Xin Cuisine's Mooncake Smile Aug 21, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hotel | Dim Sum

Was invited to the moon cakes food tasting by OpenRice at Xin Cuisine, Holiday Inn Atrium. A great hospitality to the guests from Holiday Inn as not only they provided the star of the night - moon cakes for the guests to try, there's also some really good bite size food available.

Tried their signature roast duck, scallops, chicken roll and roasted pork. My favorite is definitely the roast duck as the meat is roast perfectly and the meat is so tender and soft. High possibility that I will be back for the sake of this roast duck dish. The roasted pork belly is done nicely too. Though I am not a fan of that but still, I think it is one of the best I had tried.

One of the highlights of this food tasting is definitely the wines! We got the privileged to sample some really good red and white wine together with the moon cakes. I would say that my favorite is the Riondo Prosecco with its fruity and bubbly texture, pairing it nicely together with either the snow skin moon cakes or traditional moon cakes.
The boxes are so attractive!

Honestly this is the first time I tried the moon cakes from Xin Cuisine and it was good! Even better than the one I used to get from some other hotel. I love their custard egg yolk traditional moon cake. It is sweet and not too thick thus you don't feel very jelat after that. As for the snow skin moon cake, my favorite are the black sesame paste with peanut and chocolate and also the peranakan durian.

Overall a enjoyable night with good desserts and wine and company!

YUMMYLICIOUS FOOD! Smile Jul 09, 2013

Categories : American | Bars/Lounges

Introduced by my lovely colleagues, I decided to lunch here as I've heard about the really cheap and awesome food served here at Jamboree Bar. It is call bar with a reason cos the beer here is really indeed very dirt cheap. Cost only $4.90 from 11am - 6pm, not even $5! Happy hour wise is even more cheap than outside, it only costs $6! A place to consider to chill out after work!

I had the Fish & Chips Set which comes with soup and drinks and guess what? It only costs $16! Note that the price is NETT, so you don't have to worry about 7% GST and 10% Service Charge even though the service is not up to standard. The fish and chips is beer battered and guess what? The beer taste is so fragrant and make the whole dish sweet! It is also very crispy yet soft inside and the combination is so yummy yummy!

The soup wise is nice too! Add more pepper and salt for more flavors! Too bad it can't be refilled not I will definitely have many many many bowls of it!

DURIAN PANCAKES Smile Jul 03, 2013
Categories : Malay | Singaporean Chinese

Located just next to the crazy long queue money changer at Chinatown's People Park Complex, this has got to be the best durian pancake you ever get for just... $1.50 - $2. They even have the option of having the normal size one or, if you are feeling very 'durian-ish' that day, you can even upsize the durian pancake to the JUMBO size (which really is, very gigantic).

I had the durian jumbo pancake one of cos, since their specialty is the local favorite, DURIAN. If you doesn't want your mouth to stink after savoring the pancake (or don't make it even more stinky from your original stinky mouth...) you can opt for the other exotic flavors available there. Go see for yourself and decide what you want!

Anyway back to the pancake. The pancake skin is very extremely crispy! I don't know the super friendly lady boss do it but it just taste sooooo crispy till you can hear the "crack crack" sound when you bite into it. Not those very thick pancake skin you buy from outside, cos you will just taste the flour taste and not the star of the food, DURIAN. They are very particular about the quality of their durian used and will changed every now and then once there's negative feedback from their customers. At last a shop which listen to the feedback from the customers!

Well for the durian used, I love it. It is not very sweet like other places (sugar added!) but tasted very natural and original. The durian smell is strong but yet it smell so good (and taste too!)

Not a fan of pancake? Nevermind. They have durian tapioca (what!) too which taste as good. There's even all sorts of durian snacks available to satisfy your craving for durianssss!

Chicken Rice Smile Jul 03, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop | Chicken Rice

This had got to be my number one chicken rice in Singapore. Don't ask me why if you think it's not nice but I guess it's the taste bud problem. I just simply think this is the best chicken rice. Specially visited this place to cure my cravings and of cos it's a half chicken affair. I love the rice so I will normally ordered to plates and finish them off.

The white chicken is very extremely smooth and very juicy. I don't know how they make it in to so nice and the chicken flavors are being locked inside the tender meat. I like their way of serving the soup to their customers. It's a self service thing which you can refill your soup bowl as many times as you like and they will not show you nasty look (because they are busy you see... which shows how crowded it is)

At the end of the day, if you think your mouth stinks because of the garlic chili (or some other factors which makes your mouth have a bad smell...) they do provide mentos to their customers which I think is very thoughtful to get rid of your foul mouth smell!

SHABU SHABU SHABU  Smile Jun 12, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Buffet | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

Who doesn't love a healthy Japanese style shabu shabu with free flow of meats? I do, of course. As a big fan of steamboat, Suki-ya is by far one of my favorite place to satisfy my craving especially during those evil rainy days and you desperately need something to hot to warm your grumpy stomach. I first discover Suki-ya at a corner of Marina Square, but too bad it has closed down due to renovation. But thank God they are expanding their business and there's a branch which is quite near to me, at Bugis+!

So it is a serious affair between myself and Suki-ya. I walked in feeling very happy and immediately order 2 of my usual soup - the clear soup and kimchi soup. Though the kimchi soup does not taste spicy at all, I would still prefer it than their sukiyaki soup (not a fan of sweet soup). After that is the battle of picking my favorite sides and vegetables for the shabu shabu. Of course, Golden Mushrooms are something I will die for to have them put inside my pot of boiling soup. Followed by the Cheesy Cheesy Meatballs which the cheese will literally burst inside your mouth and burn your tongue if you are brave enough to pop the whole thing into your mouth. Finally, the meat. There's 3 meat to choose from - chicken, pork and beef. These meats are thinly sliced so that it will be cooked once you shabu it for like... 10 secs?

But to play safe, it is good to cook the chicken and pork thoroughly to prevent you from having diarrhea for nothing.

The ingredients are fresh and very worth the money. One can easily sit there and just eat the meat throughout without feeling guilty.
