The Beef Fillet on Toast tastes minced instead of a fillet and the toast doesn’t feel crunchy, as though it was just minced beef on bread. The Chicken Cordon Bleu is an uncommon dish found elsewhere. The chicken doesn’t taste much of the cheese added though nor did it had much of ham either. The coleslaw and veggies taste normal. The Thai Grilled Chicken was rather well grilled and with the first bite without the sauce it tastes like satay. The thai sauce is mildly spicy and sweet, and taste like any other thai sauce I’ve had before. The carrots, cauliflower and corn were very plain though. It tasted like it was drenched into water without anything added. The Café Mocha was not very good as it was bitter, with only a little amount of chocolate added into the drink. The Root Beer Soda. Definitely tastes as it should be. continue reading

It is hard to find a place in Singapore that serves Chicken Corden Bleu. While I do have my own go-to place to settle my cravings for Chicken Corden Bleu, I am always on the search for more places; after all having a few more places to go for a dish surely is better than having less. After I found out that J’s Wok & Grill offera this dish, I had to check them out.The Beef Fillet on Toast was a start to the food disaster. It tasted rather fine, but it was not really the dish described in the menu. Sure enough, there was melted cheese in it, but the beef fillet was more like minced beef cooked in sauce and spread on a piece of bread that was still rather soft overall despite being slightly charred on the top. We only decided to order this side as it was a chef’s recommendation, however it just does not seem worthy of its title. The main star (for me at least) was the Chicken Corden Bleu, but it was another big dissapointment looming. It looked promising until I made the first cut and there was absolutely no cheese oozing out of the chicken breast. A Chicken Corden Bleu should not be called a Chicken Corden Bleu if it is just a deep-fried rolled chicken breast with little amounts of cheese. There was no ham in sight, and the cheese did appear in some parts of the rolled chicken breast but barely tasted there and was absent in the rest of the dish. For a Chicken Corden Bleu lover, it just severely lacked the excitement of getting that flowy and stringy cheese upon cutting the fried chicken breast, and the variation of flavours provided by the chicken, ham and cheese was definitely missing. The chicken was not very tender as well, which did not improve the impression of the dish. What improved the impression of the dish however was the tasty mushroom sauce which had lots of mushroom in it and was very fragrant, and the coleslaw was pretty cold which was nice. For more photos and the full review, please visit: http://jiaksimipng.wordpress.com/2013/06/14/js-wok-grill-blk-527-bedok-north-street-3/ continue reading

My collegues and I went to this place for lunch as we have heard raves about this place and the price was affordable although it was a restaurant setting. The exterior of the place looks captivating as it is located at a neighbourhood, to me, only accessible by car.Interior was great - westernized with a touch of Asian in it, but not an ideal place for a large group of people - even with the 6 of us, we seem to be filling up the place already. We proceeded to order: Cream of Cauliflower soup, Seafood Alio Olio, Fried Rice, Fish and Chips and Fried Bee Hoon.Cream of Cauliflower was a little bit surprising to me as the i am a fan of mushrooms and it stops there. Yet, the cauliflowers seems to go down well.Seafood Alio Olio was awesome - as a fan of pasta, i feel that the seafood was immersed into the pasta and it was flavourful. The Fried Rice and Bee Hoon were both normal dishes - being a little too salty and oily for my palatte - but with its huge portions @ an affordable price of only $1.95 each, no one could complain. Personally, i would prefer to go with the bee hoon.Lastly, the Fish and Chips was dissapointing to me as the fries were cold and the fish a little too over cooked. Furthermore - we were already super full when this dish came (as we ordered 2 portions of Alio Olio). But there was also a lunch promotion for this which was affordable - $3.50!On a whole - we enjoyed the Lunch experience as the total cost was way below what we had in mind for a restaurant service + setting. continue reading
