Pepes is truly the best Indonesian food i've ever had in Singapore. It has excellent service - the waitress patiently waited for my parents to decide on their order, change their order and then bombard her with questions about every dish. My favourite dish was the egg and tofu dish (see IMG 3). it looks somewhat like our chinese yam ring, the egg is fried till it curls up into golden brown tendrils and then drizzled in sweet sauce. Admist all the egg are chunks of tofu, that tastes great eaten with the egg or dipped in their chilli. Oh their chilli is another fantastic dish they had - we had to keep asking for more even though they gave us generous servings of it.Other dishes we ordered were the beef rendang - a rather small portion but lipsmacking nontheless. Yellow rice - don't order too much of it, focus on their dishes if not you're gonna get too full to try more. Sambal kangkong - fried with a different type of sambal chilli that we are used to and probably the most expensive kangkong i've ever eaten in my life. We ordered their version of a lime juice - $4.50 for a rather small cup, very refreshing especially with all the chilli and curry going on, but a little too pricey.Overall full marks for taste and service. continue reading
