Terrible Buffet Experience Cry Apr 16, 2013

To be fair, we arrived quite late at around 8 pm. However, the staff should have had the decency to warn us before we made payment that we would be consuming leftovers and that the food would not be replenished.

There was barely anything left. Most items were finished and never refilled. Barely any seafood and cooked dishes. Salad bar, desserts and fruits section were almost empty.

For the food quality, it was poor.
The sushi's rice tasted ok, but the fillings were sparse and not appetising.
Salmon sashimi was ok too, but the rest were not fresh. The tuna had a stale taste even!
Seafood were strangely saltish? The mussels weren't fresh, being mushy and saltish.
Fried food such as tempura were mostly soft and soggy.
The Dim Sum items were dry and bland.

The best dish would probably be the Satays, which had a rather tasty sauce!

For the price we paid (about S$30++ per person), the food quality and quantity were terrible.
Service was poor too, perhaps because they were understaffed. There were spills on the floor and counters, plates were cleared infrequently.

Overall, it was a terrible dining experience, and probably the worst buffet I ever had.

Delightful Heng Hwa Cuisine! Smile Apr 16, 2013

We ordered a set menu with some additional dishes.
Their dishes were all of great quality at reasonable prices! So far, no dish was a disappointment.
Their Prawn Herbal Soup was served with large juicy prawns! The herbal taste was nice, but the soup was a little saltish.
Their noodle dishes were all delicious! We especially loved the Lor Mee. Their signature Heng Hwa noodles were a little too dry for our liking - but still it was tasty nonetheless.
For a limited time only, they are serving "Jian Bao". It's really like a large, lightly fried version of the Xiao Long Bao, but dipped with a special sauce which made it really tasty!
Overall we had a great dining experience - great food at affordable prices. Thumbs up for the service and ambience too!

Healthy Delicious Meal! Smile Apr 12, 2013

The concept of the rice rolls is pretty simple, pick a rice from 5 choices, and select 5 fillings from a wide (and pretty interesting) variety. Then you have the option to add a sauce. They even have a vegetarian section!

I tried the purple rice with cucumbers, mushrooms, seaweed, spicy radish and vegetarian floss as fillings. I wasn't asked if I wanted to add sauce and didn't realise I could until later.
The roll was served warm and is about palm-size. The purple rice tasted like brown rice, a nice nutty flavour. The cucumbers and floss gave the roll a nice crunch!

I also tried their breakfast item - Healthy Rice Porridge. The porridge was the sticky, gooey kind and was rather bland by itself. There was a strong ginger taste that I disliked. You can have 3 toppings for the porridge. I went with peanuts, long beans and mock duck meat. The toppings saved the porridge from being too bland.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the porridge. If you're planning on having breakfast there, you can try their pre-made Snack Rolls or have the Rice Rolls instead. I love the concept of being given so much choice for the fillings - it allows you to make a really healthy dish if you choose wisely!

They were having a 10% off for the Rice Rolls - I spent S$4.00 for mine.
The porridge costs S$3.60.
Do note that some of their fillings have been labelled as 'Premium' and will cost you an additional S$0.30.

Affordable Western Food! OK Apr 11, 2013

Each main course comes with a bowl of the Soup of the Day, coleslaw, tomato & cucumber slice, and fries.
The soup was quite saltish and was served as the starter (it would be nice if there was garlic bread to offset the saltiness though). The coleslaw was OK, but the fries were saltish (again!) and soggy sad

We tried their Chicken Chop. The meat and flavour were alright, quite tasty, but the skin was saltish (!!).
The Chicken Cutlet was ROCK HARD. Avoid this one.
Their Grilled Fish was nicely seasoned, with soft flesh. The best dish out of these three.

Overall, the food was alright for the price (about S$5.50 - 6.50). The portion was normal. The dishes were served rather quickly!

Yuan-Yang Steamboat! OK Apr 11, 2013

Went there for dinner. The place was air-conditioned with quite a few tables. This place used to be packed but now there are only a few tables occupied, probably due to the increased competition and the higher prices.

We ordered the Yuan-Yang soup base. The chicken-base was normal but the Ma-La one was spicy and numbing!
Their selection of dishes was pretty standard. The meat (besides pork) were pretty lean but the shellfish were not fresh.
No Tang-O either sad
Their mango pudding made a pretty nice dessert though!

Overall the food was OK, but considering the price, the selection should have been better (and the quality too!!).
They served the non-meat dishes rather quickly, though the meat took quite a while (and it wasn't very crowded).

Be prepared to feel thirsty after this meal! (Saltish soup!)

Spent about S$26++ per person.
