All Day Breakfast

The Connoisseur Concerto ( Changi )
Found out that only Airport branch have all day breakfast.

The pancakes are soooooo goooood. Thick and fluffy inside, crispy outside. Matched with the cream sauce, ham and eggs, absolutely divine. I can finished all by myself but willingly I have to skip the next meal as it was quite filling by its own.

Most of the other dishes are fine, like the chilli crab pasta and the salmon sandwich. We ordered quite a variety of dishes that day as we had a big group. All of us left with a satisfying smile on our face.

Michelangelo's Restaurant ( Holland )
Finally we came to try out the well known restaurant. Had a deal in Groupon.

The portions are well sized. We were afraid that it will be like those fine dinning restaurant with small portions so we were quite happy.

Ribs, soup and bread is good. Pasta was alright and the risotto is slightly above average.

Service can be better thou.

Crabby Birthday
Smile 2012-04-12

JE Crab Specialist ( Tampines )
Crab is huge and juicy. Freshly cooked after you pick and choose. The Geoduck was good too. Thinly sliced, dipped it with wasabi or dash it through the boiling soup for some extra crunch.

The other dishes are common. Nothing to shout about.

It is in a coffee shop under a HDB flat. Although they tried to renovate it to almost like a restaurant, the patrons are still the neighborhood uncles drinking and chatting happily away.

Definitely must try the seafood here especially the crabs, others are just to fill up as the seafood are not very cheap here.

A different kind of experience
Just OK 2012-04-12

Joan Bowen Café ( Macpherson )
Have to make a reservation if not may have to wait or if you don't mind the outdoor seating.

Place is quiet and atmosphere is relaxing. Just a nice place to relax during lunch time away from the busy hustle just around the corner.

Patience is the key word here. If you do not have time, I wouldn't recommend you to come here at all.

Overall, the food here is not bad but is too pricey. The portion is a bit too little for their recommended dishes. But the fish and chips, cutlets' portion is good enough. Desserts are ok only.

Musselssssssss
Smile 2012-04-12

Brussels Sprouts ( East Coast Park )
Mussels in a pot. Its delicious and addictive to eat non-stop. The fries are very good as well. As it is refillable, we had a few portion before deciding to stop before we burst from our seams. The escargot was done nicely with the sauce as well. A very good match, you don't feel like stopping either. The mushroom soup is good too. The atmosphere here was relaxing. We had a beer and only ordered 2 kinds of mussels(one for one deal), mushroom soup and escargot. We wanted to order more but the waiter advised that it may be too much for two of us to handle which is quite true as we need to walk by the beach after the meal before we are able to stuff ourselves into the car for our trip home. Beware of mosquitoes.

Volka Tasting
Smile 2012-04-12

Buyan Russian Restaurant and Caviar Bar ( Tanjong Pagar )
Went for Volka tasting. Ha, friend saw it online, has the most extensive range of volka available in Singapore.

All are served in shot glasses.

These are served at the table - an iced bottle pour directly in front of you.

1. Beluga - Smooth and strong

2. Pinky - Sweet, abit like cough syrup as my friends tease me.

3. Kafferman - Abit too strong for my taste

Infused Volka - Interesting selections

Watermelon - sweet with melon scent.

Vanilla and Cinnamon - Too strong and doesn't seems to mixed well with volka

Sour Plum - Sweet and sour

Had a apple cocktail volka to end the night. Overall, the volka is very strong and took us quite a while to savor it neat. Acquired taste once you are into it. Ha.

Service was good with the guy recommending most of the volkas. The menu (iPad) explained the different type of selections offered in details. You be spoil for choices. It is a nice place to drink and chit chat.

Birthday Dinner for Meat Lovers
Smile 2012-04-12

Flamin' Grills ( Marine Parade )
My second visit. For my brother's birthday as he is a meat lover.

Love the steaks. Worth the money. I highly recommend those who love their meat to visit at least once. The lamb is tender and juicy as well. I find the ribs are overwhelmed by the sauce itself so doesn't like it much.

Foie Gras is fantastic. Its a must have if you are into it. Soft and tender, the vinaigrette is a good match together with the bread. Escargot can be better thou.

The mushroom soup is not the usual creamy type, doesn't satisfy my mushroom craving.

The salads are fresh, crunchy and full of toppings. As for the sides, well, I will stick to those common items like fries and baked potato. The Broccoli is a hit and miss. My sis hate it but we all like it. Ha, her expression when she smell it was funny.

Overall experience was great, service was good and quite prompt.

Lunch at Ichiban Nex
Smile 2012-04-10

Ichiban Boshi ( Serangoon )
Always love the sets at Ichiban for their variety although they are tough on the no exchange part, otherwise I would have visit them at least once a week for my jap craving.

Their soba is so-so, soup base is not fantastic either. Their Salmon Don is quite good although the cut can be better. The tempura are also crispy and don't feel oily at all.

