Remember that cronut craze which took the world by storm? It all started with Chef Dominique Ansel’s humble bakery in SoHo, New York. He came up with a half croissant and half doughnut pastry hybrid which had dessert lovers queuing up for hours just to have a taste of this famous treat. Because of its short shelf life (it’s best eaten upon order), it can’t really be imported outside the US so other countries like Singapore have come up with their own version. Though we’re grateful to them for giving us an idea of how it would taste like, we still want to try the original creation.

Looks good? Well, believe us when we tell you that it tastes even better. How could you resist a rich and creamy base topped with butter, sugar, and loads of cheese? While we can wait for our Filipino friends to buy these back for us when they go back to their home country, it would be much easier if there’s a physical shop we can get a load of these anytime.

Japanese chef Sadahara Aoki has made a name for himself by whipping up pastries which introduced Japanese flavours to traditional French desserts. The results are delectable creations which include the yuzu, red bean paste, and green tea macaron flavours. Though it has expanded to Tokyo and Taiwan since it started back in 2001, we’re still waiting for Chef Sadahara to set up his first outlet in Singapore.

Chocolate monsters may just die and go to dessert heaven if Demel, Austria’s longest and most popular pastry shop, ever decides to come to Singapore. Then, we can have a taste of its most famous Sacher Torte. The recipe has been kept a secret since it started operations in 1786; and even though it has been replicated over the years, this remains a world favourite.

Started by two influential people in the fashion industry, Cocomaya was born from their love of breads and pastries. The chefs use fresh and organic ingredients to come up with over 70 items gloriously displayed in their bakeshop. Oh, how we wish we can have a bite of their delectable goodies! But until then, we can just drool over this photo and keep wishing.
