Dim sum

Roland Restaurant ( Marine Parade )
I have always see this 'face' logo of this restaurant whenever I go for my grocery shopping at NTUC. The restaurant was tuck edaway in this multi storey car at Marine Parade. And I never expected this place to be so big. It seem to be popular for people to hold weddings and one month celebrations as there was a board of events display at the entrance.

I like the idea where push cart are used for dim sum as it remind me of restaurant which I visited in Hong Kong.It is quite hard to find such place in singapore and I am delighted when I see one in marine parade.

The porridge came in a middle size bowl. The quantity was just nice to fill half my stomach so that I can ordered other items. Like most places, the porridge was smooth and sweet tasting. Very traditonal taste...

The Chee Cheong Fun was great! It was abit thick but still very tender. I also like the idea that they give this vegetable with chee cheong fun, which also taste nice with the sauce.

Good place for family gathering as VIP are equipped with Karaoke system!! But I remember the waitress told me it has to meet a minimum spending.sad

Tip Top The Puff Factory ( Ang Mo Kio )
I heard of this curry puff for a long time but this was the first time I had tried it. The fillings are rich but it had a rather strong curry powder taste, and it tasted kind of spicy for me. There was not much chunk meat found in my puff , which I was rather disappointed as I always heard people telling me that the chicken meat was alot!. The egg slice was tuck in the corner of the puff , and I was expected it to be in the middle. Maybe my piece happened to be the 'faulty" piece as I can see other enjoying it.

Secret Recipe ( Orchard )
One of the trademark dishes of Secret Recipe chain when they first started out and I have not tried it for a long time. Decided to order this while waiting for my daughter's class to end. The gravy was still as savoury and rich and went well with the mash potatoes which was done well with great consistency and not lumpy. The lamb was tender and easily fell off the bone with a fork. With bread, the gravy complimented it perfectly.

Kim Peng Hiang ( Chinatown )
No more queue for me this year as I preordered and went there to collect it early. This is the one and only ba Kwa that I will eat when I had first tried this 3 years ago. They had just increased the price this year. But they do not increase prices during the chinese new year , so we are still paying the normal price. No preservatives was added to this ba kwa so the balance had to be kept in the fridge after 3 days to retain its freshness. Unlike other ba kwa that I have tried, this one consists of only lean meat, and thick lean meat. Imagine sinking your teeth into 5mm thick of ba kwa, that is the feeling I get each time I eat it. The sweetness is well balanced and each bite you take makes you want to have more, that you can easily finish an entire slice. The only thing stopping me from going for the second slice was the filling effect after eating one piece as well as fear of putting on weight smile Must try.

mee siam
Smile 2012-01-29
The Royals Café ( Siglap )
The mee siam was really shiok! Gravy was thick and fragrance and the bowl was large enough to fill my empty stomach in the morning. The meal comes with 1 complimentary tea/coffee, and it is refillable. This promotion is only meant for early birds who come in before 10 am on weekdays. I also like their toasted bread with cheese and ham. As the item was served hot, the cheese was "flowing" out when I sank a bite, just like eating pizza. Satisfying breakfast !

Prata
Smile 2012-01-29
Casuarina Curry ( Upper Thomson )
Best Prata that I had eaten! BUT the service at the place was quite bad. We went over after eating wanton mee from a couple of stalls down the lane, and we ordered just a few pieces of pratas to share. The service crew seemed to have a kind of snobbish look, which make us really uncomfortable. The tables and chair seemed to be kind of 'oily', and air con was not working well. I can feel the stuffiness in the restaurant even it was raining heavily outside...

The prata was served with this wonderful tasty curry and the prata stayed crispy even after it was dipped in the sauce. The longish prata does not come cheap, but difinitely worth paying.

Strawberry cake

Patisserie Glacé ( Tanjong Pagar )
This shop caught my attention on TV years ago, as Japanese cakes were not so common during then. It used to be located near chinatown, and thankfully that I happened to see their moving out notice when I went there to order cakes. Their cakes are light and spongy, and every piece of cake is nicely decorated. The cream is not so sweet , and I wouldn't feel "gelat" after eating 2-3 slices. YUM!

