Zheng Zhong Tiong Bahru Shui Kueh ( Marine Parade )
This local snack is most commonly eaten as a breakfast item but I think it’s so good that it should be eaten at ALL times of the day. Chwee Kuehs are made of rice flour and water mixture which is then steamed in these aluminum molds that give them their signature shape. The cakes are then topped with preserved radish (chye poh) and if you like, eaten with lots of spicy and sweet chili sauce.

Crystal Jade Dining In ( Telok Blangah )
Walked in on a weekend dinner and was seated at the room area, sharing a long table with other diners. Service was good as they'll try to pour the tea for you whenever the teacup is half full.

Ordered char siew bao, siew mai, deep fried prawn roll with mango, carrot cake and a meat platter (roasted duck and roasted pork). One down-side is if you come in pairs during peak lunch hours, you will hardly to get a sit.

Forlino ( Marina Bay )
I was invited to a lunch on a weekend with a few colleague at Forlino for his birthday vouchers.

As we entered, we were shown to a nice window table which has a beautiful view of Marina Bay Sands and the Esplanade. A nice server introduced the menu for the day and took our orders accordingly.

The food served was delicious though small portion. I guess this is what fine dining is all about.

Bak chor mee

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle ( Lavender )
Although it's now at a sleepy HDB enclave, queues are still horrendously long. I was there once when there wasn't any queue so we decided to eat the bak chor mee - vinegar based sauce that was spicy and addictive, noodles were not soggy and perfectly chewy in texture. I would have preferred thinner noodles though.

Dessert Hut

Dessert Hut ( Chinatown )
I find the desserts quite delicious and the service was extraordinary fast although the premise was packed with people but the desserts were rather expensive. Although the shop is located in a corner, on the second floor of the mall, the lunch time crowd still brings in brisk business. After tasting the desert you'll find out why Desert Hut attracts so many people even though it does not have a good location.

Food Republic, Huat Huat BBQ Chicken Wings ( Telok Blangah )
The freshly barbecued golden brown Chicken Wings were succulent and juicy. If you are a chili lover, try the chicken wings with their chili sauce. I guaranteed it will give you that extra kick. Give it a Try..!!!

Dessert

Jin Jin Hot/Cold Dessert ( Bukit Merah )
This stall is outstanding because young people man the stall, and they are proud of what they serve. Most of the other dessert stalls that I patronized are manned by older people - the one in Queenstown, Zion Road, former Margaret drive. They are quite a tired lot but this bunch of youngsters is raring to go.

Ambience: It's a clean food center but don't expect much. They are friendly too, with such services; I think it will attract more customers for sure.

Katong Laksa
Smile 2012-04-24
328 Katong Laksa ( Joo Chiat )
328 Katong Laksa is my gf and my favorite hangout coffee shop if we are at the east area. I ordered a $5 bowl of laksa which comes in a bigger portion. Ask any Singaporeans on where to find local delicacies and I can assure you stall 328 Katong Laksa would be mentioned. Well I love laksa. I treat Penang Laksa and Noyna Laksa as different dish. However I do love both types of laksa.
This is what nonya laksa is all about. Off all nonya laksa, I think Katong Style of laska is the best way to enjoy laksa.

Soup Restaurant
Just OK 2012-04-24
Soup Restaurant ( Boon Lay )
Like what most of us would think me inclusive. I had the conception from the name of the restaurant that it only serves soup, or maybe mostly soup dishes. It was until I went up to have a look at the menu that I realized, it was just like any other Chinese restaurants – like Dian Xiao Er and PuTien – it’s a high class zhi-char, where you order dishes to go along with a bowl of rice, in general. The most recommend restaurant is the samsui chicken, which I think not nice, too soggy and it is cold.

Thai Foods

Diandin Leluk Thai Restaurant ( Beach Road )
I will never visit this restaurant in Golden Mile but after this meal; it seemed to be one of the more established restaurants in this strange shopping center but however it is the worst “authentic” restaurant that I had tried.
Papaya Salad $5.00 - Rather too spicy for my taste, and tomato, lime, peanut chunks through it were not fresh. The peanuts seemed to be very soggy. The one I have opposite the golden mile at the hawker center seems to be even better.

Chang Korean

Chang Korean Restaurant Charcaol BBQ Restaurant ( Bugis )
We were going to watch movies at iluma and decided to try the food here. My friend recommended Chang, a modern Korean restaurant joint and I decided to give it a go. I was actually craving for a bowl of good old hot and spicy kimchi soup however Chang only had salmon kimchi soup, so I tried that. It turned out not to be spicy and had a fishy, tomato flavor in it, even after they had replaced the soup, when I complained. Strangest kimchi soup I have ever tried. One more thing, the sides dishes are not fresh. I won’t go there anymore.

Marble Slab Creamery ( Bugis )
Enjoyed it tremendously and this one was more doughy in texture and tasted like cinnamon, apples and caramel. I ate the whole thing and didn't feel sick afterwards, which is good smile You can have it with ice cream but it's more expensive...I do wish the top had been more cookie like though, but I think the moistness is just right

Q~Q Noodle
Smile 2012-04-23
QQ Noodle House ( Bugis )
The QQ noodles were nice, springy and well cooked. The sauces blended well with the noodles. In terms of ingredients, they have char siew (nice), minced pork, dumpling (ok but pathetically so small), one pork ball and one fish ball (the pork ball was ok but the fish ball was bland and soft and not chewy). For me it is not enough for such small portion, I have to ask for the bigger bowl with additional charge.

Five Star Chicken Rice ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )
Nice food but inconsistent standard. The chicken rice was really so-so, nothing to shout about. The other dishes were okay, it was really like kopitiam with hainanese chicken rice. Price wise I think it is getting more and more expensive.

Will only go back to patronize if nearby got nothing else to eat. Hahahahaha

Nice steamboat soup
Smile 2012-04-23
Nan Hwa Chong Fish Head Steamboat Corner ( Arab Street )
I'm a big fan of steamboats but I usually finish drinking the soup, their soup was so tasty, I couldn't stop drinking it! Pomfret slices were very fresh and the yam was a new experience but definitely a must-try as well. If you are a big eater and you are going with your parent, don't order the small, order the medium at least. I ordered the small and ended up having to ask for extra ingredient which cost us 20 dollars. The portions were ok, not especially generous but within reason.

Spending:
Approximately
SGD 20+
