My ex-colleagues had organized a dinner cum drinking gathering over at Brotzeit located at The Star Vista on Tuesday (30 April 2013).
Long Queue to dine at the restaurant

Long Queue to dine at the restaurant

For anyone who wish to have their meals at this place (Especially dinner), it would be best to call them and make reservation. When I was there, there were a lot of people queuing for their turn to dine in this place. Luckily we had make reservation as we had a bigger group of people eating.

The restaurant was quite big as it uses both in-house (With Aircon) and outdoor area for customer to dine at the restaurant. Space between each tables were still consider ok though the place can be quite noisy with all the customer trying to fight with each other with their loud voice while trying to chat with their friends. The staff there were nice and friendly who will introduce some of the drinks if you were unable to make up your mind.

A lot of people came here due to their beer and of course their house special which was the pig knuckle. We order some draft beer (During happy hours) and to our surprise, these was served in very big beer glass.
Brotzeit Fladen Speck / Bacon Pizza @ $16.50

Brotzeit Fladen Speck / Bacon Pizza @ $16.50

Unlike those pizza that we had over at pizza huts, these were square shape and was more crispy and full of ingredients. The pizza includes Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Bacon, onions, vine ripened tomatoes and chilli.
Brotzeitplatte / Brotzeit Platter (For 4 to 5 pax) @ $88.00

Brotzeitplatte / Brotzeit Platter (For 4 to 5 pax) @ $88.00

This was one of the best dish and the biggest that I had eaten so far. The platter recommend 4 to 5 pax to eat it but since we are Asian, I think up to 7 pax can have this meal and still will be just nice or full to all. From this platter, the main dish were Pork Knuckle, Different varieties of sausages, Pork Schnitzels (Crispy Pork Chop) and you get to choose 2 side dishes to go with the platter all for $88.00.

Ente which was roasted duck on top of mashed potatos was not a bad dish to try out. The meat was very tender and not tough to eat at all.

Nice dining Experience  Smile Dec 10, 2013

Both me and my girlfriend decided to go City Hall for some windows shopping and dinner straight after work on Thursday (18 April 2013). We meet at City hall MRT station, going through the City Link underground mall, we passed by a few stalls.

Along the way, we passed by a restaurant who had a staff (Uncle type) trying to get customer to come eat in their restaurant, we took a look at the menu and the staff was very friendly and was able to introduce some of their plus point to dine at their restaurant. The restaurant served different kinds of dishes including finger food and main course like western or pasta and etc. I think one of the plus point which made us dine in the place is their free flow of soft drinks (Carbonated type so I did not drink any) and “Soup of the Day” for each set meal ordered (There are free wireless too but is not one of the plus point to me). In term of pricing, they are considering on the value type.

They do not accept Credit Card payment but accept NETS / EZ-LINK / CASH

The restaurant itself was not very big so in term of seating space, the tables between each other are actually quite close with each other making it not as easy (But still manageable) to walk around the place. The staff was very efficient in clearing up the tables when customer leave the place to allow more customer to come in for their dinner.

After ordering our meals at the counter and made payment on the spot, we proceed to self service to take our soup and drinks (Soup, soft drinks and some sauces are self-service from a counter).
Free flow Cream of Carrot and Vegetable Soup with set meals ordered

To our surprise, they served nice soup. The soup of the day is “Cream of Carrot and Vegetable” which to me was good and not too bad for a free flow soup.

There were already not a lot of soup left (The restaurant never refill since it was near closing time when we dine there) but still, we were able to drink at least 2 bowls of the soup each which made us quite warm up for our main course.
Under Chef Special Set Meal – Grilled Salmon Fish @ $16.90

Under Chef Special Set Meal – Grilled Salmon Fish @ $16.90

As a fish lovers, my girlfriend order the Chef Special Set Meal of Grilled Salmon Fish which served with Salad, Mashed Potato & Sausages. In terms of price wise, I think it is still quite worth the cost with their salmon giving quite a big portion (Other places is smaller and thinner). The salmon are nicely grilled which makes the skin of the salmon become quite crispy which Rachel loves a lot. The meat itself was still quite juicy inside. Mashed Potato and the rest of the side dishes I would say normal of a standard.
Signature Spicy BBQ Grilled Chicken @ $10.90

Signature Spicy BBQ Grilled Chicken @ $10.90

I ordered a Grilled chicken and actually for the taste wise, it is not spicy at all except some of the nice pepper taste which I love it.The chicken meat was quite tender and easy to bite without much toughness. I do not really like the thickness of the chicken skin though as it seems very fattening (Did not eat those skin). For this dish, I can get side dishes of Fluffy Rice and choice of either salad (Which I chosen it) or mashed potatoes. The meal also allows me to add another $2.50 if I wish to have one scoop of New Zealand Ice-cream which I did not order.

