Expensive breakfast but disappointed

Wild Honey ( Orchard )
We love the laid back and cool decoration of Wild Honey. Menu is only available at the counter on the chalkboards and on an iPad at the counter. It's better to decide on your food by viewing the menu online and order when you reached. The queue for food ordering can get rather slow with customers all queuing at the counter deciding on their orders. A breakfast cost minimum $18, FYI ~

Spinach Salad - S$16

Baby spinach leaves with roasted pumpkin and sweet potato, sunflower seeds, chickpeas and honey mustard dressing

Our favourite dish of the day! Portion was sufficient for two to share, fresh ingredients and the roasted sweet potato rock! We were surprised that chilled roasted pumpkin and sweet potato tasted good ;) It tasted firmer and sweeter ;) The dressing made a difference in enabling the salad to stand out.

I Love New York - $24

   Bad!

Scrambled eggs with caramelised onions and imported smoke sturgeon, served with a toasted sesame bagel with Wild Honey's own creation of cream cheese

We were disappointed with this dish sad The scrambled eggs with smoke sturgeon had a mild stinky smell which reminded us of pork that's not fresh. We couldn't finished the scrambled eggs due to the stink.

On a better note, the bagel with cream cheese was good!

English Breakfast - $22

The classic full breakfast; creamy scrambled eggs, pork sausage, sauteed mushrooms, dad's baked beans, bacon and vine ripened tomato with toasted brioche

This was much better! Oh well, it tasted slightly above average but not mind blowing ... As it's name goes, it's a classic breakfast with the classic taste that it ought to have and the portion is huge!

Same here, the bread - Brioche was fantastic ;) A bit of googling on Brioche: It is a French bread, characterized by a rich, sweet flavor and flaky texture which almost makes it feel like a pastry, rather than a bread.

Spending a total of S$72.97 is very expensive for a breakfast. We will have second thoughts for a return visit for breakfast. But we would love to buy the bread to make our own breakfast smile Wild Honey has a small section for sale of bread, this would suffice for us to make our own breakfast and healthier for our small wallets.

Yummy Fish Soup !

Long Ji XO Fishhead Beehoon - Soon Hong Food House ( Tampines )
[IMG:1

Fried fish and sliced fish soup with thick beehoon for only S$5.00 ;)

The lady chef was generous with the servings of fish and the dish was flavourful with a hint of hua diao jiu. The flour of fried fish is considered much thinner than most stalls and the flesh for fried fish is quite substantial. Sliced fish is not very fresh; at least, it doesn’t have a fishy smell.

MOF @ My Izakaya / Japanese Sweets & Coffee ( Ang Mo Kio )

The red bean is served warm and was way too sweet to be eaten on its own even the sweetest tooth among us could not stomach it ... After mixing with the glutinous balls and ice cream, the red bean is so much edible ;p

Unique green bean drink, however, the 2 additional condiments are charged separately ~

Soft Ice-cream are still the safest choice! ;p Portions are quite generous to be shared within 2 ;)

Great Milkshake
Smile 2011-10-25
Once Upon A milkshake ( Orchard )

Once Upon A Milkshake (OUAM) specialises in milkshakes which are hand-blended (using machines) with generous portion of fruits and ice-cream to a perfect smooth texture with New Zealand low fat milk.

There are 25 different milkshakes available and comes with its own character graphic. It's fun reading the short snippets behind each character as we sipped our milkshake.

We bought 2 vouchers at Streetdeal.com.sg for S$4.35 which is 50% off a regular milkshake ;)

We had the vanilla milkshake - thick with vanilla fragrance and the right level of sweetness, just the way we like our milkshake to be done smile

Privé Café ( Telok Blangah )
A gorgeous view of Keppel Bay with yachts lining up side by side, which you would wished that one of them belonged to you. With such a gorgeous setup, how could we not love this place at first sight?

It's convenient to go after or before shopping at VivoCity ;) Do note that without private transport or cab, it takes 15 to 20 mins to reach by foot.

There are three eateries at Prive - cafe, gastrobar and fine-dining restaurant. We are here today to dine at Prive Bakery Cafe smile

Straight Cut Fries with Truffle Mayonnaise Dip (S$10)

I love thick fries & the dip is fantastic!

Our favourite dish @ Prive Bakery ;)

Cheese Stuffed Button Mushrooms served with Aioli (S$12)

Though less than 8 pieces of button mushrooms, it is worthy at the moment of savoring when the cheese slowly sipped when bitten into it ...

