cream cheese breads with raisin
Smile 4 days ago

Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude ( Tampines )

I saw quite a lot of people going in to this bakery and buying the breads hence I decided to enter the bakery shop as well. I haven’t had the chance to try out their breads so I was looking for something which I can have for breakfast the next day. My eyes caught this box of breads which are cream cheese breads with raisin. There are two types, one is darker and one is lighter which I think it could be due to the use of different types of bread flours. I got the darker bread which looks like it is wheat bread. Each box costs $2.50. The bread is really good. It is slightly chewy and the cheese filling is just right, not too overpowering nor too little. The raisins within the bread is also enough to give a burst of flavour when you bite into them. I would think this is a very good choice of bread to buy if you like cream cheese.

Chinese Vegetables Rice

Chang Cheng Chinese Vegetables Rice - Yung Sheng Food Court ( Taman Jurong )

I went out with my parents for dinner at the hawker centre nearby. We came slightly before 7pm, hence, we did not have difficulty finding seats. I ordered my dinner from the mixed vegetables rice stall as I saw quite a few dishes that I like. I chose bitter gourd, dark soya sauce chicken and braised beancurd skin. The bitter gourd is slightly bitter, but that is how I like it to be. The chicken is also nice, especially the gravy. I had requested for gravy on the side which I drizzled bit by bit into my rice, making it really tasty. The beancurd skin can be slightly bland for normal people, but as I don't take too salty food, I find the taste to be just right for me. Overall, it is an enjoyable $2.70 dinner.

Handmade Noodle - Gek Poh Food Court ( Boon Lay )
I went to Gek Poh food court for my lunch after buying some things from Prime. The food court is quite crowded at lunch time. I ordered the handmade noodles from this stall, there is tom yum soup handmade noodle as well for those who like it. I ordered the normal ban mian at $3. The portion is quite alright, there are also slices of lean meat in addition to minced meat which is quite unique as most stalls only have minced meat. However, I thought the portion could certainly be more. Otherwise, there is nothing not to like about this bowl of noodles.

prime sirloin
Smile 2013-05-05

Astons Express ( Rochor )
The group of us wanted to have western meals, and what better choice than to have it at Astons Express? It serves western style food like grilled chicken, dory and steaks without GST and service charge. I ordered the Prime Sirloin steak and went for the corn and potato wedges for my sides. The Prime Sirloin costs $13.50. The sirloin is cooked quite throughly but still maintaining its tenderness in that the steak is not too tough to bite. I love it with the sauce as the sauce is not too salty and helps to bring out the flavour even more. The corn is rather hard to eat but otherwise, it is quite sweet. The wedges are a delight as well as it is still warm and crispy.

Hokkien Mee
Smile 2013-05-05

Lai Heng Lakerieur Char Kway Teow - FEAST ( Boon Lay )

As most of the shops in Kopitham at the old Jurong Point are closed for renovations, we had little choice but to go to FEAST at Jurong Point 2 for our lunch. We decided on the Hokkien Mee since we saw many people ordering from that stall. Besides Hokkien Mee, there is also Fried Carrot Cake (white/black), Char Kway Tiao and Fried Rice. All go for $4 per plate. We ordered the Hokkien Mee to share. There are a total of 3 prawns in the dish. I would think the star is the noodles as it is very nicely fried with lots of rich prawn stock. It is the wetter kind of hokkien mee where you can slurp the noodles with a spoon. The only thing lacking is wok hei, the wok hei taste is not there which is a pity. The belachan chilli is available at the counter which you can add on any amount to your noodles.

teochew porridge
Smile 2013-05-04

Wei Ji Cooked Food ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )

I wanted something that is light for my dinner, so I decided to order teochew porridge from this stall. I ordered porridge and two sides to go with my porridge, which is cabbage and beancurd skin. The beancurd skin is really tasty with the braised sauce. I didn't attach the photo as it turned out blurry, but it is really nice. I also used the braised sauce for additional seasoning to my porridge. The cabbage is also delicious as it still retains its crunch and it is not too soft i.e. overcooked. More importantly, it is not too greasy. Sometimes when I order cabbage outside, it always feels very greasy, but not the cabbage here.

Egg Tart
Smile 2013-05-04

Tiong Bahru Pau ( Tiong Bahru )

I went to Tiong Bahru Pau at Jurong East for my breakfast last weekend. Although there are about 15 people in front of me when I joined in the queue, the queue moves quite quickly, so don’t be deterred by the long queue, because it is quite fast. I ordered two egg tarts for brunch later and for on the spot eating, I ordered the fan choy, har gow as well as siew mai to share between my mum and I. The items that we had there are good, but my favourite has to be this egg tart which we bought back home as takeaway. The egg tart is very smooth and eggy and it is not too sweet. The egg tart shell is also very delicious with a buttery fragrance to it. Each egg tart costs $0.90 which is quite reasonable since the egg tart filling is quite a lot and more importantly, it is delicious.

