The recent launch of Downtown Line 2 got us really excited and for one stop in particular -- Beauty World MRT Station. In its vicinity of Upper Bukit Timah Road, the streets are littered with good eats. There's that food centre on the highest level of Beauty World Centre (the one with McDonald's), Cheong Chin Nam Road where Westies flock to for supper, Lorong Kilat, Chun Tin Road and further up at Bukit Timah Plaza. Given this added convenience, there's now no excuse for you not to check out this little food haven!

Beauty World Centre

1. Hambaobao

Situated at the rooftop of Beauty World Centre, Hambaobao serves unique and incredibly delicious burgers like That Dory Fish ($5, pictured), Spiced Pulled Pork ($5) in a hawker setting. Do be prepared to wait for a little bit, as the burgers are made on the spot once you place your order. 2. Joo Mak Korean Restaurant

If you are a fan of Korean cuisine, Joo Mak Korean Restaurant is just the place. Besides Korean BBQ, try the Jajangmyeon ($12) – black bean sauce noodles and Army Stew ($30), not forgetting Crispy Fried Chicken ($30), which Joo Mak is well-known for. Crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, their fried chicken is worth going out of your way for. 3. Top 1 Home Made Noodle

There's something about handmade noodles that begets comfort. At Top 1 Home Made noodle, you can choose from seven different types of noodles but the top favourite here is definitely Mee Hoon Kway ($3.50). Have it in soup or dry where it is tossed in black and chilli sauce and accompanied by juicy meatballs and anchovies. Another dish we recommend is the Spicy Mala Ban Mian with Big Prawn ($6). 4. Jin Li Satay Bee Hoon

Heads up to all satay bee hoon lovers! Here in Beauty World Centre, you can find a good plate of satay bee hoon at an affordable price of $4. The satay sauce, lovingly made from scratch, is a good accompaniment to the soft bee hoon and cuttlefish. 5. Al Azhar Eating Restaurant

Along Cheong Chin Nam Road, you can find Al Azhar Eating Restaurant - an Indian restaurant opened for 24 hours daily and known for its supper crowd at night. 6. G7 Sinma Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge

G7 Sinma Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge serves one of the best frog porridges in Singapore - we sing praises for the gravy, which goes very well with the porridge. The price varies – $8 for 1 frog, $16 for 3 frogs, $22 for 5 frogs and porridge and $30 for 7 frogs and porridge – but we recommend getting the $22 set for 2 pax. 7. Joo Seng Teochew Porridge & Rice

For the uninitiated, Teochew porridge, otherwise known as "Teochew Mui" is basically plain porridge accompanied with various Chinese side dishes such as duck meat, which Joo Seng Teochew Porridge & Rice is known for. There are many others for you to choose from - steamed fish, stir fried broccoli, just to name a few. A vintage home store and artisan bakery cafe, Carpenter and Cook serves a wide selection of sweet treats. We highly recommend the Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Tart ($6.50), which scores brownie points for its firm crust and the right balance of chocolate and sea salt caramel. No matter how full you are, there is always room in your stomach for desserts, yes? 10. Rise & Grind Coffee Co.

Located outside Bukit Timah Plaza, Rise & Grind Coffee Co. is a cafe that prides itself in using the freshest ingredients in its cooking and serving good coffee and customers wholeheartedly. The Ocean’s Thirteen ($17), which comes in varied colours, comprises of smoked salmon, salmon roe, poached eggs on toast, asparagus and arugula drizzled with apple cider hollandaise and beetroot yoghurt on the side.
