Crystal Jade has always been one of my favourite Chinese restaurants to dine at! I love the unique ambience of this place whereby the restaurant is in an oval like shape. Seating is vast and it overlooks the pretty airport if you decide to sit in the corners smile Staff are always secluded not too far from customers who are seated while a few staff are located at the entrance to greet you with a warm smile. No reservations are needed during off peak hours. The restaurant does get pretty busy during dinner time hence reservations are a must especially if one is coming in a big group! The staff holds no biasness towards non Chinese customers and are as friendly and accommodating to one's needs. Being a vegetarian, the only dish available to me was the vegetarian noodle soup which I have no quams about as it tastes delicious all the same. However, I wanted to get afew sides this time round to go with my yummy main dish. I asked the staff for recommendations on what could be *turned into a vegetarian dish* and she has happy to be of assistance. First off, she asked if I preffered eggs. After I had declined, she then went on to make some very helpful recommendations.
Braised Tofu

Braised Tofu

Braised Tofu which technically was a non vegetarian dish was made vegetarian for me. Waiting time was approximately 10-15minutes during which staff brings forward a *pickle snack* or *a variety of nuts* to keep one's mouth occupied accompanied by beverages of your choice. I had opted for Iced Green Tea which was opened by staff at my table and poured into a glass with ice.

Our dishes arrived soon enough and to my astonishment the sauce that was accompanied with the braised tofu was absolutely delicious. I was very impressed that they were able to still make the dish taste so good! Other ingredients such as black fungus, carrots, mushrooms, beancurd skin and broccoli was also added. I fell in love immediately and will definitely order this again! 10/10
Vegetarian Noodle Soup

Vegetarian Noodle Soup

My main course tasted similar to a peanut broth which was very refreshing. The dish included lao mian along with yummy vegetables such as cabbage, black fungus, a few mock meats, beancurd, carrots and mushrooms. The dish was very filling on its own and tasted even better with a little soya sauce. I am a huge fann of soya sauce and sambal chili and restaurants that have good soy sauce would definitely have a plus point! You would be happy to hear that crystal jade did not disappoint me on this aspect. The vegetables were perfect and the noodles were not too soggy. All the dishes were also served to us pipping hot and in record time. 9/10
Spinach & minced garlic

Spinach & minced garlic

Last but not least, the sauted spinach with garlic tasted just as incredible. The veggies were cooked to the right amount and tasted very fresh. The stalks were crunchy too! Serving size was reasonable and was fit for sharing between 2-3 individuals.

I enjoyed my dining experience at Crystal Jade and I am very pleased with the service, right till the very end when they cleared our plates, re-filled our glass of water and presented us with our bill when we asked for it. Service was great! and I do wish more restaurants had such efficient staff! well done smile

The best of thai Smile Feb 03, 2013

cutlery

The plates were already neatly layed on when we were ushered to our seats. The cutlery was also clean which gave us a good impression of the restaurant. There was also a spectacular view overlooking Katong from our seats. It was one of the best places to people watch and enjoy great food at the same time.
view from our seats!

view from our seats!

Service staff at this restaurant were friendly and very efficient. Our food did not take long to arrive and they very attentive when it came to special requests (such as less chili/more chili/no onions etc) which made me feel very valued as a patronizing customer. Cold water/warm water was available free of charge upon request along with chili with soya sauce; one of my favorite counterparts when it comes to chinese/thai cuisine. We could also choose our own seats when the restaurant was not swamped with people (which is pretty much always the case). This is one of the quite/laid back outlets in comparison to the rest of the Bali Thai restaurants.
yummy food!

yummy food!

Dish 1: Kang Kong with chili. A simple yet flavorful dish. The kang kong was not over or under cooked and it's stalks retained their crispyness. I loved the outburst of spicy chili padi's which could be found in the midst of the dish. Very well done and not a tad oily. Perfect! 10/10

Dish 2: Hot Plate Black pepper Tofu (can be ordered with or without egg)

I chose without egg of course as I was not really a fann. I loved the delicious black pepper gravy and the idea that the dish came pipping hot to us (the way it is supposed to). There was yummy cubes of tofu along with other sauted vegetables like mushrooms, peppers, cauliflowers, broccoli and carrots! The combination was mouth watering and the vegetables tasted naturally sweet and fresh! 8/10

Dish 3: Yellow Thai Curry

This is probably one of the nicest curries I have ever tasted. The gravy is a creamy base filled with yummy vegetables which were similar to the Hot plate Tofu dish. There was also a tinge of ginger which gave it that extra burst of flavor. This dish is highly recommended for its detectable goodness 10/10

Our food was accompanied by a serving of white rice charged at $2.50 per person if I'm not wrong. However, one could always get another helping for free smile

Note: I love how Bali Thai makes vegetarians feel at home with their own individual menu. There is a vast variety of dishes available and the pricing is not too outrageous. In fact, its worth it seeing that the food is up to standard. I also like the idea that the dishes are so wholesome due to the variety of vegetables added to one dish. There is never a dull moment at bali thai! They also have a couple of fun drinks on the menu to compliment the dishes.

