BAK Kut Teh great for rainy weather

Ah Seng Bak Kut Teh ( Bugis )

WHAT?! So affordable?!! That's my frens and my reaction when we went to eat this delicious free soup-refill bak kut teh which was near our youth church in Shine auditorium... each bowl cost about $5, AND WHAT'S MORE IT'S SOOO NEAR BUGIS, so it's like you know how youths always complain about how expensive the food is over there~~~ but it's not true, YOU JUST GOT TO HUNT for the good food! THE SERVICE is excellent, we always thought okay you know they talk about how nasty ah tiongs are but it's not true. They're always asking if we needed refill, ask us to take our time to choose from the menu, and there's free you tiao as well! YAY!

For here or to go?

Starbucks ( Holland )

Got a tall cup of cappuccino for $5.50 and a cookie cream cheesecake for $6.50! THE CAKE WAS really delicious, it wasn't too thick or too moist, you know sometimes they have water condensation on the cake and it tastes really strange? I guess the cake was really really fresh! They didn't offer me any spoon for the cup of cappuccino, so rmember to ask.. and even if they do, it's a plastic spoon. aren't you supposed to eat or bite the froth for cappuccino? the staff wasn't very friendly when i asked if there was any spoon. sad

Mediterranean Cuisine

Fig & Olive ( Boon Lay )
Flip the menu and the first page you see would be a boast of how healthy a Mediterranean diet is. set on the table would be a jar of olive oil, some pepper and salt...

While we waited for my brother to arrive, we ordered a Hummus, which was basically bread and cheese! It cost $7.90, and although there were 3 of us we gobbled it up pretty quickly. The portion wasn't enough!

   Hummus

That's Hummus.

   $88.90

so when my bro arrived, we ordered a giant plate of lamb, prawns, fish, chicken for $88.90. If you are a fan of fig & olive, you'll get 20% off. it's really worth it, we all felt really full because there was also pineapple rice. the plate was soooo huge, so sit on the big table. try to avoid sitting at the side nearer to swensens because apparently swensens placed their rubbish bin there and whenever they open the cabinet it STINKS LIKE CRAZY. there's also free water so you don't really need to order drinks!

One of the best 'zu cao' around

Sin Ma Thai Asian Food - Broadway ( Dover )

Spot the long queue in the evening, Sin Ma serves quality food that deserves compliments.

   Mongolian Chicken

This is the famous mongolian chicken, dipped and marinate in special sweet sauce.. According to my dad, they purposely shift the meat up to the top of the drumlets, and it is really delicious, not like the normal chicken that you'd usually eat (honey chicken etc.).

   Fish Hor Fun

We also ordered hor fun, which is too much in portion. There were ample prawns and they were very fresh, the vegetable was quite bitter though... I think they hsould wash the vegetables more cleanly because I had this strange feeling that it's not very clean or fresh.

   crispy noodle

Mum ate crispy onodle, which of course not as crispy when it's soaked in the gravy! I'd highly recommend the chicken!

Impromptu visit
Just OK 2013-02-04
Morganfield's ( Dover )
After church service at the Star, my mother and I just had to impromptu-ly visit any restaurant.

So apparently we heard Morganfield's were really good, so we deicded to try. ANd mind mind, the environment is really friendly... shabby... erm, indescribable sort of atmosphere. The chill-out kind.

We ordered the usual.. a shack of BBQ pork ribs tobe shared among both of us. Honestly the portion isn't enough because the food was just excellent, super delicious! The meat just kind of melts in your mouth. It reminds me of the lamb shack that i ate in sydney (it's super popular over there, you've gotta make reservations).. so i'm quite glad that i get to taste something similar in singapore!

too much meat is no good, so we also ordered a plate of salad... apparently it's so dry, and twe asked for sauceslike thousand island sauce or mayo but they don't have anything *surprise surprise*. the staff was friendly and helpful though smile

Thanking OpenRice!
Smile 2013-02-04
The Rotisserie ( Dover )
It was such a great pleasure to be part of the OpenRice's organized gathering, meeting the marketing team and the openricers behind this wonderful food review site! (:

There were such an extensive variety of menu items in The Rotisserie that it's difficult to recollect what we actually ordered, and all the breakfast looks equally romantic and delicious!
One of the OpenRicers ordered a veg sandwich, don't despise it's small-looking portion because it is in fact quite filling!

I ordered a Salmon Bagel, and mind mind, they've took time to place it really nicely in layers.

There's onions as well in the smoked salmon bagel. And I was so surprised that the dough used for the bread was SOOO tough I felt like I was eating a rock.

