Bangkok Jam OK Jan 09, 2014

Located at the new extension of Plaza Singapura, Bangkok Jam is serving authentic Thai Food with a modern twist.
The Restaurant

The Restaurant

I liked the modern bistro style kind of interior of the restaurant with items that makes you feel that you are Thailand, for example, the signage written in Thai.
Menu

Menu

Seafood Clear Tom Yum Soup

Seafood Clear Tom Yum Soup

Seafood Clear Tom Yum Soup ($7.90++) - Don't be fooled by its clear appearance, the tom yum soup was actually very spicy. With a very strong lemon grass flavour, the tom yum soup consists of 2 prawns, squids and a few slices of fish which were quite fresh. However, the serving was quite small.
Fried Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce

Fried Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce

Fried Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce ($9.50++)

The chicken wings were deep fried before frying with fish sauce. The taste of the fish sauce was quite mild, leaving a little of sweet taste. The chicken wings were tender, juicy and goes well with the sweet & sour chilli that comes with it.
Seafood Phad Thai

Seafood Phad Thai

Seafood Phad Thai ($11.90++) My wife is a phad thai lover and she found that the taste was just right. The noodles were springy and well flavoured by the chilli flakes, peanut and sugar.
Stirred Fried Minced Chicken with Basil

Stirred Fried Minced Chicken with Basil

Stirred Fried Minced Chicken with Basil Leaves ($11.90++)It was served together with a fried egg and white rice. The minced meat was a bit too salty for me when eaten on its own. But with the white rice, it was quite good and savory.

Verdict : While the food are nice, I would think that they would got to improve on their service. I had to ask for 3 times before they served my iced water which I requested for at the point of order. If the restaurant is fully occupied, I will definitely be more understanding. However, we had our meal near to their closing hours and there were definitely more serving staffs than diners. One thing for sure that they are quick was to present us our bills after the last order.

Scrummy Grill & BBQ  Smile Dec 01, 2013

Categories : Steaks and Grills | BBQ

Hidden among a few block of HDB flats in MacPherson, Scrummy Grill & BBQ is offering western cuisine at very affordable prices.

Within a few minutes walk from Tai Seng MRT, the restaurant had a very homely and cosy feel. You would able to see a wall full with pieces of cute drawings. My wife and i enjoyed the decor very much. We really felt like having dinner at home.

Mushroom Soup

Mushroom Soup

Mushroom Soup ($3.90) It was a bit watery compared to those normal cream of mushroom soup. However, it had a very strong mushroom flavor. You could see and taste the bits of diced mushrooms and fresh mushrooms while drinking the soup!
Tortilla Chips with Salsa Sauce

Tortilla Chips with Salsa Sauce

Tortilla Chips with Salsa Sauce ($2.50) A recommendation by the waiting staff. According to him, the salsa sauce was home made and indeed it was. It was kind of sourish and with a little bit of spiciness. There were bits of diced tomatoes and capsicums in the sauce and it added on to the texture while eating it together with the tortilla chips. Simply appetizing!
Basey Salmon

Basey Salmon

Basey Salmon ($9.90) 3 sticks of juicy & tender salmon belly which was grilled perfectly. The surface might be a bit charred from the grilling, the salmon still remains its softness and juiciness. It also had a mild taste of herbs. You can choose either Pasta or Pancetta Rice together with the fresh salad as sides. The Pancetta Rice is a must try. The texture was not too soft nor hard. In fact, it was quite chewy and comes with a mild taste of saltiness from the pancetta.
Rib Eye Steak

Rib Eye Steak

Rib Eye Steak ($15.90) Perfectly grilled to my preference (I requested for medium), the rib eye steak was juicy and tender despite of the slightly charred surface. The black pepper sauce was very tasty and compliments the steak (Just that it was a little bit to spicy. So for those who cannot take spicy stuff, you may wish to go for their brown sauce). The sides which consists of boiled vegetables and mashed potato. The mashed potato was soft and had a buttery taste.

Verdict: The food was great and the service was really good (They do not charge GST & service charge!). With the homely decor and surroundings, it is definitely a place to recommend to friends and family!

PS: They are running a promotion (15% off all ala cart items) . Simply just flash the coupon on your mobile (which you could find in their listing on OpenRice Website) to enjoy the discount like I did!

Brewbaker's Kitchen & Bar Smile Nov 26, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Located at the basement of Anchorvale Community Centre, Brewbaker's Kitchen & Bar will be the choice if you are looking for a quiet and serene environment to dine in or for gathering. It might seem a bit out of the way but it is actually quite accessible. You may choose to take the LRT (to Farmway Station ) or a taxi ( just about 5 mins ride) from SengKang MRT Station.

New signboard spotted! This is not the first time that I patronized this restaurant. In fact, I was here quite a number of times when they are still serving the old menu (about the same as those offered in Jack's Place. Well , they are both from JP Pepperdine Group anyway). Now, Brewbaker's had revamped their menu which offers Japanese Western Fusion cuisine. I would suggest to sit at the alfresco area as the restaurant is just situated next to the Punggol River which you will enjoy cool breeze and the view of the river which my wife and I did.
Lobster Soup

Lobster Soup

Lobster Soup ($5.80++) One of the creamiest soups that I had and with flakes of lobster flesh, the soup had a very strong "prawny" taste and the garlic bread that came with it really supplement the soup well!
BBQ N.Z Beef Ribs

BBQ N.Z Beef Ribs

BBQ N.Z Beef Ribs ($21.00++) Served with salad and potato wedges, this huge meaty beef ribs is really a must try for meat lovers. Marinated with BBQ sauce and grilled to perfection, the meat was still very tender & juicy despite of the charred surface. It also has a sweet aftertaste which i supposed it was due to the BBQ sauce. The portion was quite huge and I would recommend 2 persons to share if you are not a big eater like I am.
Carbonara Udon

Carbonara Udon

Carbonara Udon ($12.60++) This is kind of an east meet west fusion dish. Instead of using the normal pasta, it was cooked with Japanese udon which was much thicker and spongy ( which adds on to the texture), together with bits of bacon, strips of crab sticks and a sunny side up. The carbonara sauce was rich and creamy but not too overwhelming. If you like it spicy, i would suggest that you add the Japanese Chilli pepper and it tasted really good!

Overall, the food was good and service from the service crew was prompt. However, what I enjoyed most was the serene atmosphere away from the bustling city that greatly enhanced my dining experience!

Disappointing Cry Jan 13, 2014
Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Halal

It had been quite a while since i patronized Swensen's. I can still vividly remembered that not just they served good ice creams , they also served good food. However, my recent visit to Swensen's proved me wrong.

Deep Fried Shitake Mushrooms - I guess the mushroom were over fried. It was quite dry and cant really taste the mushroom flavour.

Baked Spaghetti Bolognise with meat balls - One of the better dish among the dishes i ordered. The sauce was quite savoury and the meat balls were chewy and flavourful.

Fish & Chips - Supposed to be one of their signature dishes but it was such a disappointment. It was way too dry and it was quite tasteless.

Not as good as Jack's Place Cry Jan 02, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Fusion | Steaks and Grills | Halal

I had been a regular visitor to Jack's Place and had always fancied the food. Eatzi Gourmet is kind of the Halal version of Jack's Place which they served almost the same menu. However, the standards really differ too much.

Lobster Bisque - Way too watery and salty. The soup tasted too prawny like almost abit fishy. Totally different from the one that i usually had at Jack's Place.

Lamb Shank - tasted ok but was disappointed that the mashed potato that was served together had turned sour.

Verdict : Visit to Jack's Place, Yes. Coming back here? NO.
