Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao ( Holland )
This is a restaurant that I love having my xiao long bao and la mian at, besides Din Tai Fung.

I ordered the pan fried version of the xiao long bao. The outside skin is made of flour, like ordinary pao, but the fillings inside also contain the same type and amount of soup and juicy minced pork meat.

I also ordered the Chinese pancake, turned out to taste like crumpled roti prata, something new and strange, but I like it. It was served in a basket.

Drinks - Koufu ( Alexandra )
I ordered an iced horlick to go with my dinner.

I like horlick, especially for breakfast as I'm a breakfast person and it's important to me to have something in my stomach before I start my day, yet sometimes, there are days when you wake up without an appetite or in a hurry for work. Horlick, being a malt drink, saves the day!

The service here is prompt and friendly.

Berrylite
Smile 2011-06-29

Berrylite ( Raffles Place )
A cool 'Beverly Hills' setting selling frozen yoghurt. They'd usually have 4 flavors available to choose from. I had my medium cup share of mixed berries and milo, yes milo, the sound of it brought my interest to a higher level.

The yoghurt's texture is rich and creamy. Kind of makes you forget that it's yoghurt because it tastes like ice-cream. Didn't add any toppings because it's good on its own.

The Café Lobby ( Toa Payoh )
I would sometimes get economic bee hoon for my morning breakfast when I can't decide what to have. I'm a breakfast person and I don't like missing breakfast.

Economic bee hoon are always cheap but not necessarily good. This one, at Cafe Lobby, turned out to be yummy. Better yet, it wasn't too oily.

I added a piece of luncheon meat to my breakfast, that was oily though. Luncheon meat is definitely a no no next time.

Astons Specialities

Astons ( Dhoby Ghaut )
There's always a long wait here at Astons Specialities @ The Cathay. It's better when you dine during off-peak, like 4pm.

I order the Sirloin Steak that was apparently spammed with mushroom sauce which I don't understand why. From the vast variety of sides to choose from, I chose garden veggies (broccoli and carrots) and french fries.

The steak came served at medium well even though I asked for medium, but that's alright. The sides were good, the portions were just nice to fill my tummy.

Awfully Chocolate
Smile 2011-06-29

Awfully Chocolate ( City Hall )
I have heard a few positive comments about Awfully Chocolate's ice-cream and that persuaded me to try a scoop too.

They come in single and double scoops. I'm glad I went for a single as firstly, I wasn't sure if I'd like it yet and secondly, a single scoop was already a generous portion.

The rich and heavy chocolate ice-cream leaves you with chocolate coming out of your nostrils when you are done, I'm kidding. It was sure good but I doubt I could eat this every week, much less everyday.

Mangoesity

Mangoesity ( Choa Chu Kang )
I have walked past this store a couple of times but it never crossed my mind to try their desserts.

I did when I finally decided to try the uniquely made mango French desserts. They have cakes, muffins, meringues, macaroons, puddings and so on.

They aren't cheap though, about $4-5+ for each piece, and it's a simple kiosk, no seats whatsoever. I bought 2 slices: Mango Tango Cheesecake and Mango Gelée Cake. Both were luxuriously good, what's more, I read about the health benefits.

Both were rich in mangoes, but I preferred the Mango Tango Cheesecake, the chocolate crust and creamy cheese went well together. It was something I had never tried before.

RK Eating House

R.K. Eating House ( Ang Mo Kio )
A common spot for people to hang out when 'the night is always young'. People are often here for supper but some do come here for lunch and dinner too.

I ordered 2 pieces of plain prata, I'd usually have mine plain, sometimes with egg or onions and cheese but most of the time, I like plain.

I enjoy dipping half the serving in fish curry and the other half in sugar. The prata here is pretty good, it isn't like soaked in oil, not overly crispy, neither is it soggy.

Great!

Quiznos Sub.
Smile 2011-06-29

Quiznos Sub ( Tanjong Pagar )
Quite honestly, I was initially confused when I stepped into this shop and wondered if it's really Quiznos, another brand, or has Subway changed their layout and then I confirmed, yes it's Quiznos.

I was more gamed by then. I was keen to try a new sandwich. I ordered the mediterranean chicken with bbq sauce for my dressing.

The portion of chicken was generous, the bread smelled good but tasted similar to Subway's, vegetables were a load and fresh.

It was a great choice but Quiznos is a tough competitor against Subway.

BreadTalk ( Serangoon )
I was debating between the curry naan or the classic pork floss bun but eventually, the curry naan won. It's time anyway because I don't eat naan often compared to the pork floss bun, spicy or not.

The curry naan contains pieces of chicken and curry powder. The naan isn't the best around but is decent tasting for its price. It's also quite oily but overall, I'm fine by it.

Din Tai Fung

Din Tai Fung ( Bishan )
I have always been a fan of Din Tai Fung's xiao long bao. Everyone raves about it and you can see that 9 out of 10 tables would order at least a long of xiao long bao.

Besides the famous, all-time favorite xlb, I also ordered the 6-piece wanton (soup). The fillings inside each wanton was fresh, crunchy prawns with juicy minced pork meat.

A little pricey for Chinese food but definitely worth it.

Popeye's
Smile 2011-06-29

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen ( Ang Mo Kio )
I had a 3 piece chicken tenders meal, with my drink upgraded to ice lemon tea for just a few cents more.

The tenders are good, but the usual fried chicken ribs and drumlets are still better. Mainly because, I am not a fan of chicken breast meat to start off with and I feel that the tenders are really dry. At least the chicken ribs are juicy, makes the meal more enjoyable.

Barcook Bakery ( Raffles Place )
This bakery has a never-ending queue especially during lunch and evening, when most people knock off.

Their famous signature item is definitely the cream cheese raisin bun. People in line sometimes get a dozen of it at one go. I tried it and I love it.'

Soft like marsh mellows and the cream cheese, which tastes really natural, melts in your mouth. The raisin add to an extra touch!

Skinny Pizza
Smile 2011-06-29

Skinny Pizza ( City Hall )
Instead of what people would usually order, skinny pizzas, I chose to order fish and chips.

Served hot, with a side of golden seasoned truffle fries and salad. The beer(I think it's Anchor) battered fish tastes traditional and gives you the feeling of old British pub food. They also use red snapper instead of what most restaurants would use, cod fish.

The batter stayed crispy even when the dish cooled down.

Petit Provence
Smile 2011-06-29

Petit Provence ( Dhoby Ghaut )
I bought these 4 pieces of white buns from Petit Provence, a kiosk version of Provence.

It cost $3.20, seems to be a little steeper than most bakeries but definitely worth it. First of all, the buns have a unique texture, chewy but soft, fluffy and fresh. They do not have any fillings inside but they do taste good with kaya and jam.

I have also tried the Wassants and they're excellent too.