THe salmon was really delicious though! And I really enjoyed my time with the great company and the staff who warmly helped us.

One of the openricers ordered a latte and got this wonderful design on her froth, the rest of us only had paper cups which I thought was quite wasteful since we're supposed to be kind to the environment..

The restaurant was quite packed on a saturday morning, and i believe most of them are actually tourists since it's a hotel right beside us.

I really love the yellow lightings and the layout that have been given some careful thought, there doesn't seem to be any particular theme of this restaurant which makes it so unique and standing out in its' creativity because they've set a whole new style altogether!

Awesome food for giant eaters
Smile 2013-02-04
Watami ( Dover )
BEWARE all you petite fellow Singaporeans and tourists seeking for Japanese food! Watami offers giant portions thus if you're a small eater like me, sharing is caring (and saving money)

Apparently, they offer a 150g portion of chicken katsu. I have no idea why they put the grams over there, it's not like as if we have a weighing machine to check if it's really 150g! AND GUESS WHAT? It costs $11.80! There is no rice provided, so you have to order an additional bowl of rice for $1.40.

So yes, it's put in a hot claypot with lots of eggs and sauce.. delicious stuff which melts in your mouth!

An overview of how the chicken looks like, anyway my two friends shared among themselves and it was sufficient (for the rest of us to try tasting it as well).

There's also a "watami ramen" branded by their very own restaurant signature, costing $12.80. A clear soup base with flavours that I cannot make up of, and it was also a very huge portion of noodles.

I ordered a plate of Beef Pepper rice and thought it was really delicious! My friends said that it's similar to Pepper Lunch but I beg to differ, because the rice are so much more Japanese-like, and the beef is so much more fresher.

The beef pepper rice costs $9.80, and although in comparison to pepper lunch it's slightly more expensive (without the drinks and all), but at least we don't reek of beefy smell after leaving the restaurant!

Please don't try the Matcha tiramisu if you don't like cheese, i'm quite surprised that they'd put in cheese rather than coffee.. and apparently green tea and cheese don't really go well together, we got quite sick of it. It's only $4.80, quite affordable!

We also ordered a Matcha Parfait, topped with all sorts of fruits like longan and stuff, this is really a must-try dessert because there are layers of cream, chocolate, green tea and almost everything I could find. It costs $6.80 and you can share it among 4 people!

I also like to particularly point out a very good waiter named Sunny, He's very warm in taking our orders and my friends and I saw him going down on one knee at the customer's level just to take their orders. He's always cheerful and smiling and is willing to go the extra mile to serve his customers. He also helps to clear plates and all, whereas his colleague, a lady with long curly hair, always stood at the counter pretending to check orders... there will be a feedback form in the end for you to voluntarily fill up!

RED light
Smile 2013-02-03
Lee's Taiwanese ( Dover )
i have no idea why the photos are so red, i mean yes the shop lightings are super red but i took a look at other people's reviews of the store and the color seemed okay.

Lee's taiwanese tried to make themselves taiwanese looking although i felt like iw as inShanghai, they also provided free tissue paper like how it's experienced in taiwan.

We ordered 3 bowls of braised mince pork rice for a total cost of $12... which means 1 bowl of rice is $4.00.
It was really delicious, although non-comparable to the actual taiwan cuisine, BUT I would say it would be one of the best standards in Singapore. The portion was just right as well.

We also ordered a set of Salt and Pepper Chicken for $6.90. It's really crispy, although deep fried it's not the least bit oily. It was sufficient to be shared within four people... pardon me for the extremely red lighting, it honestly doesn't look like that.

The century egg tofu ($5.80) iS A MUST BUY.... it's like Japanese' cold ageshi tofu, but this is Taiwan-style and I feel so good eating the soft, filmsy, tofu!

A bowl of Taiwan beef noodles cost $12, and you'll get easily sick of it so it's best to share among two people because of the gooey sauce. Tasted delicious for the first half of the meal!

The noodles are finely beaten and at a perfect length, not too long or thick in width. There were an ample amount of ingredients as well.

We also ordered a mango crushed ice for $8.90. I don't recommend this unless you are a highly sweet-tooth fan. My family loves it very much but I was in disgust because of the extreme sweetness.... so I just ate much ice with a little bit of mango sauce.

Oh yes, you have to pay for the water too. We spent a total of $65.90 for 4 people!