Overall, their set is good to share between 2 pax with room to spare for some additional sushi on the belt and desserts.

Hi-Tea with a View
Smile 2012-04-10

The Landing Point ( Marina Bay )
The view there was fantastic. The ambiance was relaxing and soothing. Its a good place to laze and relax for an afternoon. It doesn't seems crowded but there is always a slow stream of people walking about quietly.

The tray of food items are bite sizes and can be replenish if we pay by per headcount. You can opt to share one set if you are looking for a place to chit chat and relax only. The tea and coffee can be change and they have a good variety of TWG's selection. Coffee only have the usual - cappuccino, mocha, latte and black.

With the exception of the egg mayo on toast and cucumber sandwich, all other savouries are yummy. We are not so keen on the desserts as they are hard and too sweet for our taste buds, only the kuek lapis is soft and just nice on the sweetness.

Lunch

Long Phung Vietnamese Restaurant ( Joo Chiat )
The small coffeeshop was easily missed if one is not carefully looking out for it. Its location was actually quite good, just next to the public carpark at Joo Chiat Rd.

The mango smoothie and the springroll was delicious. The mango scent simply linger in your mouth and it taste like the real thing not those syrup type. The coffee was yummy too.

The raw beef pho could be better. The satay cockles was nicely done with the matching salt and lime sauce simply tasty to match with. The fish stew is also another dish to try. The rice dishes are normal thou.

I definitely be back to try out more of the others..

Strictly Pancakes
Cries 2012-04-10

Strictly Pancakes ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Saw alot of mixed reviews, decide to try out as we simply love pancakes.

Quite a bit of variety in the menu for pancakes. Decide to try 1 each instead of sharing.

Ordered a chicken, a beef burger and a DIY with added egg and sausage.

1st about the important sidekicks - butter and maple syrup. Butter was still alright but the maple syrup has a burnt taste and was very diluted.

Chicken was breast meat and was dry and flaky. Beef patties was the same. Luckily the chicken came with a cream sauce(also diluted) which can cover the dryness. The egg and sausages are common too.

The pancakes itself is dense and heavy. The burger's pancake was thicker than usual. We had a hard time finishing the food.

Frankly speaking, we would rather go Mac for pancakes as the price is really ridiculously expensive for a the quality and quantity of food presented.

1st Visit to Nando's
Just OK 2012-04-10

Nando's ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Overall food was not bad, although after all the hype on the service, it did not seems to improve at all. We had a party of 4 and request to be seated at the round sofa seats in a 3/4 empty restaurant during a weekday evening. We were rejected saying that must be a party of 6 and more. We came in at 630pm and left at 9pm, restaurant was never even half full with all the sofa seats left empty throughout my dinner.

We only like the fries and the lemon drink. The bread is super tough to chew. Seriously, with the amount that we paid, I would rather go Kenny Roger's.

Birthday Dinner
Smile 2012-03-30

Barracks Cafe ( Dempsey Rd )
Soup is watery but flavourful with bits of mushroom

Burger was a bit dry but the fries are wonderful chunky type, crisp on the outside, soft inside.

Lamb was tender and the mint sauce is not overwhelming in fact it brings out the flavor.

Wagyu beef is so tender and done just right. Its melt in the mouth type. The accompanying sweet potatoe fries are the same as those potato fries. Must try!

The tuna salad was great as well. Although the tuna was a tad dry and abit too cooked.

The english breakfast pizza was not as fantastic as we imagine it to be and the toppings are quite miserable. Some of us did not even manage to get either the eggs or the bacons on our slice of pizza.

Kazokutei New Branch At Bugis Junction
Just OK 2012-03-30

Kazokutei ( Dhoby Ghaut )
Tried the ceasar salad - very fresh and crispy, the sauce is just nice and not overwhelming or too little. The toppings are also generous with eggs and bacon.

We ordered the kim chi pork soup without the udon (same price but they are willing to add more chives if you request). Its a tad salty but the meat is quite tender and the portion is good. The tempura is also good enough for me. Crispy enough to eat together with the tail.
The soba is normal only, nothing fanciful.

The chawanmushi, sushi and fries would be abit disappointing. We ordered the fries with seaweed topping, but as you can see in the picture, the amount of it is so dismal.

Sambal Fish
Smile 2012-03-30

(Old) Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant ( Serangoon )
My Favorite sambal fish. The coffee shop only serve the usual zi-char dishes but their sambal fish is a must. We usually order the fish with a soup and tofu or veg. With rice, it is very filling for 3-4 pax. We prefer the promfet as there are meat on both side of the fish. The sambal is actually the main lead here. The chef had it fried to a crisp and it is even good on its own or just with plain rice. We always ask for extra sambal to add to the fish. You have to mixed with those already on the fish as it seems a bit dry on its own. lolchopstickbowl
