I was hungry so I stopped by the nearby Kopitiam for a light bite. The set of eggs, toasted bread and coffee/tea is definitely more worth it at $2, but because I already had an egg for lunch, choosing the set will result in me eating 3 eggs which is too much, so I just ordered the toasted bread by itself without eggs or drink. The toasted bread costs $1.20. The spread inside is standard, kaya with a block of butter. The bread is toasted fresh, so it is delicious as the butter melts with the heat from the bread, making the toast very moist and tasty. The kaya used is quite sweet but it is not cloyingly sweet so I did not have problems finishing everything. If you are not particular about the kaya, I would think having the toasted set in kopitiams is definitely a more economical alternative than going to Ya Kun where the same set of eggs, bread and drink can cost more than $4. continue reading
