Fat Cow Hotpot

It was time for lunch with the colleagues, headed for Guo Fu Steampot Restaurant, the perfect choice for a rainy afternoon as such. Besides buffet meals, this place offers personal hotpot set meals as well, ranging from SGD$13.90 to SGD$17.90 per set, depending on personal preference.Four of them had the Pork Set (SGS$13.90), served with fresh-looking, pinkish slices of pork and arranged neatly on a tray with potato slices, radish slices, fishballs, egg, and other vegetables etc. One may also choose rice or noodles as staples for the set.I had the Special Beef Set (SGD$17.90), since they are well known for having the best fatty beef in town. The beef was thinly-sliced and extremely succulent, sweet with freshness. The potato and radish chips were cut thinly as well; as were the rest of the crisp and fresh vegetables. One of them had the Spicy soup base (ma la), with numbing hotness. The degree of spiciness was high, and I choked at it at first sip, hence I suggest taking it slow when selecting this soup base.As for me, I had the Kimchi soup base. Disappointingly this soup was rather diluted; while aromatic with kimchi's flavour, it was rather mild in taste. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it.For full review and more detailed information, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2015/05/lunch-at-guo-hu-hotpot-steamboat-at.html continue reading

continue reading

At China Square Central, this is one of the popular restaurant during dinner hours. I have queued for fifteen minutes before is our turn to enter the restaurant. Here is spacious and cooling, quite comfortable. The waitress here are also quite helpful and fast in service. Enjoy their chicken soup which is sweet and tasty. Also like to eat their pork liver which is very chewy and fragrant. The dory fish are also very thick in slices and fresh. Black fungus are also soft and delicious as well. For less than $30 per person is priced reasonable. continue reading

I had tried the ala carte steamboat with sichuan spicy soup base. Total of 3 of us having our meal there paying $49.00, quite ok with the food and ambience. The spicy soup based is a bit bland for me, requested stronger and was really shiok! Prefer more spicy flower pepper to get the numb feeling Food is reasonable but not decent, love the location more and can enjoy and chit-chat with friend without feeling pressure from people waiting for next round. continue reading

Though this is my third visit to the restaurant, I have only tried their mini steamboat as I find that it looks the most appealing (based on the pictures in the menu as the cooked food looks quite oily). I like that the fact there is many choices of soup base and the price range of the soup is very affordable (from $2 to $6). For those who visit the place for the first time, I will recommend that you take the herbal soup. And if you would like to try something spicy, you can take the Kimchi soup base (the reason why I don't recommend the spicy soup base is because the soup is quite oily). The beef set which I have chosen (as shown in the picture) is very fresh and I feel that the serving is very generous. Definitely value for money. continue reading
