Jumbo Chicken

The Café Cartel ( Serangoon )
It was on a weekday that I had lunch here. Fortunately there wasn't a crowd and my orders came quite soon. I ordered their set lunch at $9.50 which comes with soup, iced-peach tea, free flow of bread, main course and their dessert of the day. My main was a jumbo-chicken set which came with french fries and salad. The chicken was nicely roasted I must say..it would be my new favorite at cartel other than their prime ribs! Dessert of the day however, was not to my liking. Just a mini swiss roll which I skipped.

Yam Bao
Just OK 2011-05-25

Bao Tian - S11 Coffee Shop ( Jurong East )
Its been awhile since I came by this area for breakfast. My friends and I decided to try this shop for their baos since they had an interesting name. I ordered a mini yam bao to try and it was delicious. The yam paste was sweet and warm which satisfied my cravings. The purple colored bao is cute in size! Nice as an afternoon tea snack as well since its not too filling.

CharSiew Bao
Just OK 2011-05-24

Chun Bao ( Ang Mo Kio )
One morning, I decided to buy some baos for breakfast takeaway. I ordered my favorite charsiew bao and fortunately, there wasn't a long queue. The bao was warm and moist and the stall vendor was polite and friendly. The char siew fillings in the bao was pretty average but it was tasty eating it while it was fresh and hot. I have this habit of tearing out the outer skin layer of the bao before eating..a bit troublesome but its just personal preference.

Fish Fillet OnStik
Just OK 2011-05-24

Old Chang Kee ( Tampines )
Old Chang Kee has a chain of outlets in Singapore. This afternoon, I happened to pass by their shop and decided to have a snack. I ordered the 'fish fillet onstik' which was quite a safe choice! The fish fillet was golden and crispy on the outside, while the fish was still soft and warm in the inside. Costs me $1.60 though..an occasional fried food indulgence!

Sugar Cane Juice
Just OK 2011-05-13

Ah Li Fresh Fruit Juice ( Woodlands )
Can't remember when was the last time we had sugar cane juice. My folks and I decided to go with sugar cane juice while ordering for drinks. The sugar cane was freshly squeezed and it was a perfect drink on a hot blazing afternoon. No additional sugar was added since the sugar cane itself was already sweet. I heard that it is a tropical grass packed with many vitamins and antioxidants! A healthier alternative to canned drinks!

The Ice Breaker ( Ang Mo Kio )

It was a very warm afternoon and we decided to order some drinks while waiting for our food to arrive. I ordered a can of kikapoo, long time since I've had it! My friend ordered some QOO drink. These drinks are seldom offered at fast food outlets so we like it for a change. The Kikapoo was cool and refreshing and it tasted very much like 100-Plus lemon flavor, only thing that it tasted sweeter.

McChicken
Just OK 2011-05-08

McDonald's ( Woodlands )
Its the weekend again and I decided to stop by McDonald's for a quick tea break! Ordered the $2 McChicken burger and asked for extra chili sauce. The burger was served warm and fresh, toppled with slices of lettuce inside. The patties are not too tough but juicy and moist. Hopefully McDonald's offer more choices for their $2 burgers!! Double cheeseburger and McChicken is not a sufficient variety!! tongue

Double Cheeseburger
Just OK 2011-05-01

McDonald's ( Sembawang )
We happen to pass by mac's one afternoon and decided to grab a double cheeseburger for takeaway. Fortunately, there wasn't a very long queue at this outlet. The double cheeseburger is still priced at $2. A happy thing to note since its pocket-friendly! The burger tasted warm and yummy. Staffs at McDonald's were friendly.

blueberry bread
Just OK 2011-04-30

Mayson Bakery ( City Hall )
Located near carrefour at suntec city, Mayson Bakery offers various pastries and soft buns fresh from the oven. They were having a promotion for their soft buns at $1 each and I bought one blueberry bun to try. The bread was soft although there weren't much fillings inside; just a few pieces of raisins. It was toppled with some blueberry jam and fine sugar, the bun was very nicely presented.

Red Bean Pancake
Cries 2011-04-22

Pancake - North Canteen ( Ang Mo Kio )
As compared to Jollibean, the min jiang kueh here is average. I decided to try their red bean filling since I have always been having the usual peanut version. As I ordered for takeaway, the pancake was no longer crispy by the time I reached home. The jiang kueh was too thick in my point of view and it lacked the springiness. Also, the red bean filling was dry and it tasted not sweet enough. Not ever gonna get my pancake fix from here in future.sad

Roasta Burger
Just OK 2011-04-19

KFC ( Balestier )
I have heard the raves about KFC Roasta Burger, but when I finally tried it today, I thought it was average. Nevertheless, I would think its a healthier choice since its a non-fried burger! The chicken fillet is skinless and it is not too oily. It is topped with lettuce and tomatoes that gives an added crunch. Costs $5 now (student special), together with a regular whipped potato and pepsi drink.

funnel cake sticks
Cries 2011-04-16

Burger King ( Rochor )
Lately, Burger King had this new sampling addition to their menu- funnel cake sticks. I guess they were inspired by the French toast sticks but it was really not to my liking. The golden brown dough, slightly crispy, was topped with a generous portion of fine sugar. Tasted very much like sugar doughnuts except that it came in a cigar-shaped size. Should have ordered my regular fries instead of this heavy tasting dough. Tastes kinda wrong.

Fish Burger!
Smile 2011-04-15

McDonald's ( Balestier )
Since primary school, my favorite burger has always been the classic fish burger at mac's. Today was the first day of their 'buy one get one free' fish burger promotion and there was not much of a crowd at this outlet. My friend and I decided to buy their fish burger since it was cheap and promising. The burger was nicely packed and it was even yummier when eaten warm. The fish was crispy and their cheese is not too salty. No wonder kids find it hard to resist at McDonald's!

Affordable Jap Buffet

Tarafuku Restaurant ( Somerset )
One Friday afternoon, we settled for lunch at TARAFUKU. Located at the basement of Somerset 313, the restaurant was almost full house when we came at around 1plus. The food was ok for the price of $15.80++ (student/ senior citizen price). Their sushis were quite fresh except for the lack of variety. Also, the replenishment of sashimis were quite slow. It would be better if they could cut down on the usual fried items like chicken wings and offer more variety for sushi!! The handrolls were delicious too and they should have it displayed rather than made to order. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the unique variety of desserts. My favorite was the green tea cake toppled with red beans and fresh cream. Service was fine although some of their staffs don't really wear a smile; they were actually quite helpful and ensured that our plates were cleared promptly.

Solo Rolls
Just OK 2011-03-22

Bengawan Solo ( Upper Thomson )

One afternoon, I chanced upon Bengawan Solo and decided to get something for tea. Their kueh kuehs looked really colorful but I eventually settled for this humble swiss roll. Chocolate flavored supposedly but it was just the difference in coloring. They also have pandan flavors and whatever flavors you can presume. The swiss roll was fresh and the cream was buttery. Not too thick but just right. Perfect to go with a cup of tea and you'll be ready to roll..
