Chen Fu Ji’s CEO Explains Hefty Bill Issue
2013-04-30
Everyone knows that at well-known Chinese restaurant Chen Fu Ji, you pay good money for good food. However just last week on April 25, a diner was charged over a thousand dollars more – about $5,900 to be exact – for a 20 pax dinner that was supposed to cost approximately $3,900. The woman took a snapshot of the bill (it was a voided transaction though) and took her complaints to a Facebook post, which went viral. In the post, she questioned why one person's share of Pu'Er tea could cost $80 and why a portion of fried rice was priced at $180 on the bill.
Believe it or not, that’s the size of the crab served at Chen Fu Ji
The issue was quickly resolved and clarified by Roger Koh, CEO of Chen Fu Ji, who explained that the initial $5,900 bill was an error made due to a computer glitch, which was confirmed by a software engineer. Additionally, according to Mr Koh, the cost of $80 for Pu'Er tea was charged at $4 each for 20 people, while the cost of $180 for fried rice was for 12 portions. In the end, the bill was recalculated to a grand total of $3,282.
