Enjoy a whole new experience when you dine and drink @ d' Good Cafe. The Husband and I were very honoured to be invited for this brand new experience by Street Directory and Jasmine Loh from d ' Good Cafe.

The cafe is located at Holland V and for those who often drive along Holland V, the cafe 's lawn is not hard to miss. The cosy cafe is 2 storey high with a built in lift. There are 4 different settings - The Bar, The Lawn, The Attic and the Balcony. A place to rest and relax at one corner!

The cafe is very famous for their cheesecakes and they were baked by the boss himself with fresh real ingredients. So stocks can be limited. They are also well-known for their "Personalised Coffee" ~ Blend and Brew the way you like it.

For only $12.00, you can customised the coffee to your own preference of taste and you can simply name the coffee after the process. They will noted down your coffee and remake the coffee on your next visit! Love the coffee and want to brew it at home? Fret not, you can also purchase your custom blend coffee beans yourself too! Grinding services are available. but do note that, the coffee taste best when they are just grind! Did i mention that their coffee beans are roasted everyday to ensure the freshness of the beans?

So how does your "best" cup of coffee comes about? They have a 3 step custom blend process which comprises the following.
Surveying to determine your coffee preference. Selecting the preferred taste that you want and they will determine the type of coffee bean to use, the amount to achieve the type of taste that you want.
Coffee cupping to confirm your preference and beans for blending. They will select 3 types of beans that will match your preferred taste and they will grind it into powder form. Then they will ask you to take a sip of each cup and ask for your preference between the 3 types of coffee beans
Blending, brewing and naming your own coffee blend. They will asked for your preference of coffee - be it light or heavy and select the brewing method to "carry out" the taste of the coffee.

In addition to coffee, the cafe also offer fine teas, smoothies and fresh fruit juices.

For adventurous coffee lovers, do try out their Dutch Ice Drip ($6.00) that serves in a wine glass. This cold coffee gives a lingering and refreshing after taste effect. For tea lovers, also do checkout their cranberry orange tea which is newly launched for the Chinese New Year!

For earl grey lovers like me, i love their earl berry cooler ice blend with earl grey tea and strawberry! You will be surprised once you take the first sip! The drink is very cooling and refreezing. the blend between earl grey and strawberry is a perfect match!

For mocha / latte lovers, do check out their cute latte art! They are so cute that you can't bear to drink them haha. I love their mocha latte ~ super rich and creamy!

For those who are looking for casual dining, there are a wide variety of food to choose from their menu that comprising all-day breakfast, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, pie and cakes.

Calling out to all Mushroom lovers! Their cream of mushroom ($6.00) is super rich and creamy. You feel like drinking a mouthful of mushrooms each time. They added generous slices of Portobello mushrooms to enhance the taste too!

Their Chicken Tikka Masala ($12.00) that uses only fresh and not frozen chicken is not something to be missed. Although from the picture it look spicy, but trust me, it is not as spicy as you think. So for those people who do not take spicy food, do give this a try. the sauce is very thick and goes super well with the rice. However, i find the chicken meat is slightly dry but other than that, i give a thumbs up for this dish!

Seafood lovers especially people who loves prawns, do try their Fresh sea prawn aglio olio ($16.00) and their fresh sea prawn pesto ($16.00). The prawns are super fresh! Trust me, they only use the fresh and best ingredients! The fresh sea prawn aglio olio maybe a little challenge for people who don't take spicy food though.

For sandwich lovers, do try their bacon, tomato & rocket sandwich ( $10.50). The ciabatta is very crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. According to Jasmine, they are particular on the quality of the bread and they only use good bread! The streaky bacon is very crispy and gives you a crunchy effect each bite. Their homemade garlic mayonnise brings the overall a whole new flavour!

Like i mention previously, they are well known for their cheesecake. seriously, they serve the best cheese cake that i ever had so far. Its a pity that we don't get to taste they maple sea salt cheesecake ( they are the first to create this). But trust me, their other cheese cake are very good as well. Especially their Triplet cheesecake! The rich dark chocolate with cheese and oreo are superb for chocolate lovers like me. Not too sweet to make me feel less sinful haha. The bottom crust are manually done by hand so it is very firm! If you prefer something light, do try their new york cheesecake! The texture is very light and goes perfectly well with a cup of tea!

As the name of the place says "Sik Wai Sin"(Cantonese) in English is Eat comes first. With no physical menu, all menu is up on each waitress/ waiter 's mind and only 8 different dishes available. It is not easy to WOW many people nowadays and yet, the sincerity of the chef and the skills of preparing the dishes touches each and everyone's heart that draws crowd to this eating house.

Located at the street of Geylang, it is not too difficult find the eating house. The eating house has been there for a long time and it has been passed down to the second generation from the old chef himself. Now the 2 younger chefs are in charge of the kitchen now. With no secret recipe, all home cooked style of food, it really gives one the homely feel. Nothing special, just home cooked food. Full stop.

I'm very honoured to attend this food tasting session with OpenRice and out of the 8 dishes, we tried 5 dishes that day! Overall, there are some WOW and some Boo for me la. But i can there are more WOWs than Boo for me. =)

Dish 1 : Watercress Pork Ribs Soup ($12) . Cantonese are very famous for the soup. they love soup for dinner and they are very good in brewing soup too. The pork ribs are so well cooked that you can see that the meat is very soft ( all become pieces) when you scoop up the meat and veges together.

