My choice of taiyaki
Smile 2011-04-29
Ooiki Taiyaki ( Serangoon )
I love love taiyakis from ooki taiyaki. They are generous with the ingredients, the pancake is crispy and light when its hot from the oven. This is not the first time I bought from ooki taiyaki. I always buy one home whenever I am in the vincity where their outlet is located (Bugis Junction). My parents got this from NEX. Currently, there is a promotion on the red bean flavour which is selling at 2 for $2 (org: $1.30 each), which is perfect for me since I love their red bean taiyakis, which have actual red beans together with the mashy red bean paste as fillings (as compared to pure red bean paste), plus its not too sweet. ooki taiyaki wins my votes for pancakes, everytime =)

Grilled fish with herbs
Smile 2013-04-21
Astons Express ( Ang Mo Kio )

I wanted something lighter on my palette, which makes ordering fish the natural choice since of chicken and beef, fish is the healthier option. The grilled fish portion was quite alight, the fish meat is very tender and the fish is sweet to the taste. It is grilled very well indeed to retain its moisture and tenderness. I opted for the baked potato side with garden veggies (not pictured). The baked potato definitely makes one very full because of the size of the potato plus the butter that is the accompanying condiment.

custard wassants
Smile 2012-03-19
Provence ( Holland )
It has been a long time since I was here at the Holland V outlet and I especially went early so as to be sure of getting my hands on the wassants. The service staff here are more friendly and usually greet you with a "good morning/afternoon" when you are paying for your bread and then thank you for buying from them.

There are three flavours of wassants to chose from: kaya, chocolate and custard. I bought two packs of 5 custard wassants and I finished one pack by myself at school. The wassants are very soft and fragrant if you consume it within the day, or better still, right on the spot after paying for it. It is really milky, buttery and very addictive. I had actually just wanted to eat one, but I could not help eating one after another because it is that tasty. In the end, I am only left with this one packet of 5 wassants which I took home for my family.

excellent service

Subway ( Clarke Quay )
Subway is often my choice for my lunch since it is a fuss-free and healthy meal. I have good impressions of this outlet because of the excellent service. I had ordered the 6 inch turkey breast sub for my meal as takeway. I absentmindedly forgot my wallet when I left the counter and the service staff was honest enough to chase after me to return my wallet. It is really great of him, so thumbs up for that. In addition, the service staff preparing my sub is also generous with the vegetables, placing quite a lot of lettuce and green chillis when I indicated I would like to have more.

With regards to my sub, I love the turkey ham as it taste more natural without excessive use of salt to process the meat. I always have my sub with the honey mustard dressing, which adds a little taste of sweetness to the sub. Overall, it is a very enjoyable meal because of both excellent service and food.

clam pasta
Smile 2012-03-19
Fig & Olive ( Telok Blangah )
It was my first time here at Fig & Olive and I took quite long in deciding what to order. In the end, I decided to order the clam aglio olio pasta, since I saw the waitress taking it out to serve another customer beside my table, and I was enticed by the appearance of the pasta. When it arrived, first impression is that it smelt really nice. The pasta is not over cooked so it is not soggy and it is very delicious. The clams are very fresh as well and are quite juicy. The seasoning for the pasta is also worth a mention. I felt that it tasted very authentic, perhaps due to the use of herbs. I liked the ambience of the restaurant as well and service here is generally good as the waitresses are attentive.

green tea donut

J.Co Donuts & Coffee ( Bugis )
J Co Donuts has a wide dazzling array of different donuts for everyone to choose from. I was picking between this and the coco loco (dark choc donut) but I eventually went for this. I chose to dine in since there is still very little people around as it was barely 11 in the morning. The donut is quite nice in my opinion. I love the taste of the green tea as I thought the green tea tase wasn't too artifical. The sweetness level is also just right. I enjoyed eating my donut and relaxing on their chairs.

freshly made peng kueh
Smile 2012-03-17
Ah Yee's Soon Kueh ( Joo Chiat )
I love the freshness of the kuehs since it is all freshly prepared on on the day itself. This helps to retain the qq nature of the skin of the kueh. I ordered the peng kueh or rice kueh. It is white in colour unlike those commerical ones which are pink. The kueh skin is thin and the stall is not stingy with their fillings. I love dipping the peng kueh into the sweet black sauce and the saltish chilli. The ingredients in the peng kueh are quite evenly spread out as well. I can taste mushrooms and shrimp in almost every bite.

