Located in an easily missed spot of Bukit Timah, this French Bistro also sells gourmet food like a mini mart. 3 course set lunch special. First up was appetizer Large chunk of tuna and a nicely poached egg seated in the centre. I'm not a fan of salads but the dressing kept me reaching out for more. beef "onlet" with ultra crispy fries. I love the fries! left: wasabi. mild compared to the jap version. right: complimentary walnut salad Duck confit. First time trying duck confit! It tastes really different from the chinese duck heh. The fats of the skin melts in your mouth and the skin is rather crispy. The potato puree has a very smooth texture. Sauce tasted a little like Chinese at first mouth hehehehe. Marshmallow dessert. This was too sweet for my liking so it's a no-no for me. I was tempted to try the desserts but was too full to proceed. You can never enjoy food when you are full So the next time then! Le Bon Marché means ‘The Good Market’ in French, and the name was inspired by traditional French markets that sell marvelous fresh harvested produce. Born and raised in Normandy, Chef Stephane Herve appreciates and emphasises the role of seasonality in cuisine – this is the core of his culinary philosophy. We tried several main courses and desserts and they did not fail to impress. For full review: www.dairycream.blogspot.sgMain: Sautéed Beef Onglet 200g $35With Shoestring Potato Fries, Shallots and Parsley JusThis was done medium and the meat was done just right to that wellness. Pinkish on the inside and the gravy was full of flavour. It was not as fork tender as I thought but at least not too tough. The fries were piled like a mountain!Special Main: French Lemon Sole Fillet with served with Butter Parsley Sauce and Baby Potatoes ($29)This was on their special menu and surprise!!! It came on a hot plate. The fish was very fresh as certified by black faced daddy who is picky about the freshness of fish. He commented that the freshness of the fish justified the cost. Though it came just with a side of baby potatoes in olive oil, the portion was filling enough. Their service was very comforting as one lady offered to ask the kitchen to debone the fish so that it is easier to eat but we declined the offer. The fish was lightly seasoned with herbs and so the dish was simple but tasty.Braised Berkshire Kurobuta Pork Neck ($32)On a bed of Wild Mushroom Ragout, Potato Purée and Mustard Seed SauceIt was a tough decision between this and their special main "pan roasted quail with French Black figs" but went for this as it was highly recommended. Yeps, it was indeed a right decision. The pork was wrapped in bacon and sits on top of a very smooth pureed potato and wild mushrooms ragout. Savoury comfort food that is not too overwhelming. The portion was just right as it leaves one room for dessert.Grand Marnier Souffle ($15)Though it takes 20min of waiting time, the souffle came and took me by surprise. It was the largest souffle I've ever seen. I really want to kowtow to the chef who made this as he must have whipped the egg white for so long that it managed to rise about 250% the height of the ramekin. Though this was not the tastiest souffle, it is the softest and most eggy souffle I've tasted. It is not marshmallow but like eating clouds. And the alcohol kick gives the dessert a booze that took me a while to get used to the taste. It was better after pouring in the hot chocolate sauceAll the staff there were very approachable and friendly, making this dining experience a memorable one. They also offer takeaway and catering services. The ambience was enhanced by the lightings and the French flag hanging down from the ceiling. continue reading

Le Bon Marche, used to be at Tiong Bahru ( next to CentrePs) and now they have moved to a new location at Alocassia Service Apartment. It along the main road, accessibility is a problem if you are driving.Le Bon Marche adopts a Bistro style, offering French cuisine while it’s neighbour, Al Borgo offers Italian. The bistro resembles a mini supermarket, where they carry all sorts of ingredients/ food for French cooking. If you are looking for French produce to whip up some French cuisine, get them at Le Bon Marche!Monthly set lunch menuMonthly set lunch/dinner available priced at $30++ and $48++.The prices here are on the higher side but you pay for what you get! You can enjoy fresh and seasonal produce. They can even prepare a platter of antipasti for a group/ family.Sauteed Vegetables ($10++)I can choose the types of veggies I prefer. This bowl of veggies has carrots, broccoli, sugar snap beans and butter beans. The butterbeans belongs to the family of long beans but it is slightly yellowish in colour, sweeter and softer.Pan Roasted Racasse Fish fillet ($32++)I was interested to try this ‘’ Racasse fish’’ and it turns out to be Scorpion fish. Did a goggle search and realized this fish is aptly known as Scorpion fish due to it’s venomous spines that can inflict a painful, even deadly, sting. It’s dangerous to capture this fish so I must savour it slowly. But, will the poison be passed to the person eating, I’m not too sure… cross fingers…xxScorpion Fish filletAnyway, the scorpion fish has a firm and lobster-like meat. The meat was rather mild but when you dip in squid ink sauce, it brings out a rich flavour. The braised fennel were so soft and melts in my mouth in every bite. There were pieces of sun-dried tomatoes in the couscous, It has been a long while since I had couscous and I like the combination. Verdict: You pay for what you get here ( the quality), I saw bottles of white truffles ( tartufu biano), black truffles carpaccio , white truffle cream … all the gourmet items, I wish I could buy all of them home. continue reading