Prawns with Tofu ($20)- This is my favorite dish of the night. The toufu is really soft despite that it is deep fried. the prawns are huge but sadly i feel that it is overcooked as the meat is pretty tough. the "zap" aka the sauce is very good and taste good with just a bowl of plain rice.

Minced Pork with Salted Fish ($12) - this is a very old school dish but still, eating at Sik Wai Sin makes it so refreshing. Why? The pork is very smooth and the salted fish is not too much to the extend that it covers the taste of the pork. although it doesnt give me the WOW, but it reminds me of home cooked food.

Sliced Beef with Kailan ($20) - Cooking beef needs alot of skills especially if it is overcooked, it taste very hard and if it is undercooked, the meat will be super bloody and probably even the veges that comes with it will taste of the blood. This dish apparently is my 3rd fav, second to the minced meat with salted fish. The beef is thinly cut and not overcooked however, the beef is too big for one mouthful bite ( i prefer it smaller).

Song Fish Head with Bean Paste ($25) - this is the featured dish of the night. Song fish, is a fresh water fish and it is quite difficult to prepare the fish (removing the fresh water taste). but this dish, it really caught me by surprise! with alot of pork lard and the bean paste, the fish doesnt have any "fresh water" taste at all! the fish is also super fresh!

Baba Wins' is a small, unassuming restaurant that is hidden at a small corner in the shopping mall, The Star Vista. I was pleasantly surprised by its good food and sincere service. Here is what we ordered:

Chinchalok Omelette - $8: Seriously, if you ask me to eat chinchalok alone, I'd rather die than eat it because I find the taste pretty weird. I was very skeptical on how this dish will turn out as previously I already had a phobia of the chinchalok smell and taste. However, this dish turn out pretty well and I quite like it as the egg is very soft, there isn't strong taste of the chinchalok but yet you know it is chinchalok la.

Assam Fish w Lady's Finger - $10.50: This is the dish I actually have cravings for. I wanted to eat something sour and spicy lol. But I was a little disappointed with the fish that they used. Maybe if they'd use batang fish, this dish will taste differently or maybe this is the original Peranakan dish. The assam soup is really appetizing to go with rice.

Kang Kong - $8: The chef is pretty nice to come and explain that the red chilli is actually for decorations and is not spicy at all (because previously I asked if the sambal kangkong will be very spicy)

Additional items on the receipt include Rice - $2 and Lemongrass Drink - $3. I appreciate the very sincere service staff comprising of only the waitress and chef. The chef came out of the kitchen to serve us the food while the waitress was taking order from other table before returning to the kitchen to cook. The place is rather small that sits less than 30 pax at the same time. The dishes on the menu is limited but I guess you only need a few good ones to get returning customers. The price is also reasonable. Will I come again? Yes, and I intend to bring my parents too!

It been a while since i visit Beauty world centre. This place is a super old shopping centre that used to be very famous and popular. They are also well known for food at their food centre that is located at the top level of their mall.
little i know that there are also new restaurants open there now. there are 2 korean restaurants next to each other and this time round, i try JooMak as it is highly recommended by my colleague.

The food is pretty good and reasonably priced. i tried their korean pancake, black bean noodles and their fried chicken. personally i love their korean pan cake and the black bean sauce noodles. the fried chicken is a little too dry for me.
As usual, they usually serve a lot of side dishes like kimchi..and is refillable.

Black bean sauce noodles ~ $12 (small). this one taste better than the one i tried at lotte world haha. despite this is cooked in Singapore. The noodles is very Q and the black bean sauce is just nice.

Korean seafood pancake -$15 Super generous with the ingredients. Not too oily and you can taste the egg with lots of seafood in each bite. thumbs up

fried chicken ~ $20 (half). i ordered the original version but they also do offer the sweet & spicy season chicken / garlic soy sauce seasoned chicken / sliced green onion seasoned chicken with mustard sauce too. the chicken outer crust is too dry for me but overall the chicken is ok

Another type of Chicken Hotpot Cry May 05, 2014

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

A Hong Kong Cafe located at #B1 of Nex is not difficult to spot with its long queue and the open concept style of dining. They put on a "wow" attracting poster selling Chicken Hotpot that make us wanting to try and see if there are any difference from the original chicken hotpot (which is at level 2 of Nex).
They serve pretty decent priced set meal starting from $33.80 which consist of a chicken hotpot, plate of veges, soup, dim sum. U can also order their signature milk tea @ $3.00 each.
Their soup of the day ~ Dong Gua (Winter melon) soup. slightly too bland for me especially i expected a much stronger taste for Cantonese type of soup.

Butter lettuce vege with mushrooms - nothing special. it is just poach vege with oyster sauce.

dim sum - apparently their dim sum is pretty good. i love the siew mai despite i m not a siew mai lover.

their chicken hotpot ~ seriously, i still prefer the original one although this one still taste as good after they added soup into the pot (the original one, soup will taste more bland if u add more soup). this one you probably cannot add anything to cook with it. just pure soup.
