This savoury pastry has really won the hearts of their regular customers here, which also includes me. The pastry crust outside is really crispy, not too oily and salty. Really like the generous amount of steamed eggs with lots of thinly sliced seaweeds, mixed vegetables, minced meat, tofu and special seasoning in it. The taste is really awesome and full of the sweetness and fragrant from the ingredients. A slice of it can really satisfy your stomach and great to go along with a cup of their freshly brewed coffee here as well. continue reading

After a bad dessert time, decided to find a tea/drink place around Mandarin Gallery for High Tea Part TWO!So recalled this lifestyle store, café/ bar at Scape, "A Curious Teepee"It is a very quiet place, good for someone to have a good cup of coffee, read a book or to study. like the combine concept of a lifestyle store and cafe, allow you to sit down and rest after you shop at the store.Peppermint Tea is very refreshing for a wet afternoon (as outside is raining)Cappuccino, although it is a standard cup of cappuccino, it warms my heart especially when it is still raining outside. They do provide some simple desserts (muffins, chocolate cakes and apple crumble pie)This is a nice place for couple to laze around in an afternoon. continue reading

A Curious Teepee quaint little store, cafe/bar tucked inside Scape, away from the chaotic flea markets and haphazard skateboarders. It is a really nice and peaceful place, away from the hustle and bustle of Orchard, too bad there aren’t many seats available. And of course we had the much hyped and raved dessert, Apple Drummer with Vanilla ice cream!First off, the dish is a visual feast. (Couldn’t help but let out a WOW when it was served) It’s an pastry/cake with apple filling, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, lightly sprinkled with cinnamon powder. The pastry was crumbly, melt-in-you-mouth buttery kind that goes really well with the warm apple filling inside. Just wished the apple filling could be more generous, but every bite of apple pieces encased in pastry and ice cream is indeed heavenly =)For more photos, visit: http://eugeniegene.tumblr.com/post/10916233419/a-curious-teepee continue reading

I am a huge fan of waffles! I love it when they are crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside, yet not too starchy. These waffles are on the buttery side, you can immediately taste/smell the butter when you eat it. And its pretty crispy, like quite similar to eating biscuits hahaha! Its served with an ice cream (in the background) and you can choose whether you want chocolate or vanilla ice cream continue reading

aving heard that it would be closing its physical store at the end of this month, I headed to A Curious Teepee to check out the offerings at its café. The food menu was very limited: there was a choice between two savory items, waffles and four desserts. I had been looking forward to trying their lemon berry tart and ATCP sandwich, but it seems that they are only during brunch hours on Sunday...a pity.Papa Palheta coffee is available here for those who need a caffeine perk-up.The quiche ($9.50) took a long time to be served, despite us being the only customers around. I had no complaints about its taste though. Flaky, buttery crust- check. Creamy filling packed with bacon and leeks- check. We polished off this pastry in less than the amount of time that it took to arrive at the table. The Vegetable Tart ($8.50) was pleasingly cheesy, but I liked the meaty quiche more. Grilled peppers versus bacon, you take your pick.I couldn't go without dessert- not only because of my sweet tooth, but also because my tummy was only half-filled from the savories. The Flourless Orange Almond Cake ($8.50) was dense and moist with a refreshing citrus flavor, nice but not particularly memorable. The friend's crunchy waffles with maple syrup ($10.80) went down well with us as well. I am partial to dense and cakey waffles; those who prefer fluffy interiors will probably like A Curious Teepee's rendition of this dish more than I did. Will I miss the food at A Curious Teepee? Judging from this experience, not really. Though all the items I tried were decent, they were not impactful enough to warrant a return visit. continue reading