Portobello Mushroom Salad New with Arugula, Cherry Virgin Tomatoes, Red Radish with Balsamic Vinaigrette (S$14)

Refreshing! would be better if the portion is bigger ;p

Chilli Crab Linguine in Sweet & Spicy Sambal Sauce tossed with Spanner Crab, Egg, Garlic & Coriander (S$25)

Level of spiciness can be selected and gosh the chilli is darn spicy!

Crispy Skin Pan-Seared King Salmon (160g) with Sautéed Vegetables, Mashed Potato in Dill Cream Sauce (S$28)

Crispy skin yet tender flesh, ;)

Banana & Chocolate Milk Shake with Almonds (S$11)
Said to be made with 3 scoops of premium ice cream but it tasted artificial and too sweet.

I prefer Once Upon A Milkshake.

Luscious Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Cake (S$6.80)

Excellent combination, worthy ;)

Carrot Cake (S$6.80)

Not bad but I prefer Cedele ~

Hazelnut Praline Royale (S$6.80)

Hmm, rather average ~

I love to return for the food and wild day dreaming while looking across those yachts and houses ;p

Butter Crab
Smile 2011-10-25
Mellben Seafood ( Ang Mo Kio )

We tried another crab flavour this time - Butter (sauce) Crab ... It was a pleasant surprise! Initially, I was worried that it might have an overwhelmed butter taste. It came out as a dish with mild sweet fragrance which was very receptive by us and it went extremely well with the huge Sri Lanka crabs.

And now we have plans to try other crab flavours at Melben instead of the usual chilli crab and crab bee hoon, now only lacking of a good date ;p

Affordable and yummy Vietnamese Food
Smile 2011-10-25
Madam Saigon ( Bugis )

Madam Saigon is a fuss-free restaurant with decorations at its minimum. Of course, we are there for the food and chic decorations often add on to our bill ;p We rather emphasis on the food to avoid any surprise on the bill ;p

In comparison to NUOC, Madam Saigon pales slightly in food taste and drink. But on the other hand, NUOC's prices are on a higer end, hence, we can't really compare.

Vietnamese Coffee

Hot = S$4.50, Chilled = S$5.00

Nuoc's coffee has a much stronger fragrance which lingered in our taste buds much longer.

Regular Delight Sampler (S$26.90)

A good portion to be shared among 3 to 4 persons, considering each to have a main course later ;p Taste wise was refreshing and not bad smile

Sliced Beef, Beef Ball Noodle Soup (S$8.90)

Special Beef Noodle Soup (S$9.90)

Madam Saigon is generous with the ingredients for both noodles soup. Soup broth is clear and refreshing.

And we could foresee ourselves returning to Madam Saigon for affordable Vietnamese food ;p

Friends @ Jelita ( Holland )

We bought two $19.90 vouchers at 70% off it's original price ($67) for a 4 course set meal at www.deal.com.sg. It includes 2 starters + main course + dessert of the day + coffee or tea.

Overall, it was a cosy and good dining experience. However, food portion was small and tasted slightly above average. We were not full at the end of the meal and had to buy bread from Cold Storage to fill our stomachs.

Starter (choose two)
Chilled Angel Hair Pasta & Lump Fish Caviar tossed with Seaweed, Chives and White Truffle Essence = selected
Marinated Probiotic Cherry Tomato Salad = selected
Homemade Mushroom Soup topped with Truffle Essence = selected
Vongole Clam Broth

Main Course (Choose One)
From the Sea – Pan Fried Fish Fillet, Pineapple Salsa with Garlic Mashed Potato, olives and Lemon Butter Sauce. = selected
From the Poultry Farm – Poule Au Pot (French Styled Chicken Stew) with choice of hearty warm bread rolls or Garlic Mashed Potato = selected
From the Cattle Farm – Grilled Ribeye Steak (220gm) with seasonal vegetables and garlic mashed potato (Top up $5 for the steak, payable directly at the restaurant)

Dessert of the Day = chocolate cake

Coffee or Tea

Falls below our expectation

Todai ( Marina Bay )

Todai Singapore positions itself as an International Seafood & Sushi Buffet Restaurant. Apparently we missed out to check on this when we bought the voucher from deal.com.sg. The voucher cost $45 nett per person, 30% off it's original price of $64. We were pretty sold out when Todai is also known as Mother of all Seafood Buffets. There was a large range of sushi which we only picked a few to eat.

We were expecting to taste a wide range of seafood but only to my disappointment. The range of seafood was smaller than we thought - The shelled seafood wasn't very fresh and had a hinge weird taste. The server had the blocks of salmon, tuna and swordfish on the chopping boards almost throughout the night as there were always requests for shashimi. We do like the fact that shashimi was only sliced when customers requested, but it also meant that the shashimi was not served chilled.