PastaMania ( Ayer Rajah )
One-north pastamania is my no.1 favourite outlet in Singapore! You know the standards in Pasta varies according to the restaurant? I believe one-north really puts in effort in making the best pasta because their chef must be very good and also there are very few people patronizing even though it's just right above the MRT station.

It's very delicious!!! I always thought that you must have a higher turnover to have a good meal (take KFC and all those fast-food restaurants for example), but apparently not so for Pasta mania!

You can sit as long as you like and have a good chat with your foodie buddy (in this case here my mother) without having to consciously think that you'll be chased away.

Look at the sumptuous breakfast!!! They've been quite extravagant in their portions and it's piping hot and delicious. Eat quickly though, because the aircon is quite cold and cools the food rather quickly. It costs less than $10, I believe it's about $6.90-$7.90 est.

I love the pancakes!! Definitely will eat again. It costs about $6.50!

A good place to take pictures with your friends.. look 'atas' (luxurious) eh?

More ambience shots..

And the maple syrup makes my day smile

Smelly Tofu
Just OK 2013-02-03
Mini Star Fermented Beancurd ( Geylang )
The one adn only smelly tofu shop left in Singapore.

Not as good as those that you find in Taiwan, but yeah.. there's no standard to compete against here in Singapore due to little competition.

Be greeted with the wonderful smell of smelyl tofu, i REALLY can't understand why people don't love this delicious crispy tofu that's super juicy and it has this unexplainable taste in the sauce..

the lightings made me want to sleep, the shop's very old and traditional.

we also ordered a bowl of porridge to be shared among 3 people

and this pig intestine is crispy and cooked differently (deep fried)

what's inside the tofu??? Looks like a lot of 'airy' pacs so it's not really filling! two pieces of tofu = $4. :'( that's quite expensive!!!

Hans Cafe & Cake House ( Holland )
These are Han's special menu items...

What a small portion of meat, was my first thought. With the raw vegetables, really really raw vegetables, i don't know how to describe it.

And then suddenly there's so much potato wedges!

Look at the abundange of potato wedges. Anyway, I don't really enjoy Hans meal because of the unbalanced quantity! It's not really fresh too and their service ist errible (you've got to go collect your own food at the meal counter) and they'll always give you that kind of stare when you wait for the food AT the counter... with grumpy faces. I don't like the lightings of the restaurant as well!

Eat like a japanese

AJInoMORI ( Holland )
There are variety ways of where you can sit; my friends and I decided to choose the ones where we had to take off our footwear. There is this raised platform where one can simply sit on a sort of wooden kind of floor, looks like Japanese-style but not really so.

   Chicken Rice bowl

I ordered chicken with rice, about $14.90, and it was really delicious! The portion is so huge you can actually share with a friend, I had to take away because there was really a lot of leftover.

The sushi was fresh and chunky! A mixed variety of sushi available, you can go through with the friendly waitors over there.

My friend ate this tom yum kim chi thingy which we were rendered clueless because we thought it was from korea, but why is it part of the japanese restaurant meal? Anyway, the soup was really deliciious!!!

Heng Ji Chicken Rice ( Chinatown )
Almost everyone knows Heng Ji Chicken rice, it's been there EVER SINCE i was born (i suppose).

Tender chicken, juicy, sweet and fresh... this white meat enables you to almost gobble down one whole plate for yourself.

   Chicken

A plate of chicken rice always bonds a family together, it's something every singaporean family would have ate together in common!

   chicken rice

The rice is quite small in portion, so don't be surprised if most people order two portions/bowls.

   rice

   sauce

The sauce is really great, you should ask for more. It suits both chicken and the rice!

Nana Homemade Curry ( Dover )
This shop specializes in CURRY, home-made curry, and it's really super delicious! You can order all sorts of curry in all kinds of meat - chicken, pork, fish~
[VDO:4]

My parents and I ordered the fish-head curry around evening and it came in a piping hot clay pot!

It was really delicious with an abundance of fish~

The portion of rice was really huge too, i guess it's because it was evening and the place is not very accessible (about 10 mins walk from MRT). since it's a small estate so i don't think they have a lot of customers even though they've got really good curry!

the uncle and auntie store-holder is really friendly as well smile

Siong Kee Fish Ball Minced Pork Noodles ( Dover )

A generous portion of noodles, rarely crowded even in peak hours! Sometimes they put in lark, but usually they wouldn't. The cook is extremely friendly, makes you feel like eating the same thing everyday! Quite affordable too, about $2.50 ~ $3 depending on how much portion you want! I love the variety that they'd include in, the fishball is fresh and try their special chilli sauce!
