 the stall

   Ikan Penyet

Came to this food court to explore after facial. Was checking out all the stalls and basically they sell the same food as in other food court but only to find this indonesian stall a bit different. They sell mee soto to ikan or chicken penyet and I ordered the ikan penyet, they used black promfet and it was fresh and well fried along with crumbs splattered on top of the fish, crispy and yummy.
I was given a choice whether to have the plain rice or chicken rice which I chose the latter. The rice was so fragrant with ginger and garlic and really nice.
The set was at $5.50.

Nasi Padang

   nice

Always enjoy nasi padang and today I bought from this stall. Usually only a few varieties available and the cooked dishes were of small portion, as if those of a spread on our table at home. And probably due to this that attracted many to this stall.
As usual I had the beef rendang( tender and less vein), hairy gourd(plain yet tasty) and a begedel(not oily), and then splashed with some assam gravy over the rice.
Nice food and the packet of rice was $4.00.

Wanton Noodle Soup

This stall has been around for years and the taste and quality of it has been consistent. I came tonight to have a wanton noodle in soup with only wanton at $2.50 a bowl. Loved the QQ texture of the noodles as though made with heaps of eggs!
The soup base was good, simple and clear. The wanton's filling was good, smooth minced meat marinated well and could taste it had rice wine in it. Nice!

Custard with Salted Egg Bun
Smile 2012-09-18
Food Republic, Bao Today ( Telok Blangah )

   nice

A friend of mine is always keen on chinese desserts and sweets, so these baos couldn't escaped him when he spotted them at this stall. He ordered 2 different kind, one was the black sesame paste and the other was custard with salted egg for us to try too.
The latter one was better in taste and smoother in texture and slightly runny and where else the formal was drier and actually the taste was not bad also.
Worth the try, each around $1.50

Pu Tien - Food Republic ( Telok Blangah )

It was a long queue and have not try anything from Pu Tien before and thought will give it a try. We ordered the seafood mee hoon and it was at $8.50 a plate, very dear indeed, looking at the portion.
Took the first bite and just fell in love with it! It has wok hei, the mee hoon not soggy at all, the ingredients were fresh and the taste was really nice. After that I did think it was worth the money since it was this good. tongue

Fried Hokkien Noodle
Just OK 2012-09-14
Food Republic, Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle ( Telok Blangah )

 frying process

After a day of 'sampling' food trail and came dinner, we decided to settle it at Food Republic.
I love to eat fried hokkien noodle but now I'm more careful of it because of cholesterol, and once in a long long time then will I indulge in one and tonight I had craving over it.
So I got a small plate of noddles at $4.50 and the taste was normal, the gravy didn't taste prawnly enough and just passed on as another ordinary fried hokkien noodle. They gave around 3 prawns and can hardly find any squid or meat in it, the chilli was nothing special too.

A friend told us that their biscuits were nice and worth the try. So I tried the half salty and half sweet flavor which was popular as I was told by the sales staff. Per piece at $1.00.
It was without lard and so not as oily as those usual ones and yet the texture was not rough, tasty and the sweetness and saltiness were well balanced. The pastry skin was good and flaky too. Worth the try.

The half boiled eggs and the kaya toast was one of the food we had while we were at this hawker centre. This food has always been well accepted regardless of age and the kids were glad to order this to eat. The eggs were nicely cooked in perfection and the toast was toasted and spread with the aromatic kaya and butter. We ordered separately and not a set and it costs around $1.70 along with a plate of 4 chwee kueh .

Iced Ginger Tea & Kueh

 so so only

 shop front

We targeted to take a rest here after all the eating at lunch to have a drink. Most of us ordered the teh halial, but I have a iced one instead at $2.50 per glass. It was strong in ginger taste and definitely feeling revived after this refreshing drink. Then we had this kueh that the staff recommended and said that we will like it. No, we didn't like it, can't really described what was wrong with it, maybe just that we didn't expect this kind of taste in a kueh, but their drink was really good.

Sorry, a picture on the drink was accidentally erased from camera.

Sacher Cake

Beschle Chocolatier ( Orchard )

   nice

Was eyeing on this Sacher Cake among the Swiss chocolates at this chocolate kiosk as they were having a 20% promotion on it. I was explained by the counter staff of the content in the cake etc and decided to try it out.
It was really good, the chocolate covering was thick and slightly bitter in taste and the cake had a layer of chocolate mousse along with a layer of raspberry puree filling that complimented well and made it not too sweet. Very satisfying if having a sugar rush. A piece at $9.80.

Chicken Rice ( Commonwealth )

   nice

Normally I would only eat chicken rice with steamed white chicken and seldom will I want the roasted chicken, but this store I will definitely have their roasted chicken. Their rice tasted really nice, aromatic and the rice grain was so well cooked, not overly oily or wet. Their roasted chicken were well roasted and not much of chicken fats too and the chilli was good too, really enjoyed it.
At $3.00 a packet.

Soya Bean Drink
Smile 2012-09-12
Soya Bean Milk ( Raffles Place )

   not bad

We were eating and munching with many different kind of food here ranged from mild to spicy. Finally all of us needed a drink to ease our thirst and dryness of the throat and some of us settled for a cold soya bean drink.
A cup at 70 cents and it certainly did help to cease the heat from the food as well as the weather. The taste was normal and thankfully not diluted in taste.

Mee Goreng

   spicy hot!

We were ordering an assortment of food and the mee goreng was one of them. It was really spicy chilli hot but the taste was good. The ketchup sauce used on it were different from the usual ones, it tasted more liked tomato paste instead, quite rich in flavoring. They were generous with the minced beef also, we managed to finish all despite the spiciness.
A plate of it at $3.50.

Sunrise Traditional Coffee & Toast ( Raffles Place )

   bao

We were on a food trail since lunch time and I got the kids to learn to get the food that they were interested at and easy to handle. Few came back with different kind of really easy finger food and this pau was one of them. 3 pieces for $2.40 and they finished the pau in no time.
They commented that it was okay only and the filling was not too sweet and the the skin of the pau was thick.

   steak pie

Was curious with the pies so I got one of the steak in guinness(cooked in stout) to try. It was at $4.50 a piece, a bit steep but thought just make a try. I had it heated up in the oven before eating and it smelled so good, strong aromatic beefy smell and when eaten, the beef was so tasty and tender and the shortcrust pastry was butterly and not messy. Nice and will try the other flavor the next time.
