My last post on this stall is so long ago! I recently frequented this stall again and prices have increased. The pastry now costs $2 from $1.30 on my last review. Although it is much pricier now, I will still buy it since it is not often that I will be around this area. The size of the pastry remains the same and the taste is still as good as I have remembered. The filling of slightly saltish mung bean paste complements the exterior very well as the filling is soft while the exterior pastry is slightly hard. I wished I have gotten two packets of 4 though as the one pack is finished within the day of buying it.

The previous time, I had tried the aglio olio so I decided to try a different type of dish. My colleague who was a regular at tcc recommended me to try out the chicken and turkey bacon lasagne which he claimed was rather good. The dish is really cheesy, as seen from the generous amount of mozzarella cheese on top of the lasagne. There is also a cheese ring which is really nice, salty and crispy and it adds a very nice touch to the lasagne. The bulk of the ingredients are the chicken which is well marinated. The overall dish is not too overly salty or jialat from all the cheese and sauces which is great. Some lasagne are just too flavourful until I had difficulty in finishing it but this is just right. The portion is just alright for me but I think it may be slightly less for people with a larger appetite. Overall, I enjoyed my meal though the price is slightly expensive since it is just the dish itself and there is no coffee/tea or dessert.

As it is quite a hot day, I decided to have dessert at the hawker centre. The desserts here are rather affordable as the price range from $1.50 onwards and there are quite a lot of varieties of desserts as well. I ordered a bowl of ice jelly cocktail which costs only $1.50. The portion is slightly smaller than what I could get outside but since I am only eating it alone, the serving is just right. The ice jelly is slightly sweet and eaten with the ice and flavoured syrup, the sweetness level is just right. The cocktail is quite standard, it is probably canned fruit cocktail which are easily available at supermarkets. While the taste is just average, it is an affordable treat to cool yourself down on a hot day.

It was my brother's birthday and we got a cake from Rive Gauche. He had requested for something other than fruit cakes, hence, on the recommendation of the staff there, we got the Mont Blanc which costs $36. I think it is slightly less than 500g but since there are only five of us, the serving is just right. The cake is made of vanilla sponge cake with two different layers of chestnut filling and whipped cream. The top layer is the chestnut cream. It is a very special cake and the first cake that I have come across that uses chestnut. It is surprisingly good. The chestnut cream and whipped cream are very smooth and light tasting. It is not heavy at all and it is easy to polish of one slice of the cake. The balance of cream and cake is also appropriate. I could also taste chunks of chestnut within the cream which is quite a nice surprise since I enjoy eating chestnuts. Although the cake is slightly expensive, the taste makes up for it.

8Tarts N Pastries uses no lard in the making of their pastries, but if I wasn’t told, I wouldn’t have guessed as it is as tasty as those pastries made with lard. I ordered a box of 6 egg tarts in total, with a mixture of the original egg tart and durian egg tarts. Prices for the egg tart start from $1.40 onwards, which is actually quite expensive since the egg tarts are not very large. However, the taste more than makes up for it. I ate the durian egg tart and the durian flavour is very prominent and authentic since it uses the real durian flesh and not durian flavouring. I could taste bits of the durian flesh in the tart. The pastry crust is flaky and the thickness is just right. With every bite, there is a good balance of egg custard and pastry. Next time, I would love to try out their soya tarts. It was sold out when I went this time.