Seoul Yummy Dinner at The Central OK Dec 10, 2013

Categories : Korean

It was Friday, me and my girlfriend decided to just go to The Central for our dinner as it had been a long time since the last time we went there for a meal. We decided to go for Korean food at Seoul Yummy Restaurant after some walking around looking at different restaurants and discussion on what to eat.

There are quite a lot of people queuing up to have their meal fix here and we also joined in the queue too. Reason for selecting this restaurant was that they had a very nice display of Korean dishes, their environment looks cozy and of course, there were quite a lot of people queuing for it meaning it must be quite good.

Nice interior design

We waited for about 15 to 20 minutes before we were allocated with a table of 4 people. Since all of us were hungry from the waiting and it was already quite late, we looked through the menu and started to order our dishes.
Free flow side dishes for each table

Free flow side dishes for each table

We were given 1 sets of Korean side dishes which was refillable but as those side dishes are in a small portion, it seems that we cleared a few rounds of side dishes. I was wondering how come they do not at least cater for 1 set of side dishes for each 2 customer or so instead of 1 table of 4 people to 1 sets of 6 small dishes.
Kimchi Fried Rice with Pork & Assorted Seafood @ $13.90 (Additional $1.90 for cheese)

Kimchi Fried Rice with Pork & Assorted Seafood @ $13.90 (Additional $1.90 for cheese)

This was quite a special dish with cheese additional to it but they served very small portion of it as shown in the photo. Very stingy from my point of view. The fried rice was quite spicy due to mixture of chili while frying it. Overall not a bad dish but could be improve further if it was given more cheese.
Hotstone Bibimbab @ $13.90 which I added @ $1.90 for additional Flying Fish Roe

Hotstone Bibimbab @ $13.90 which I added @ $1.90 for additional Flying Fish Roe

For Korean meals, I would normally ordered those hotstone type of meal as it can keep the food warm and taste better in my point of view. You can choose between 4 sauce for your hotstone mainly SupaHot Sauce (Very spicy), Bibim Sauce (Original slightly spicy), GG Sauce (Non spicy garlic) and lastly, BBQ Sauce (Non spicy and slightly sweet). I selected the original type of sauce for this meal. Taste wise, I would say it is a standard type of dish except that you get to eat those flying fish roe together with the rice to give a better taste and feelings. Their ingredients were quite ok except the meat portion do not give a lot on it.
Our drinks ordered: Korean Pear, Jeju Orange and Floating Grape @ $3.90 each

Our drinks ordered: Korean Pear, Jeju Orange and Floating Grape @ $3.90 each

Another thing to note is that they charge for plain water!!! Up till now, I still do not feel that we should pay for plain water from a restaurant who actually took those from the tap (If they use those mineral water bottle type, I still can accept). So instead of paying them for plain water, normally I will totally do not drink, purchase their special drinks and all will come to the same conclusion: I will not dine at this place again (Unless I do not have a choice on it).

We were walking aroung Far East Shopping Centre, and was thinking of what else to eat. Since the shopping centre have not much choices, we tried to go some other places to eat but as it is raining heavily, we just walk around the shopping centre to check if there is any other nice restaurant which we can try out and this is when we saw a Japanese Restaurant called “Rakuichi Japanese Restaurant” which seems to be quite nice but very quiet. There are just about 2 small groups of customer eating inside the restaurant when we walked in but the staff are very welcoming which makes us feels quite cozy.

The restaurant looks nice with wooden decoration design theme and they display some of their seafood (Though some of them are fake) on the counter.

After looking through their menu, you can feel that they are mainly into set meals with a lot of different dishes included in it. Most of them are quite on the high side of price too. The dishes are also quite limited on which set you can choose as most of the fresh sashimi depends on whether there is any of them in the restaurant.

All meat are being kept nicely inside the display fridge to make sure the meat is fresh before cutting it.
Grilled Salmon Skin @ $10.00

Grilled Salmon Skin @ $10.00

This is something which I had eaten in other restaurant but not being prepared in this way. The chef used simple way of grilling the salmon skin with pressing the skin till compacted together resulting in crispy yet nice salmon skin. Best to be eaten together with rice so as not to be too salty. I do not think I saw this dish inside the menu but you can request for it from the staff who will get the chef to prepare the dish.
Namakaki Ponzu @ $9 (Each)

Namakaki Ponzu @ $9 (Each)

Fresh oyster are being opened on the spot and marinated with some ponzu sauce together with some greens. One mouth all in and you will be able to taste the freshness of the oyster while the ponzu sauce compliment the overall taste with it nice sweet plus salty feel. Highly recommended but as I said, it is on the high side of the price to me.
Iro Iro Set @ $38.60

Iro Iro Set @ $38.60

The whole of this set include the following:

-Raw Fish of the Day
-Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt
-Steamed Egg Custard
-Seafood Tempura
-Rice, Mixed Pickles
-Seaweed and tofu miso soup.
Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt – Part of Iro Iro Set