Jin Wee Restaurant ( East Coast Park )
This coffeeshop is famous for their fish head steamboat, and it was extremely crowded when I visited them during then. I waited for almost 1.5 hrs before food was served and that was the last time I visited them for their fish head steamboat. In the afternoon, this coffeeshop serves mixed rice. I like their selection of dish and the price is rather reasonable. I ordered the cabbage, chicken and tau po. I like their version of cabbage as it was really soft and juicy. Tau po was too saltish for me .. even when I eat with rice. Next time , I will definitely try their fish as I overheard that 1 whole piece of fish plus 2 side dish cost only $4.50!

Xin Wang Hong Kong Café ( Siglap )
I seldom will visit this place for the main meals but only will order their toasted/fried bread and dessert. The portion for dessert is really huge that can be shared by whole family and the ice shave for the dessert melts rather slowly .
My hubby had ordered their porridge as he was unwell. I took some to try and I really don't like it. It tasted like those instant porridge to me. There wasn't much ingredients in the porridge, which I feel it not worth paying for this dish at this place.
Will only reccommend this place for friend gathering.

masaman curry
Smile 2012-01-26
ThaiExpress ( Siglap )
Massaman curry was declared "World's Most Delicious Food" by CNN. So when I see this dish being served in Thai Express, I decided to give it a try. This is not quite commonly found in Thai Resturant locally. Most of the time, I only see green curry in the menu. The spice taste rather strong as compare to the green curry. The prata goes well with the curry and I think a bowl of rice might even suit better. I love their beef noodle soup. Not only I enjoyed the sweet tasting soup, I also like the tender beef slices. What a wonderful dinner.

Fried Oyster
Just OK 2012-01-11
New York New York ( Marine Parade )
My hubby wanted to eat ribs for a long time after watching the "Licensed to Grill" episode, so we decided to try the ribs at New York New York. We ordered the fried oyster for a start , and the oyster tasted rather stale. Thankfully that they had drizzled some wasabi sauce on top, or it would have really tasted quite awful. I do like the main course which I ordered for myself. The baked fish was great as it does not taste oily. I like the way my fish was done in this way. Feels healthier.

Yogurt pancake
Smile 2012-01-11
Minus 18C ( Marine Parade )
Was shopping around for my sister-in-law's birthday cake , and saw that this shop was selling yogurt cake. While I was waiting for her reply, I saw that they were having the promotion for the pancake yogurt. The pancake was done in a fish shape , and I waited for around 5 minute while they prepared the freshly made pancake. It tasted really great with hot pancake and the icy cool yogurt as your teeth is greeted by cold yogurt after sinking into the hot pancake. Recommended for people who love ice cream like me.

beef and chicken combo
Smile 2012-01-11
Astons Steak & Salad ( Somerset )
Was at Robinson shopping with my hubby, and we normally will go for the Korean food whenever we are there. But we decided to have a change for that day. We headed to Aston as we felt like eating western food. I didn't look at the menu before we entered, so I only come to realise that they served mostly beef. So I settled for the chicken and beef combo. The set comes with the soup of the day , main course and snapple drink.

I took the creamy soup while my hubby chose the clear soup of the day. He didn't really like the soup as it tasted rather blend, which I also agreed with that. The soup seem to come from the same stock , but only that cream is added to the creamy soup which set it to be different. The steak was good but I do prefered the chicken as my steak was too tough for me. Probably should have gone for medium instead of medium well instead.

Log cake
Cries 2012-01-11
Cedele ( City Hall )
I think christmas is one of my favourite hoildays which I really enjoyed myself. Besides turkey and ham, log cake is another food which I will not miss during this season. I was tempted to try this log cake from cedele after I received a brochure from them. As I find it rather expensive to purchase the whole cake just to try, so I decided to go for a slicechopstick.. the slice of log cake didn't come cheap either. And the taste was too rich for me ... so far this is the only cake from cedele that I do not enjoy. It was like eating those butter cream cake which I had not eaten for a long time...This is definitely not 'my slice of cake' sad

Ikea Café ( Tampines )
Ikea had stopped issuing plastic bag for customers for quite some time. And they even stop letting people to take away food at this restaurant. As a fan of their chicken wings and swedish ball, this was a bad news for me. I used to take away the fried chicken wings quite often last time. And I must say it still stayed juicy even after an hour or 2 when I reached home.

Swedish meatball do come in frozen packaging , and this can be purchased at their store near the exit. I have not tried before , but I do think it should taste as nice as the one that they sell at the restaurants. These are the 2 items that I will not miss when I goes there.