Fire Floss
Smile 2011-12-24
BreadTalk ( Telok Blangah )
I was at Habour Front very early in the morning and Breadtalk had just opened for business a while ago. The bread that I am looking for, the fire floss is not prepared yet, but the baker was nice enough to offer to prepare one for me on the spot! That is certainly a plus to their service. Freshly baked bread always tastes so much more softer and better. I love the generous amount of chilli floss on the bread and the fluffyness of the bread. This is always one of my must order breads from Breadtalk!

dry ban mian
Smile 2011-09-12
Top 1 Homemade Noodle ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )
One of the another stalls me and my group of friends ordered from was this stall. We choose it because it is really unlike the other ban mians that we know of. Firstly, for the noodles, we have a total of 7 different homemade noodles to choose from. Their u-mian is really very thin unlike those that we have outside which are slightly fatter. This u-mian is really like the thin ramen kind, which is why we eventually chose this noodle. Then, we also get to choose what we want as our ingredients! We got the seafoods like prawn and the sliced fish. Another unique thing is that their ban mian can be dry! In fact, there is a sign on their store which says best dry mee. Since it is something very special, we opted for that as well.

The verdict on the food is that it is really as good as what it claimed to be. The ingredients are very fresh and are quite generous. More importantly, the noodles are really shiok. The stall uses a sweetish black soy sauce as the sauce for the dry noodles which is really good. Topped with fried shallots and fried ikan billis (small anchovies), it is really very satisfying on its own. It went down so well with all of us, we ordered another bowl of it!

old school pastries
Smile 2011-09-05
Chinatown Tai Chong Kok Confectionery (Hue Kee) ( Bukit Merah )
This is a "lao zhao pai", famous for its pastries and traditional baked mooncakes. However, there is another pastry which I particularly liked. I am not sure what is the actual name of it, but the filling is made of slightly saltish paste which I presume is mung bean. It costs only $1.30 for 4 pieces, which is really worth it. They do not include preservatives in their pastries, and this is no exception as well. Best consumed within 4 days, although my family and I always finish ours within 2 days.

value for money!
Smile 2011-06-29
Kim's Family Restaurant ( Bukit Timah (Postal Code:28) )
This is really the Korean restaurant to go to. With every order, they will provide up to 10 side dishes. And what is astounishing about this is that one of the side dish is actually a small fish and all sides are refillable (except for the fish). My mother and I really got a shock when we first visited this restaurant last year and seeing them pile so many of these little dishes on our table. We didn't know what to order on our first visit, so we got the spicy beef set to share and we ordered another bowl of rice. The spicy beef looks fiery, but it is really not that spicy. It is very well flavoured and goes very well with rice. The sides too - I like the kimchi and the lettuce (flavoured with a slighty spicy, sourish sauce) best. Thumbs up!

cream cheese breads with raisin
Smile 4 days ago
Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude ( Tampines )

I saw quite a lot of people going in to this bakery and buying the breads hence I decided to enter the bakery shop as well. I haven’t had the chance to try out their breads so I was looking for something which I can have for breakfast the next day. My eyes caught this box of breads which are cream cheese breads with raisin. There are two types, one is darker and one is lighter which I think it could be due to the use of different types of bread flours. I got the darker bread which looks like it is wheat bread. Each box costs $2.50. The bread is really good. It is slightly chewy and the cheese filling is just right, not too overpowering nor too little. The raisins within the bread is also enough to give a burst of flavour when you bite into them. I would think this is a very good choice of bread to buy if you like cream cheese.

Egg Tart
Smile 2013-05-04
Tiong Bahru Pau ( Tiong Bahru )

I went to Tiong Bahru Pau at Jurong East for my breakfast last weekend. Although there are about 15 people in front of me when I joined in the queue, the queue moves quite quickly, so don’t be deterred by the long queue, because it is quite fast. I ordered two egg tarts for brunch later and for on the spot eating, I ordered the fan choy, har gow as well as siew mai to share between my mum and I. The items that we had there are good, but my favourite has to be this egg tart which we bought back home as takeaway. The egg tart is very smooth and eggy and it is not too sweet. The egg tart shell is also very delicious with a buttery fragrance to it. Each egg tart costs $0.90 which is quite reasonable since the egg tart filling is quite a lot and more importantly, it is delicious.

charcoal red bean pancake
Smile 2013-05-04
Jollibean ( Bedok )
I was feeling slightly hungry and decided to get a pancake from Jollibean to last me until dinner time. I bought the charcoal azuki red bean pancake which costs $1.20. The pancake is quite soft and the red bean filling is really delicious as I could still enjoy the texture of the azuki beans since it is not processed until smooth. In addition, the filling is of the right sweetness level, it is not too overly sweet nor bland. It is a good match for the pancake which is bland by itself.

Hong Kong Egglet ( Orchard )
So far I have only eaten this once, so I was quite eager to try out other flavours as I enjoyed it the first time I bought it. The chocolate egglet is a popular choice, so I I decided to try it as well. It costs $2.50. They will also sprinkle some chocolate chips into the batter. I felt this is a very nice touch as this chocolate chips add a burst of chocolate flavour when you bite into each egglet shell. The taste isn't very sweet as well so you will not get sick after a few bites. It is really addictive and delicious and I finished the whole packet in no time. It is worth the 10 minutes waiting time.