Grilled Kama (Fin portion) with salt – Part of Iro Iro Set

The one that I get does not really looked like a fin portion but neverless, this is a nice and simple dish to have with it meat being grilled to light brown with juicy meat when you bite onto it.
Seafood Tempura – Part of Iro Iro Set

Seafood Tempura – Part of Iro Iro Set

The seafood tempura is actually consist of part of soft shell crab and some vegetable prepared in tempura style. Very crispy while able to taste the juiciness of the soft shell crab and vegetable.
Gindara Teriyaki Set @ $38.60

Gindara Teriyaki Set @ $38.60

The whole of this set include the following:

-Sashimi of the Day
-Grilled Cod Fish with Teriyaki Sauce
-Steamed Egg Custard
-Food Tempura
-Rice, Mixed Pickles
-Seaweed and tofu miso soup.
Fish of the Day (Salmon and Yellowtail Sashimi) – Part of Iro Iro Set and Gindara Teriyaki Set (Combined)

Fish of the Day (Salmon and Yellowtail Sashimi) – Part of Iro Iro Set and Gindara Teriyaki Set (Combined)

The whole presentation of the dish is very nicely done with real crushed ice base to keep the sashimi as fresh as possible (Some restaurant used reusable chemical ice packet instead). Sashimi is evenly sliced (Equal thickness) and most importantly, it is very freshly made and you can feel the texture of the freshness with each bite.

Dining at Table Manners Smile Dec 02, 2013

We stayed in the east area and went to Singapore Expo to take a look at the travel event. After that, we decided to walk over to Changi City Point which is a new shopping mall opened next to Expo MRT station. Walking through some of the restaurants, we decided to settle for “Table Manners” for our dinner as their simple yet unique decoration kind of attract us to dine here.

The seating of the restaurant are very special as they do not really have separate tables but more on those long type of tables for all different customer to seat. Read somewhere said that this restaurant idea is to let customer mingle with each other and make friends with strangers eating there too.

In terms of space wise, they have indoors and outdoors dining area and I like the one below a tent type but too bad during that time when we are there, some other customer are already there having their meals.

The staff are quite knowledgeable of their own dishes and is able to tell us some details of the dishes when we enquire about it. One thing great about them is that they are able to re-fill our drinks without us keep asking for it. (Unlike a few restaurants that I had eaten so far.)
Cappuccino of Mushroom Soup @ $6.50

Cappuccino of Mushroom Soup @ $6.50

There is a strong smell coming out from the soup though I am not very sure if it is really cappuccino (I love cappuccino drinks). Maybe it is being mixed with mushroom so the smell is different from the normal drinks but for this soup, it does taste unique and if you never tried before, you should try it to have your own opinion.
Louisiana Fried Chicken @ $16.00

Louisiana Fried Chicken @ $16.00

This is one of the more popular dish based on what Hazel said and it is true that I think this is one of the more value dish to have for a meal as it comes with truffle fries and house salad. The chicken meat is very tender and nicely fried with crispy on the outside, locked the juicy meat on the inside.
Chicken Parmigiana @ $17.00

Chicken Parmigiana @ $17.00

Breaded Chicken leg are being deep fried before putting some tomato sauce mixed with melted mozzarella cheese. Very nice to be able to eat the melted cheese as though you are eating pizza but with a better bite with crispy chicken meat. The dish is served with mash potato and a bit of house salad using none fat salad sauce.
Three Little Pigs @ $16.00

Three Little Pigs @ $16.00

Breaded pork cutlet are being deep fried before serving it with mash potato and house salad (Same as the Chicken Parmigiana) before sprinkle with some garlic aioli (Green bits). Not as good as the chicken but normal because meat of the pork is always harder than chicken.
Ebiko Mussels @ $8.50

Ebiko Mussels @ $8.50

These mussels are big and sweet. Some fish roe mixed with mayonnaise sauce are being place on top of the mussels before placing in oven or something to make those sauce smelted. Resulted taste. Great and must try when you are there. (I know other places also have these type of dishes too so do try theirs too). There are some rice below those mussels so this should be able to be eaten as snack or main dish if you are a small eater.
Truffle Chicken Bites @ $8.50

Truffle Chicken Bites @ $8.50

Chicken bites (No bones) are being deep fried before sprinkle with truffle power which gives a strong truffle smell and taste. There are truffle fries (Same as skinny pizza type if not wrong) if you wish to have. For me, the taste is nice but truffle stuff always gives my stomach a problem so I kind of eat less of it.
Norwegian Baked Salmon @ $20.00

Norwegian Baked Salmon @ $20.00

A big piece of Salmon meat is being baked before serving it with mash potato, mushroom ragout below and some garlic miso mayo sauce on top of the meat. I feels that the salmon is a bit too dry and the mushroom is very juicy. Not a bad dish.

Jambalaya @ $16.00

Jambalaya @ $16.00

This is a combination of both seafood and meat together cooked like pasta style with Mussels and Chicken wings with spicy tomato sauce. Served with pilaf rice (Not very sure what is this rice anyway).