I will be sure to visit again!

Summer Breeze OK Sep 19, 2012
Categories : Singaporean Western

It was my first visit to summer breeze, we arrived around the time that the restaurant was open and I must say, I really loved the place. It had a spectacular view of the beach. Staff appeared vigilant and friendly. Soft music was always played in the background which added to the atmosphere. Both smoking/non smoking seats were available for customers.

We ordered cheese fries, spring rolls, margarita and I had the Hoegarden beer.

The spring rolls were nice and crispy served piping hot after about 10minutes. The filling was not too bad either. Overall, pretty decent but I still found it overpriced as the spring rolls were the mini versions and costed about $10.

The fries took awhile to arrive and end up being served with our main course. Unfortunately their version of cheese fries were fries served with a liquid cheese dip. Not impressive and definitely not what I would call cheese fries. It also seems to be a tad salty.

The pizza was okay. This was the thin crust version but I found it too hard and spent a good amount of time cutting through it. Majority of the ingredients consisted of onions and mushrooms.

I have never tried Hoegarden but I definitely enjoyed it. Light and creamy while it compliments the food pretty well.

Service was not very efficient as our food took a good 20-25mins for everything to be served despite the idea there were only 2 other tables around (one with guys drinking and the other with a couple). Water refills were also not prompt and despite constant reminders to the staff, we only got our re-fills 10-15minutes later. We also opted for 2 more glasses of sprite that took another 15minutes. I have no idea why service was slow despite the outlet being so empty.

We paid $60+ for two.

This restaurant also has a tendency to hold credit/debit cards to keep the tab running which i really DO NOT recommend as doing so is very unsafe. I had a really bad encounter with this outlet as I have been a victim myself where there was misappropriation of funds amounting to $400. A police report has been made as well as a file with the bank. I would like to suggest cash payments to all customers who plan on patronizing.

Summer Breeze is alright when it comes to food and has a good ambiance. however due to un professional staff, I will not be visiting again.

Veggie Friendly Jap Restaurant Smile Apr 11, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Is it pretty hard to see a veggie friendly jap restaurant and so glad to have chanced upon one. This is one of the few sakae sushi outlets that caters to vegetarians

Rice Paper Maki "Veggie Sushi" : This was created by a genius. The sushi is infact made of rice paper wrap. Ingredients included carrots, cucumbers, mangoes among others. It looks like a real sushi, very pretty! tastes amazing- 9/10

Potato Koroke: This is another one of my favorites. Its somewhat like a potato cutlet. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It contains mixed vegetables. The dish was very well cooked and tastes excellent with soya sauce 9/10

There is another dish that contains rice and is wrapped in a beancurd skin. It's one of the nicest beancurd options available. Not sure what its called but its amazing! It does not need to be ordered separately as its usually on the "moving trays beside the tables" 9/10

Royal Chocolate: One of the nicest dessert options. Chocolate was rich and melts in the mouth 8/10

Cheese Mochi: I couldnt wait to try this dessert! It was pretty hard to cut through the mochi. The cheese in it was creamy and light. A nice way to end the meal 8/10

Fried Tofu: Nothing spectacular about this dish and I am guessing this is silken tofu as it crumbles very easily 7/10

Vegetable Tempura: This is really crispy and contains all kinds of vegetables. One of a kind 8/10

Japanese Green Tea: This is indeed not Japanese! tastes like seaweed; quite gross. I have bought authentic Japanese green tea and this cannot stand as comparison.

I decided to get the Sakae Card right after the meal!

Surprisingly good pizza's Smile Mar 15, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western Variety | Restaurant | Seafood | Halal | Kids-Friendly

My boyfriend had a craving for fish & chips. As a vegetarian I feel pretty restricted. We chanced upon the menu at fish & co and I came across the section of pizza's which looked pretty good.

I order the margarita pizza (2 slices). It was also available as a whole. Surprisingly, the thin crust pizza tasted fantastic! It certainly lived up to my expectations as thin crust pizza's are usually harder then the usual. The one here was well cooked yet so easy to bite into. It was a tomato based pizza which consisted of melted cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, olives and onions. It was strange as I did not even need any form of sauce to go along with my pizza as it tasted fantastic on its own. A small salad was also served at the side 9/10

The Iced Latte was alright. It came in a huge glass but I found it lacking in caffeine. It tasted a little too sweet for my liking. It was topped off with whipped cream! 6/10

Overall, a really nice discovery. Staff there were very attentive and accommodating to us. We were also offered sweets while footing the bill smile
