Thomson )
If there is a chance, we will always drop by to the nearest outlet at Upper Thomson to satisfy our craving on their smooth and silky Beancurd. You can easily spot this outlet with it huge blue signboard hanging on top of their shophouse along Upper Thomson road.

You can either choose from original taste that is served with sugar syrup or add on to some of your desire toppings such as pearls, lotus seeds, glass jelly and etc. Their beancurd is so smooth and delicate that it melts in your mouth when you put in. But if you find it too sweet, you can always ask for less sugar or no sugar then add a bit of soy milk to have both soy milk and beancurd in a bowl.

Other than their famous beancurd and soy milk, you might want to try some of their local snacks and kueh such as You Tiao, Portuguese egg tarts, Crystal bun and etc too.