charcoal red bean pancake
Smile 2013-05-04

Jollibean ( Bedok )
I was feeling slightly hungry and decided to get a pancake from Jollibean to last me until dinner time. I bought the charcoal azuki red bean pancake which costs $1.20. The pancake is quite soft and the red bean filling is really delicious as I could still enjoy the texture of the azuki beans since it is not processed until smooth. In addition, the filling is of the right sweetness level, it is not too overly sweet nor bland. It is a good match for the pancake which is bland by itself.

chocolate egglet
Smile 2013-05-04

Hong Kong Egglet ( Orchard )
So far I have only eaten this once, so I was quite eager to try out other flavours as I enjoyed it the first time I bought it. The chocolate egglet is a popular choice, so I I decided to try it as well. It costs $2.50. They will also sprinkle some chocolate chips into the batter. I felt this is a very nice touch as this chocolate chips add a burst of chocolate flavour when you bite into each egglet shell. The taste isn't very sweet as well so you will not get sick after a few bites. It is really addictive and delicious and I finished the whole packet in no time. It is worth the 10 minutes waiting time.

sushi tei lunch
Smile 2013-05-04

Sushi Tei ( Bedok )

Recently, I went to Sushi Tei for my lunch. I was with a friend and we ordered our own dishes plus a dessert to share. I got the dai dai roll (which I think costs $12) for myself. It is sushi wrapped with mango and crabstick and there is also a salmon sashimi on top of the roll, and topped with flying roe. The sauce on top of the roll is wasabi mayonnaise and thousand island sauce. Eaten as a whole roll, it is very delicious. The flavours all complemented each other very well. I especially like the slight sweetness from the mango. Normally I will top it with more wasabi on the table top for an extra kick. The dessert we shared is the chocolate nama ice cream ($4.50). It comes in a roll form and it is really divine. A plate of 5 pieces to share is simply not enough!

delectable kuehs
Smile 2013-05-04

Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery ( Bedok )

There a lots of different kuehs from sweet to savoury in this shop, so you will definitely find something that you like here. I was quite spolit for choices and I got a variety of sweet and savoury kuehs as takeway. I loved eating the 9 layer cake since young, so I had to get it. There are two types, one is the nonya which is a brighter colour and the other is the normal one as pictured. I think the difference is the amount of coconut milk used. The one pictured probably has less coconut milk, and this is the one that I enjoy more. You can eat it as a whole or peel it off layer by layer to enjoy it. I also got the savoury kuehs like peng kueh and soon kueh back home. My family loved the savoury kuehs a lot as we finished it with no second helping!

Mix Vegetable Rice - S11 Food House ( Yishun )
It is during lunch hours and the queue at this stall seems the fastest, so I went to queue at this stall. I ordered two dishes for takeaway, bittergourd fried with egg and spicy gong bao chicken. This cost me $2.30. The chicken is quite well fried as the chicken was nicely coated with the gong bao sauce. The only thing I found lacking was the spice as it is not spicy enough. I love the bittergourd with eggs. The bittergourd that day was not very bitter, hence it is really nice, especially with the egg as the egg is quite creamy/runny as well. It is a nice and simple lunch which I don't mind having again.

glutinous rice cakes
Smile 2013-05-02

Crystal Jade My Bread ( Holland )

It has been quite some time since I bought these glutinous rice cakes from Crystal Jade. The prices have increased since the last time I bought. Now, each of these pancake costs $1.10. I bought a total of thress of these pancakes, one green tea with custard, one pumpkin and one black sesame. Of the three panckes, my favourite is the green tea pancake as the custard filling within the pancake is not too sweet and the taste goes very well with the chewy pancake. The pumpkin pancake is also quite nice, there are also some bits of pumpkin within the pumpkin filling. You will have to try it to see which one you like better!

216 Fried Carrot Cake ( Bedok )

I went to this hawker centre for breakfast during the weekend. As it is quite hot in the hawker centre, we decided to takeaway our orders. The queue is rather long, but we managed to get our orders within 15minutes. The carrot cake smelt really fragrant on our journey back home and the taste did not disappoint. The carrot cake is fried with a generous amount of egg and chai poh, making it really delicious. The carrot cake is also soft to the bite. I will definitely revisit for more!

almond pie
Smile 2013-05-01

Four Leaves ( Serangoon )
I wandered in to Four Leaves bakery while waiting for my friend to arrive. I was just browsing the selection of breads when I saw this almond pies. This looks very similar to something that I had in hong kong previously and I loved the taste of what I had previously. Hence, I decided to buy it and try it for myself. One packet costs $3.70. I am glad I got it, because the taste is really similar to the one that I had in hong kong. The "pie/biscuit" is very crispy and flaky and it is sweet as well from the light sugar coating at the top and a little salty for the rest of the layers of the pie. I would think it is best enjoyed on the same day to retain its crispiness. I would definitely buy it again!