Nevertheless, Todai had a wide range of cooked food which were better than the seafood section. Pasta and noodles were prepared upon request; tasted quite ok. Dim sum were really bad with thick, chewy skin and dried ingredients in it. Dessert was quite ok but its cakes were rather off beat. I loved its beverage section the most, lol ~ unlimited flow of hot and cold drinks ;p

There are certainly hit and misses in Todai but we wouldn't visit again if there is no discount.

The Manhattan Fish Market ( Clarke Quay )

We bought vouchers from www.groupon.sg:
$6 for 1 Signature and Classic Cherry Snapper served with fries(Worth $13.90)

We were glad that we ordered some side dishes (garden salad and fried mushrooms) too as many others bought the same vouchers and the waiting time was about 20 to 30 mins for the fish and chips to arrive.

Ooh, the portion of fish and chips was not sufficient for us and we ordered garlic rice to go with it. In the midst of waiting, we hungrily gobbled the side dishes. The food was not bad but not really worthy for the price paid. The fish had a slight fishy smell and was slightly coarse.

Best dish are it's side dishes @_@

Gurney Drive ( Ang Mo Kio )
Gurney Drive is named after Sir Henry Gurney, a famous food heaven by a seaside promenade, which was formerly known as North Beach, in George Town, Penang. Gurney Drive seeks to provide affordable and authentic Penang cuisine to the public.

Penang Lor Bak wrapped with homemade beancurd skin

Not bad but not memorable

Gurney Thai Apple Chicken with Rice

Apple shreds with slices of fried chicken topped with special homemade sauce

It tasted ok but the slices of fried chicken were little

Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodle

Prawns, pork ribs, fish cakes, bean sprouts and kang kong in special prawn based soup made from the chef's secret recipe, garnished with fried shallot.

Best dish among all ;)

Broth was flavourful but the slices of pork ribs and prawns were not fresh.

Penang Chendol

Fresh chendol and red bean served in rich coconut milk and shaved rice sweetened with special brown sugar syrup

Chendol lacked of ingredients ~ only a huge mountain of ice with lots of brown sugar syrup ;(

We paid about S$30 for the meal for 2 of us ... Not exactly cheap compared to prices in hawker centers ... Overall food taste was slightly above average ...

I prefer the food at the nearby hawker center instead ~

Din Tai Fung ( Somerset )
Seats were allocated to us within 20 mins, however, it does get a little irritating when most staff only speak in Chinese.

Stir fried veg for S$8 was ok ... portion was sufficient for two to share

Our usual xiao long bao for S$6.50 - we love it's thin skin & tender pork filling ;)

Huge prawn siew mai for S$9.30 - skin was slightly tougher compared to the xiao long bao, but the fillings were juicy and fresh ~

Pork chop with fried rice for S$9.00 - the rice was fried to our liking and coated with egg evenly ;) the pork chop was soft with crispy skin ~

Island Creamery ( Holland )

3 scoops for $5.50

We tried pulau hitam, durain and reverso. The pulau hitam taste exactly like the dessert itself - one can taste the soft black glutinous rice which added to the wonderful ice-cream.

Durain flavour was rather average, I prefer Udders.

Reverso flavour was surprisingly yummmy! We wanted a chocolate ice-cream and randomly selected reverso. It came across as an ice-cream with thick chocolate taste but not sweet.

Pines Café ( Clementi )

The food is just ok - the drinks are better than food though @_@

Iced milk tea and Iced milk coffee at $2 each. It is served in a rather small to medium hand held size jug which made the serving well paid for the price.

XO Seafood Fried Rice ($6.50) serves a huge portion with a very light XO taste though. Ingredients are just ok with reasonable portions but it lack of the oomph factor. The huge portion is sufficient for 2 to 3 small eaters.

   Bad!

This Fish & Chip ($4.50) is a total wreck up. The fries are cold, fish is over fried and very oily. sad The order initially came wrong too ...

Western version of 'Chicken Rice'

BBQ Express ( Ang Mo Kio )

My boy calls this 'Western version of 'Chicken Rice' ;p

The ribs and chicken at BBQ Express are affordable and delicious. One may purchase the meat alone which the price goes by the weight of meat or one may purchase a set meal which comes with rice, chicken or ribs and some achar.

This Steak Rice ($3.90) is my boy's favourite.

The chicken are glazed with honey and other ingredients which made the skin a little crispy and tender on inside.

Sometimes we also purchase the chicken wings as snacks! A good option other than fried chicken ;)
